How many times was Emmit or Walter or Warrick or Colin arrested for a similar incident? Getting an NFL contract is like winning the lottery, but it is conditional (supposedly ~ see NFL track record). Why would you throw it away? If you're too stupid to handle it, nobody can help you. There's an old Korean proverb that goes something like this: You can place the greatest opportunity in the hands of a man, but if he is too stupid to realize what it is or could be, he will throw it away. Basically, a chunk of gold will appear to be a mere rock to a stupid person.
Yeah, we really need to get off the Kaepernick kick. There is only one reason why he isn't playing, his ego/money. He opted out of a GREAT deal with the 49ers for his skill set. As soon as teams realized he wasn't willing to play for $15M, they moved on. When he did work out for teams, after being away for months, he obviously didn't show them what they wanted to see. He is a GREAT athlete, but in reality, he isn't the best QB to grace the NFL. He was better at running than throwing. His claim to fame is that he was careful with the ball, threw very few INTs...He is basically a 3" taller Tyrod Taylor. How much is Tyrod worth in this league? He doesn't care about football, he cares about money and thinks his name is a draw. The new league came to him and him and he said if you pay me $20M, I'll play... Now, back to the point..I agree 1000%, Colin is a much better human being than the shitbags we are discussing.
And well done to you too for that post, ug. I haven't seen a backtrack that impressive since MJ's first moonwalk. You really should be in politics. You most certainly did compare. Here are your words... Your line here, Irish, just made me remember when Chuck Finley was pitching for the Tribe and was married to his whackadoodle bi-polar wife Tawny Kitaen. The one night she just went off on him and assaulted him. The cops asked why he didn't defend himself and he said she was 5'7" and he was a 6'6" pro athlete and that if he lifted a finger against her, he was going to be the one going to jail and not her. The relevance is the fact that these guys are assaulting women, because the women are getting up and their face and hitting and kicking, etc., and these guys just can't "take the crap". I understand if these women are coming at you with a bat, a gun...whatever. But for crying out loud these guys are getting hit harder than this daily doing their job in the NFL. Thats you leading on from a story in one paragraph with more general statement in a second paragraph where you even qualify what you're about to say by saying "the relevance", haha! The only way it could've been more obvious was if you'd just come out and said "this is my comparison". As for condoning, you strongly implied that in the multiple ways i highlighted. You suggested that without a weapon a woman could cause little physical harm to a man which is complete crap, in fact. What you actually did was commit a type of benevolent sexism in trivializing the physical harm a woman can cause a man by stating she needs a weapon to be dangerous and also using his job as a reason why its ok to do this. Not that you're alone ug. The growing list of guys on this site committing various forms of benevolent sexism in relation to discussing Hunt, is very funny to me. Whether its your nonsense comments, or irishdawg saying women should be allowed to conduct any kind of provocation & verbal/physical abuse to another person without any recourse, or the deranged ravens fan who even stated its better that a man be murdered than a woman assaulted! All of that is various forms of benevolent sexism. In your archaic ways you think you're being in some way chivalrous, but in fact when you place a woman on a pedestal or suggest she needs to be wrapped in cotton wool, or don't hold her to account of socially unacceptable behaviour purely because she's a woman... what you're actually doing is robbing her of her power by suggesting she needs special treatment. That is sexism. Women don't need your condescending protections, its a new age. Don't worry you'll catch on. In the meantime why don't some of you dinosaurs go do some research. Maybe start with Fiske and her work on Ambivalent Sexism. Its been around for 20years now so you've really no excuse. If that sounds like too much work just Google benevolent sexism and start the process or self-educating your caveman asses. Cheers
Depends on the woman...you must be a very little man No one said anything about protecting the women involved, just the refusal to engage in a hostile environment. Let's see, a "typical" woman, not Ronda Rousey vs. a professional athlete that plays in the most violent team sport on earth. I think you need to give a little leeway here. Which woman in any of the cases discussed was a professional athlete herself or of abnormal stature? Personally, I am of "normal" stature for a male, but I have never felt threatened by a woman in my entire 48 years of life. Even in some precarious drunken situations at a younger age. I've been hit twice by two different women, both times for ignoring them and it just pissed them off more when I laughed. Not sure where your thought process is coming from, but the atypical woman is NOT going to do any damage to a NFL athlete(even a punter) without a weapon. The only reason I am even drawing into this conversation with you is because you continually troll me by using my name. I am not being sexist in any way, I've said it's ridiculous if they were to engage in physical contact with a man that provokes through verbal abuse. Now, the only thing I have ever said is, defending yourself is expected, whether it's a woman or a man. Show me a situation where the man was in actual danger and I will agree with you in THAT situation. Kareem Hunt wasn't in danger, he was locked inside his apartment and the girl was out in the hallway being an ass. Call the cops, call security and move on with your life. You're a dipshit if you think punching/shoving/kicking a woman is OK if she calls you a name, even if it's the worst name of all of names. I personally have never used the word, nor would I in any situation. But, no matter who walked up to me and started berating me with names of any kind, I wouldn't think to myself, "I think it's a good idea to push this human to the ground and once on the ground and unable to defend themselves continue to kick them." I've been in fights in my youth, every single one of them was defending myself or friends from aggressors. Every single one of them ended once the situation was under control. I've also stopped 10 times as many fights involving friends before they ever began by making them walk away from controllable situations. It's doable and the proper way to do things. You are an idiot, that much is obvious. Not wanting to cause physical harm is not sexism. The woman involved is taking away her independence, not the man who decides not to hit her. Try understanding your argument before bellowing out sentences, so you won't look like a fool. There, I gave my opinion on the subject, don't expect any other communication from me to you.
It's a new day and I see that Everton qualifies for yet another new entry to Dumbass of the Day. You're not a Bears fan living in Florida by any chance, are you?
No he's saying you're sexist if you don't clock a woman that tries to hit you and/or sends a racial slur your way. In these cases she's "asking for it" and if you don't physically take her out, you are a sexist...this is according to EvertonBears
I truly don't disagree with you TopDawg but be honest... If Pittsburgh just signed him you would be in full bash mode.
As to the signing of Hunt I don't have much to add to opinions already expressed. From a team football standpoint I can see the value of a talent like Hunt. I don't see Johnson as expendable at this point as I think he has been under utilized at this point anyway. As to the reason why he's available cheap on an ethical level. I am not totally in support of the move, but do believe that if a man truly wants to change his behaviors it is possible. From personal experience, one of my best friends has made such a change in his life and is now doing very well for himself. I only hope that he does make the necessary changes to be successful. Hopefully Dorsey and the Browns organization have mechanisms in place to assist him.
This is such a slippery slope but I watched the video and I didn't see Kareem "beating a woman". Really didn't even set him "strike her". Heck, I didn't even consider it a kick. I've seen a toddler kick with more velocity than whatever that was. Not that any of that is okay, certainly there was a better way to handle it but often in these situations we tend to use words that don't really describe what happened because one person was a woman and the other was a man. Ray Rice "struck" and "beat a woman". Kareem didn't.
I can agree with this... In my opinion it doesn't make it any better. He definitely shoved her, caused her to run into the wall and the one thing I don't agree with, he did kick her. Maybe it wasn't ferocious, but she was obviously stunned slumping over and kicking at her sent her back to the ground, which could have caused more injuries. There was no need to enter the hallway in the first place. You have a phone to contact police/security, use it. It's that simple.
I don't like the Steelers, but that's just not true at all. I'm always the guy fighting for these "sketchy" characters to receive a second chance... I would have respected the move, same as when Cincy took a chance on Joe Mixon. Same as when we took a chance on Caleb Brantley. Same as when a team took a chance on Legarrett Blount, and Randy Gregory, and Tyreek Hill, and so on and so on...Pro sports is what it is. It's a GM's job to win, and put the best team he can on the football field. Sometimes these "red flag" guys will burn ya, and sometimes they turn it around, but I understand and respect the GM's that have the balls to take the chance... So anyway, no I most certainly would not have been bashing the Steelers for signing Hunt. I would have been jealous. It was always my contention that the real reason Ray Rice didn't get another opportunity, was because his production was falling off the charts. He simply wasn't worth the backlash....If it had been a year or two earlier, when he was a Pro-Bowl fixture, there's not a doubt in my mind that some GM would have offered Ray an opportunity at redemption...
Bum, thank you for having the guts to call a spade a shovel. I would agree that the Ray Rice and Kareem Hunt incidents are very different in degree. That said both are wrong, and certainly Hunt had an easy out, by simply calling security, and not "engaging". He failed to make that choice, and thus involved the local authorities, then the NFL. It's the justice system that needs to subscribe punishment, not the NFL, if a crime was committed. I don't really know that part of the story: why they did/didn't charge or lock him up. I also don't know if his representation reached a settlement with the young lady involved. Your comparison goes back to what I wrote before: there are too many variables in cases of confrontation, to use a universal solution. Once again I believe the NFL's policy is pretty good: 1 time = suspension, repeat = banned for life. It allows the opportunity to make amends, grow and become a better person, but makes it clear there cannot be another incident.
Ok. Ok. He kicked her ass. Better? Does this change the fact that he’s a piece of shit. Nope? Carry on.
@firehalo , Serious question here. In your opinion, which is worse . . . Pushing and then kicking a woman - or - raping a woman?
Sorry Lym, it doesn't sound serious...It sounds condescending. We are talking about the difference between being allowed to live freely in society and playing football in the NFL. In my opinion the line moves slightly.
Way ahead of this, Captain Obvious... Ben Roethlisberger is a piece of shit. Is that the answer you’re looking for? You should know who the fuck you’re talking to with that bullshit. Really?!?!? Who do you think I am, some simpleton Bears fan?
