Randy Gregory suspended indefinitely for substance abuse policy violation https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/02/26/randy-gregory-suspended-indefinitely-for-substance-abuse-violation/ Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is back on the suspended list. Per multiple reports, the NFL has suspended Gregory indefinitely for violating the league’s substance abuse policy as well as the conditions of his reinstatement from a previous suspension. There was word of a violation last September, but Gregory recorded six sacks in 14 regular season games and saw action in both playoff games for the Cowboys last season. Gregory was reinstated last summer after serving a one-year suspension that kept him off the field for the entire 2017 season. He was also suspended for a total of 14 games during the 2016 season for other violations of the same policy. The team was already expected to do what it takes to hold onto defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, but losing Gregory and the expected departure of David Irving ups the need to hold onto Lawrence all the more in Dallas.
Unbelievable... what a waste of a golden opportunity. Im sure Lawrence is going to cash in as a FA, a highly ranked FA.
49ers use franchise tag on Robbie Gould... No team used the franchise tag during the first week of the two-week window to do so, but that changed on Tuesday. The 49ers confirmed reports that they have placed their franchise tag on kicker Robbie Gould. The cap figure is expected to be around $5 million, although the Niners and Gould would have until July 15 to work on a multi-year deal. Gould has mused about a possible return to Chicago in free agency, but the expectation has been that the 49ers would use the tag to hold onto the veteran’s rights if they couldn’t agree on a contract. They could still trade Gould if he signs the tag, although there’s no word suggesting that’s in their plans. Their interest in retaining Gould is easy to understand. He’s made 72-of-75 field goals since joining the 49ers in 2017 and the team has plenty of cap space to spend on other areas even with a tag in place. _______________ _________________________________ Too baddd for the Bears, but the 49ers see the value.
Jason Witten quits ESPN, returns to Cowboys https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/02/28/jason-witten-quits-espn-returns-to-cowboys/ AWESOME!
I really like Witten. He's a class guy but he's 36 with lots of miles. I hope has a nice swan song but I don't know if he has it in him.
I'm not exactly expecting a return to Pro Bowl form. Hell, just having him around to mentor the young TEs Dallas has will be worth it.

It's taking Gid awhile to cope with the epic failure of his 14-2 prediction for the Steelers and a successful "Stairway to 7" campaign.
