I think the story was...Rappaport got fed bogus intel in order to drum up business for the Steelers...He got played and looked like a fool.
This ^^^^^. Now that the dust has cleared seems like this whole thing was always about money. What an ass.
I'm inclined to believe the Bills were wiling to swap the 9th for the 20th. That's a relatively low risk investment. You're still getting a #1 pick in a very top heavy draft. They just weren't willing to also give AB a raise on top of that and then when it got leaked they wanted out.
Eagles to reportedly sign Malik Jackson to three-year, $30 million deal https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-malik-jackson-to-three-year-30-million-deal/
That's a pretty great rise, for the guy. 7th round pick to highest paid lineman by the start of your second contract. He was included as part of a slight trade up in mid-round draft picks just last year. A full year of starts later... He's gotta be pretty happy.
“Here’s an interesting thing that went down in the Antonio Brown chase. The Patriots offered the Steelers a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick for Antonio Brown but the Steelers wanted no part in doing a trade with them.” – Ian Rapoport on NFL Network something tells me Jean is not gonna like this. doesnt seem like a Patriots-like move though.
Why? The Patriots picks are close to the Raiders picks. Five picks earlier. I don’t think that was good enough to change from the Raiders. Maybe the Patriots first and second would have been worth it.
Almost negligible pick difference while not improving the biggest threat in the conference or pissing off the fan base even more. If fans heard the Raiders were turned down for that Pats trade I think there would be a lot of scrutiny.
Negligible pick difference...... as long as their players aren’t scooped up. The 2nd this year isn’t the Patriots pick, it’s the Chicago pick the Pats own.
It was only 2 picks in the 2nd /3rd and 7 in the 4th/5th. But if it's Chicago's then it's 8 higher in the 2nd. Not negligible anymore but I don't know if sending him off to the Pats would have been the best value for making a run this year. They still have Ben, JuJu and Conner. Some of the internal BS is gone and they can make the playoffs and make a run, but giving the Pats AB severely decreases the odds of a deep run. Plus people wold still be pissed.
HUGE RUMOR BEING SPREAD: NFLTradeRumors.co@nfltrade_rumors Nick Foles Signing Four-Year, $88M Deal With #Jaguars http://bit.ly/2NWVXmF
Wish him luck. Eagles needed that cap space and are making moves already. Jags were a QB from the Superbowl just 2 years ago. Tons of pressure but the Jags have the talent to make the playoffs and go deep even if Foles is hot and cold. Rarely mediocre on a given day.
Doubt AB would've liked that. Don't think the Pats would've given him the raise and the Steelers sure as hell weren't going to trade him to the Patriots. They just won the Super Bowl with nobodies at WR. Although when was the last time they did win a Super Bowl with a big name WR?
