'Prankster' Cements Head in Microwave
Firefighters were 'seriously unimpressed'
(NEWSER) – There's stupid, there's extremely stupid, and then there's "cementing your head inside a microwave" stupid. Firefighters in Wolverhampton, England, say they were "seriously unimpressed" after five of them had to spend an hour dealing with a case of the latter Thursday, the BBC reports.
The West Midlands Fire Service says a 22-year-old man it describes as a "YouTube prankster" and his friends poured several bags of a fast-hardening product into an unplugged microwave oven they were using as a mold around the man's head, which was protected by a plastic bag. Firefighters say that by the time they were called, the man's friends had been trying to free him for 90 minutes and had given him an air tube to help him breathe.


Firefighters had to call a technical rescue team for help freeing the man, which involved taking apart the microwave and very carefully removing the cement, using a screwdriver. "As funny as this sounds, this young man could quite easily have suffocated or have been seriously injured," says Watch Commander Shaun Dakin, per the Telegraph. "All of the group involved were very apologetic, but this was clearly a call-out which might have prevented us from helping someone else in genuine, accidental need." Dawn Moon has spent the last decade dreaming of opening her own salon after getting licensed as a nail technician. But just as her dream is starting to come true, Moon’s storefront in Sandusky, Ohio is causing some controversy because of its suggestive name — Hand Jobs Nails & Spa.

“This is an idea I’ve had for 10 years!” Moon tells Yahoo Lifestyle of the name of her salon. “It’s a play on words, but really is exactly what we do as nail techs…HANDS!”

Although Moon believes that the name of the salon is rather logical, others have had mixed opinions, which they’ve shared on social media.

“What the hell are people thinking,” one person wrote, while another said, “Take it down I cannot believe Perkins allowed you to use that name. Offensive!”

All of the attention, however, is simply being viewed as free advertising by the owner and the many people who support her.

“The talk about the sign started almost immediately! Within 24 hours we had massive social media attention,” she says. “Honestly, we have had way more positive feedback and a ton of support, and very few who don’t love it.”

The reaction from those who are fans of the idea include a number of other local businesses who have openly shared their support for Moon in response to a Facebook post asking if people are offended. Still, the town has yet to approve the salon’s signage because of Moon’s failure to submit a request for a sign permit. Until she does, the town can’t review or comment on the proposed name.

When asked if Moon has a plan B if it’s rejected, she says, “Of course, although we aren’t speaking on that at the moment.”

In the meantime, Moon is still fulfilling requests for merchandise, after a few people have suggested making shirts with the salon’s name on them.

“We are in the process of making the design now,” she says.

Pretty funny.... From a business standpoint, her idea is brilliant...Even if they do make her take the sign down, nobody is gonna forget about "Hand Jobs" when they need the nails done...

 

I agree!! Not sure this one deserves a dumbass of the day award, but it sure is fun reading about it...Though she was pretty dumb to put up a sign, while not submitting her sign permit...If she doesn't know about permits, she might very well not be much of a business woman and could be out of business sooner than later.

 

Oh, she knows about the permit requirement. She's banking on the city to make her take it down until she files her permit as that action would make the news as well.

 

There's also a tattoo parlor in Sandusky named "Needle Dicks".
