THE BROWNS MOCK DRAFT AND BOLD PREDICTION THREAD

Surprised me....If true, I'm guessing they feel Austin Corbett is ready to step in.

 

They better be damned sure, if that's the case. He was a high 2nd round draft pick, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility. I just don't like seeing head lines, "Dorsey might be looking to trade Zeitler to create more cap space"...we don't NEED more cap space we NEED reliable players. I can't disagree if Corbett looked the part and he simply couldn't play BECAUSE of Zeitler...that does make more sense.

 

In spite of the recent Casserley report, I still think the Cardinals (Kingsbury) seriously want Kyler Murray. So I'm gonna throw out my top trade destination predictions for Josh Rosen, because I think they are gonna deal him...

1. Washington; 15th overall might be a little steep, but ya never know...
2. New England: Trading the 32nd overall pick for Rosen seems fair to me...
3. New Orleans: Brees isn't getting any younger.

Zeitler, Ogbah, a 2nd and a 4th to the Giants in exchange for OBJ.

I'd take it.

 

I am not Ken Dorsey so I can't speak for him, but he *could* think of a few different things:

• not like the contract in general and willing to move it for another piece and address G separately
• Want to have "his guys" on the roster and use his current players as assets
• Think that Corbett is just as good or close enough
• Think that the scheme will allow for lesser quality of players on the OL (a la Greg Robinson)

 

When your QB is young you can get away with a crap oline, when they get in their 30’s you got to protect them better.

 

If you want them to get into their 30's, you better protect them now.

 

The Steelers had crap olines and made it to the SB. Now they have the number one rated oline and didn’t make the playoffs. Ben played in every game. Mayfield can scramble good enough to play with an oline that’s not better than average and your team will be fine. Ben at 36 can’t scramble like he used to, so he must have good blocking.

 

It's true. You've got a much stronger arm.

 

We are in agreement here, which is why my initial reaction was, no way. TD put it into my head that Corbett may be evaluated as being close in ability to Zeitler, thus an opportunity would be missed to use him by keeping Zeitler...same could be true of Bitonio, if we are keeping all things equal. If you value all 3 the same, and Corbett really is universal in fit on either side, then Zeitler makes the most sense because he is being paid the most money. If Zeitler is viewed as a much higher player, then Bitonio could in reality become expendable if Corbett looks better from the left side than the right side. These are all things we are not privy to being on the outside of practices. We simply don't know. I am just putting my trust in Dorsey that they have high expectations of Corbett, if they are willing to move on from Zeitler. IF their evaluations are correct, then it would be foolish not to replace Zeitler with Corbett...the only way this is a bad deal is if Corbett is not ready to play in the NFL and the offense suffers.

#17 - T.J. Hockenson, TE

Today's discussion got me thinking... if there's not a consensus #1 wide receiver but the Browns are looking to add weapons to the offense, and they're challenging David Njoku and releasing Darren Fells and completely ignoring Seth Devalve... why not use the draft to add a player at the position? Not the biggest area of need for sure, but Hockenson's undeniably a Top 10 talent in this class. An all-around TE to pair with Njoku, give Mayfield a big target (6'5" 251), and take pressure off the wide receiver group.

#49 - Mack Wilson, LB

There was already a need a linebacker before Collins' departure and without a big-name free agency signing here, this has to be addressed at either #17 or #49. Wilson slipped in the mock (rated as #44 overall player) and was a no-brainer. He's got the lateral speed to cover and the size to hold up in the run game. Needs more experience, but could be a starter by mid-season for the team.

#80 - Dre'Mont Jones, DT

Larry Ogunjobi breathes a sign of relief. Jones is a penetrating 3-technique DT who can take some pressure off Larry being "the guy" and let him play the 1-tech where he's top-notch. Jones has work to do in the run defense, but when drafting a penetrating tackle (especially in the third round), we could do much worse.

#95 - Riley Ridley, WR

Another player I didn't expect to be there when the pick came back around. With the addition of Hockenson to Njoku, Landry, Higgins, and Callaway, the Browns have plenty of guys who can go up and get it. They need to add more guys who can create separation and run those clean routes and Ridley gives them that. Not the biggest or fastest, but refined and his numbers in college were held back by the system.

#119 - Isaiah Johnson, CB

Long cornerback with an incredible athletic profile. Another position of need but we can't fill all the holes with starters immediately and he will need to develop technique behind Terrance Mitchell. Not a tackler - probably could teach Ward how to avoid contact.



#132 - Ben Banogu, EDGE

Undersized for a 4-3 DE by traditional standards, but another plus-athlete with a lot of upside.



#144 - Evan Worthington, FS

Some character red flags holding him back but that's also never stopped John Dorsey. Looking to add a solid back-up to a position that's seen both starters miss time over the past two seasons with injury.

#170 - Tyree St. Louis, LT

Swing tackle.

#189 - Jarrett Stidham, QB

Accurate, developmental QB prospect.

#221 - Hjalte Froholdt, IOL

Swing interior lineman.
