Guess he wasn't so crazy. $16.7 million a year after walking out on his team and all the ensuing drama.

Steelers get pick 66 and 131 for the best WR in the game

Beyond the fact you could be offended as Steelers fans, there’s the genuinely shi**y precedent this sets for future divas.

It’s one thing that’s impossible to appreciate as fans of the game. Guys that agree to these contracts for 5 or 6 years, then start crying about the particulars two years later.

It was either that or they release him because his value wasn't going to go up. AB killed his trade value, clearly crossed the line so they couldn't reconcile, pretty much voided an existing trade that included a top 10 pick. On top of that AB demanded the team that got him needed to give him more guaranteed money. Yeah, teams were lining out the door to get him. This was a no-win situation for them so they got what they could for him. Lot of Steelers fans are pissed they didn't get more, but I don't know what more was expected.

If the Steelers miss the playoffs this year Tomlin and Colbert need to be fired

Colbert? More like Ben and Tomlin. Brown’s behavior is what caused that trade mess but Tomlin and Ben’s leadership is somewhat to blame too.

Didn’t someone say if they can’t get a #1 pick for Brown that he’ll be a Steeler next season? Lol

If you're looking for a root cause . . . That falls squarely on the shoulders of AB and Ben. Granted, Tomlin did apparently nothing to minimize the rift but Colbert could only play the shitty cards he was dealt.

Bottom line is those two moron's actions just lost the cap space you gained from another moron sitting out last year.

    Glad AB is gone.

We suck at picking first round draft picks anyways so who cares if it is only a 3 and a 5?

The draft is largely a crap shoot.

Now let's get Bell out the door too and we can get back to being a team maybe?

Going to have to get rid of Tomlin though, still.

And as much as I was a fan of Ben, him too probably.

Our beloved team is a disgrace right now. In shambles. Starting with ART2's abysmal lack of leadership.

At 166 pounds coming off of Lisfranc surgery?

That's gotta be a hard pass in the first two rounds.

That's the bigger disappointment for me..........not the poor draft picks as compensation. The precedent this sets not just for Pitt but the rest of the league is unacceptable and Pitt should have been the one to say, "absolutely not" and make a stand. They should have played hard ball and brought him back and made him miserable before settling for only a 3rd and 5th...........especially after Rooney met with him, agreed to trade him, but demanded that he stop doing things to hurt his trade value............something he ignored the very next day. And if you get nothing in return, have another year of drama, force him into retirement prematurely and then recoup some of his base salary and/or signing bonus................so be it. We just had one year of big disappointment, what's one more to prevent a malcontent and future ones at Pitt or elsewhere from thinking they poison the well and STILL GET EVERYTHING THEY WANT?

    What a mess.

Also, I love Mike Mayock. Love the hire by the Raiders. But what is he thinking with this move? A team in a complete rebuild, bringing in a 31 year old with an obvious “me” attitude. How does this truly help where the Raiders are headed?

As good as AB has been the past half decade, Father Time is
7,000,000,000 - 0. Brown could fall off that performance cliff any minute.
The ONLY part of all of this the Raiders got right was not adding years to Brown’s contract. Well and I suppose not paying much to the Steelers.
I still wouldn’t have done it though, considering the combination of age and attitude

What are you talking about? Granted the last few years haven't been as successful, but I'd put Pitt's collective 1st round picks the last 20 years over ANY OTHER TEAM IN FOOTBALL during that time:

    99-Faneca (future HOF)
00-Burress (dominant #1 receiving talent, just never had Ben as QB until his final season)
01-Hampton (dominant cog at NT for a decade)
02-Simmons (3-year starter for us on OL at guard before going elsewhere and having career end due to injuries)
    03-Polamalu (future HOF)
04-Ben (future HOF, 3 trips to SB, 2 of them wins)
05-Heath Miller (best TE in franchise history)
06-Santonio Holmes (#1 caliber WR and Super Bowl MVP)
07-Timmons (starting ILB for nearly a decade)
08-Mendenhall (talent was there, had his moments, in the end a head case)
09-Hood (poor fit as 4-3 DT converted to 3-4 DE, but was starter two years)
    10-Pouncey (future HOF)
11-Heyward (starting DE for over a decade, a solid rock of the defense)
12-DeCastro (future HOF, arguably best guard in football right now)
13-Jarvis Jones (first true miss of this time period, just couldn't translate college game and dominance to pro game)
14-Shazier (can't say a miss as would have been All-Pro his final year before career ending injury)
15-Dupree (will be a 3-year starter this season, but certainly hasn't lived up to 1st round pick yet, likely gone after 2019)
16-Burns (the worst 1st round pick of Colbert's reign, was considered a reach at the time, and benched after year-2)
17-Watt (will be our starting OLB for a decade if he is extended from rookie contract after next season)
18-Edmunds (jury still out, but promising)

By my count that's FIVE (likely) future HOF's (25%), TEN that were simply long time quality starters or starting caliber, at times Pro Bowl caliber (almost 50%) for the team, with another two multi-year starters that will likely not be renewed after rookie deals (Hood, Dupree), two that were near total busts (Jones, Burns), and another one in which the jury is still out after only a rookie season (Edmunds).

If 3 out of every 4 picks you make in the first round is going to include one Hall of Famer and 2 long time starters that are occasionally Pro-Bowl caliber........not sure how much better you can expect from someone in the league today. Especially given that only TWICE did Pitt pick inside the top-15 during that time (Burress #8 and Ben #11). Granted, the last SIX years have NOT been as strong as the first SIX, but this is quite a body of work for the first round and precisely how you build a solid contender..........by not missing very often in the early rounds.

Great work B&G and the same guy that made that ridiculous comment will repeat it two weeks from now.

I figured somebody would play go back in time. I was talking about recent history and should have specified that - a fact to which your post pretty much agrees.

    Regarding Beach's post - righhhhht

I don’t trust their recent drafting. They are probably the only team that had first round grades onEdmunds and Rudolph.
