Some Great One stats that are astounding-

Gretzky is the fastest player to 1000 points doing it in 424 games.
He is also the 2nd fastest player getting his next 1000 in 433 games.

He is the NHLs all time leader in points just on assists alone. Doesn’t need them but he’s also the career leader in goals too.

Only NHLer with a 200 point season. He had 4 of them.

Scored 378 goals in his last season of pee wee playing up a level. 378 goals.

There was only one Gretzky, that's for sure. No way anyone will ever come close to those numbers with the size and equipment of the goalie. Also, the conservative systems, as well as much higher quality D-men these days.

They say Bobby Hull had a slap shot that was clocked at over 118 mph. I don't know if I believe that, the closest I've seen was a little over 100, nobody has even come close to 110.

    He was the 'Great One'

Wasn't there a blueliner for the Blues that had 100 mph shot? Al McKinnis or something like that.

MacInnis, Chara, Bufglyien, Iafrate, maybe Pronger, all over 100, no more than 104. I mean, 118 mph makes it sound like he had superpowers, geez. It had to be the wonky 60s technology that was off, not to take anything away from him.

Shea Weber had one at 108 mph.

108.5 for Weber and 118.3 for Hull (1960s) with a wooden stick.

ya i dont buy that Bobby Hull slapper story either. i think it was physically impossible and more likely that the old school radar gun was wrong, mishandles, or lied about. didnt Hull and Makita essentially just start using curved sticks too?

The same radar gun measured a J.Beliveau wrist shot at 105 mph. This was a crew from popular mechanics. A typical radar gun will begin to record the speed after 15 feet, which is the beginning of its deceleration.
In the 60s they started to record the shot at the point it left the stick, or so they say.

We used to have a skills competition when I coached. One of the dads was a cop and he’d sit behind the net with a radar gun. That was a lot of fun.

yeah i posted some of these on the trivia thread. and so many people think Mario was better. hahaha.

he's another gretzky stat. in 4 of his seasons, if you take away his goals per season, he still wins the Art Ross Trophy !

the sticks now have so much whip in them, im shocked they can generate high speeds. on a wrist shot i would agree, but not a slap shot.
