Looking forward to 2019, Browns Free Agency/Trades

This is great news, and the Browns are sure making it appear as if they are very content with this offensive line, as it stands.... So that definitely makes me think an OT of the future could be in play for us on day 1 of the draft.

I don't think I could be any more confused by this post...or, do you mean signing Robinson indicates a smoke screen to their intentions?

Personally, I think they liked what they saw, but the thoughts of film from previous teams are still dancing in their heads. I think Robinson's crew wanted a long term deal, the Browns had different ideas on compensation and they came to a mutual, prove it agreement. I don't think they are targeting a OT in the first 3 rounds. Now, if one falls that they like, I could see them taking one in the 2nd or 3rd, but I absolutely believe this eliminates OT from the first round now. Robinson is 25 years old, if he continues to develop, and Mayfield has a lot to do with that, then we have our LT of the future already. I think they are looking for future pieces in the first round. I don't see a single OT in this draft with as much potential as Robinson had entering his draft. It's obvious he hasn't lived up to that potential, but we might have seen signs of it last year. If they continue to develop that, we don't need another LT. We have a developmental guy in Desmond Harrison, as @SAS reminded me yesterday.

I don't know, this draft right now is about as open as I have seen one in decades. Free agency will give us some clues, but even then, I don't think Dorsey will pigeon hole himself into anything. I think the draft will be very fluid. Player he likes drops slightly, he moves up, his top 10 gone at #17, he could move back... I would LOVE to see his draft board!!!

edit: Credit @beachbum for saying it first on here that he thought Robinson was the more sure prove it deal candidate, when I was talking about Perriman earlier.

What was so confusing Irish? John Dorsey is the master of deception. That's all. The Browns put out that tweet. You've heard of smoke and mirrors, right? I'm just sayin, it could be for a reason. It seems to imply to me that all couldn't be better on the O-line front. We can check that off. Know way will we go o-line in the first......And then boom, Yodny Cujuste goes at pick #17 to the Cleveland Browns. (just a name I picked. I don't wanna debate OT's. I do like him though)...It wouldn't be the biggest shock.

The signing of Robinson is great, but I won't be shocked if we still wound up taking an OT early...That's a premium position. What if an OT prospect that Dorsey sees as top 5 in the draft slips to #17? You think he'd hesitate?

No, at first I wasn't sure, I thought maybe you misspoke. Then I realized, maybe you were setting up the smoke screen scenario, but I wasn't sure.

I agree OT is a premium position and I won't be shocked with anything Dorsey does.

My only personal opinion is that there isn't a premium OT in this draft. Again, that's my opinion obviously, but someone will absolutely take a couple of these guys at least in the first round. For my grading, I hope it isn't us. I can't say too much about them, because I have only looked at the top names, and only watched one game of each of them. It's hard to be adamant about a group of players when that's all the research put into it.

Again, my thoughts are they are in the mindset to continue developing Robinson with the thought they are ready to invest in him as our immediate future if he continues to grow from that second half of 2018. After all, he was the 2nd overall pick just 5 years ago and he does have 56 career starts, even if the ones prior to Cleveland were less than stellar. What he did in Cleveland is promising.

You bring up a good topic though of smoke screens...I think we really have no idea what Dorsey is thinking right now...and it will probably get more hazy than clear in the coming weeks!!

Well I'm hoping for a blockbuster, or at least a "big" signing from the Browns, to maybe clear the picture a little. Maybe more than one. That doesn't automatically mean household names. I just want good young football players that are hungry to win and be a part of it all. This is going to be an epic season in Browns football, and I think the players around the league can sense that. This won't be typical offseason for us. We have been used to overpaying for bums and settling for scraps around here for too damn long. It's not gonna be that way anymore...

Saw on twitter (don't recall from what source) that Browns were offering multi year deal, but Robinson turned it down to parlay this one yr deal into a massive contract.

We haven't discussed our in house targets very much. Higgins and Boddy-Calhoun are RFA's. Perriman is a UFA. Do we tender the RFA's and/or re-sign any UFA's?

It has been reported that Drew Rosenhaus has already stated their intentions are to test free agency with Perriman. It is a good bet that he will be somewhere else in 2019. Unless the player is adamant and takes it out of Rosenhaus' hands, he maximizes profit and that is where his clients go. Breshad probably showed just enough to do just that, maximize his value beyond where Dorsey feels his value is.

Higgins and Boddy-Calhoun, I would be SHOCKED if they didn't each get a 2nd roundRFA tender on March 13th, worth $3.1M each. All restricted free agents will be tendered offers on March 13th before 4:00PM. I do not believe, Trevon Coley will get a tender offer, but I could be wrong.

Scratch Dee Ford off your lust lists. The Chiefs franchise tagged him.

Yeah, that sucks...Not surprising. He's a great edge rusher. They weren't letting go of him.

MKC reporting that Boddy-Calhoun will hit free agency. That need at CB/S just got a lot more glaring.

    Also from MKC...

I accept it if it happens - the team hasn't found a way to use him appropriately in four seasons, has a stud in Nick Chubb, and a rehab project who, if he stays out of trouble, was already a Top 5 dude at the position.

Would not be at all surprised to see him move on draft night to jockey around the board.

I'm sure Dorsey's already got the paperwork drawn up.

Browns won’t tender RFA Briean Boddy-Calhoun

The Browns want to keep wide receiver Rashard Higgins, but they’re willing to let the market have a chance at defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns will not tender Boddy-Calhoun as a restricted free agent.

The 26-year-old Boddy-Calhoun has played safety and slot corner for the Browns, and has started 21 games the last three seasons.

It’s unclear which level of tender they want to put on Higgins, who became one of quarterback Baker Mayfield‘s favorite targets last year.

Higgins caught 39 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns last year, a 14.7 yards per catch average.

The first-round tender for RFAs is $4.407 million and the second-round tender is $3.095 million, though Higgins has said he’s open to a long-term deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happened before the draft.

I forgot who had the report (Daryl Ruiter, maybe?) but evidently Boddy-Calhoun got into Gregg Williams' dog house last season and the only reason he ended up seeing so much time was due to injuries.

IMHO, when he did play - he acquitted himself fairly well. I would have thought a "position flexible" player such as him would be thought of more highly. I would have tendered him to see if he could garner a draft pick.
