True but you're not going to approach that 80M number. I'm convinced Dorsey is working on a fixed cash budget given to him by Jimmy. Otherwise why not just trade a pick for Vernon and have them both?

That I would have been okay with. Other that the fact he's going to need some serious cap carryover for next year and the year after that due to contracts that will expire in the next two years. That doesn't even consider Mayfield after that.

If you're referring to the league floor it is based on cash not cap.

EDIT: Nevermind I think you mean you need space for 2nd contracts. There's really a 4 year window in that scenario because signing bonuses allow for lower impact in the first few years of deals.

And, the proven best way to improve a pass defense is . . .

Run the fucking ball and keep your pass defense on the sideline! Put the other team in a position where they have to throw the ball and you know they have to throw the ball!

A lot of variables here, but Football is football. You've gotta stop the run first. We all know what happens if you can't stop the run....

Exactly. Nearly 40% of the current roster have contracts that expire in 2020 or 2021.

That's where all your picks come in. Ideally, you are replacing the current roster with better, younger, cheaper players and half of those guys are allowed to walk. And you have a lot of picks available.

We also know what happens if you can't run the ball yourself. Running the ball and stopping the run go hand in hand.

This move does nothing for either.

Back to the financial side of this move (again, using only cap value and dead money from OTC , as we don't know the specifics of who will pick up what yet)

Moving Zeitler nets the Browns +$1.7M in cap space ($12.4M cap value, $10.7M dead cap)
Moving Vernon nets the Giants +$11.5M in cap space ($19.5M cap value, $8.0M dead cap)

That +$1.7 gain disappears when Zeitler's $12.4M cap value is replaced by Vernon's $15.5M cap value (to the Browns) resulting in a loss of cap space of $3.1M to the Browns.

Which is STILL $3.1M more than Zeitler. Ergo, $3.1M less cap space.

Who cares? I could understand the angst if we were in cap hell, but we aren't....

Olivier Vernon is a solid pass rusher, and he's good against the run....This move makes sense for both teams. NYG needed O-line help, and Cleveland needed reinforcements on defense.

You will care when the initial contracts for all these rookies we've added the past two years are all up for renewal.

    Mayfield 30 million plus
    Ward. 18 million
    Chubb 15 million
    Garret. 22 million

    Just to name a few

    Nope.....

I think you are taking the GMO a little too serious..

Don't lose sight of the forest because of the trees...

I can promise you that I won't give a f--k about our cap situation if we win a freaking Super Bowl....

I like the Trade. Dorsey doesn't do it if he doesn't believe Corbett can handle it.
Does Ogbah move to LB or does he get traded?

Why are you quoting this? I was merely pointing out as a Brown he only counts 15.5M vs. the cap, not the 19.5M he would count if he were still on the Giants roster.

    You're really over-thinking this.

Because its accurate. We will have $3.1M less cap space due to this deal and gave up an integral piece of our O-line to add a player that, IMO won't significantly improve our team.

But, apparently, I'm on an island again so I'll just shut the fuck up and keep my thoughts to myself.
