I know our board isn't as active as it used to be(damn you all), but still, the HC of the Chicago Bears wins Coach of the Year and the thread gets 2 measly replies??! Thats pathetic. Its below pathetic. Its so bad we should be put up against a wall and shot. Or at least subjected to a word link game by babyface-supermod. Wait...

Anyway, it would be pretty bad at the best of times, but considering what we as fans have been through the last 5-6 years, its pretty incredible. I mean Trestman and Fox were trainwrecks! They didn't just lead us to the gates of hell, they gave us the full guided tour and out the devils asshole at the other end. We should all have a Jobu style Nagy shrine that we pray to every night after this season!

So yeah, i guess we must be ungrateful SOB's, me as much as anyone cos i did my full share of bitching about Nagy throughout the season. But the question is why? Why the total lack of love?

Win-loss record that obliterated anything any of us could have imagined(except blang cos thats his mutant power)? Check. Infectious spirit and positivity that has made it an amazing locker room and one of the most likable Bears teams in decades? Check. Press conferences that you can actually stand to listen to cos he speaks so well and is unusually candid and open? Check. Great relationship with his young QB that you can just see is working? Check.

I mean hell, the bald motherfucker rocked a visor look in a night game in December! In Chicago!!

    What gives?

It's the visor without a doubt.
Remember I got fired as his dog walker for shredding his visors and blaming the dog. In hindsight I should of trained the dog to shred them himself.

I think too many of us are just pissed that such promise ended with a double doink and we're just trying to distance ourselves from the reality of the situation.
While we all may be hypercritical of this team over the years, I can't recall a year when we were less critical of this team than this year.
While we may have been less critical of this team this year how many on here said it would come down to Parkey missing a field goal in a crucial moment?
This year could of should of been the year but it wasn't. Next year will be a tougher schedule and they will have to earn that bitch. The team will be battle tested and probably less of a record, but hopefully stronger for it. I still believe this is the year. Go Bears!

I have my complaints about the guy but there's also a lot to like about him.

For me the playcalling and game management is a concern...but I'm very excited and curious to see how it grows and he learns from mistakes. The gadget stuff was infuriating at times this season.

But the team loves Nagy....and I love that.

There are all kinds of fans...homers, optimists, pessimists, and so on. I think the majority of the Bears fans that frequent here are cautious optimists that have a high level of football knowledge and therefore are grounded in that optimism. And the result is it takes a lot more to make them happy.

I'll take that over what you see out of some of the other fanbases here. I mean no offense to any Browns fan that wanders over here and reads this....but go to their board and read the stuff they write. They already have Baker Mayfield penciled in as a Hall of Famer....and one guy said the other day that Nick Chubb is the best running back in the league. And the Browns are winning multiple Superbowls over the next decade.

There are certainly lots of Bears fans out there just like that.....but I'm glad none of them frequent this board.

I think (not that even one person will read this or care LOL) that there was a lot being said at the beginning of the season for us fans to not expect to much for this growing team. We were blindsided by how outstanding so many of the games were and then SNAP we lost total and complete hope due to a double doink. So I say we go back to where we were mentally last August and prepare for another growing season that might just knock our socks off.

The fact that Offense/Playcalling was a legit cause for concern is in the lead tells you all you need to know. This group as a whole is a "yea but" group. Nagy wins Coach of the year! Yea but he is an offensive coach and that side of the ball needs a lot of work. There is nothing wrong with that. Like Bww said it beats most of the other crowds out there.

That being said bad news or concerns are easier to talk about and disagree on. When the Bears have a slew of holes to fill that is a problem. How to fill those holes creates debate and that spurs longer threads.

Example. Massie gets an extension. Bam! Conversation gets going. He is not a popular player and there is concern Pace fucked up again. When the details of the deal come out and we see how great of a contract it is crickets.

I have concerns, because he's a new coach and there have definitely been growing pains. As to why there wasn't more open jubilation? I think that's a combination of how abruptly the season ended, and the fact that we've had to endure so much garbage that getting excited again is tough. I think we'll start to see people come out of their shells if the team can keep up success, and Nagy / Pace prove that they got more than lucky for a year. That would certainly be a welcome development.

The optimism has definitely returned, though. That's something that I think has been missing. We're seeing the sun crest over the mountains, again - I think next season is when we'll start enjoying the sunlight.

You're right, though - we should appreciate this season for what it was. I think we should all look back on it fondly, in totality. It was a fun one, despite the moments of frustration. Watching that defense? Well, fuck, that made me feel like a real Bears fan, again.

Plus I would just like to add.....CoY....isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Jason Garrett won just a couple years ago. Anyone want that guy as the HC of their team?

Lovie Smith and Dick Jauron both won the award.

I think it's awesome he won....but I'm not gonna blow him for it.

  11. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

I would agree with that. It's a celebration of one year, usually given to the coach who had the most surprisingly good year. That doesn't necessarily translate to future seasons. But I hear Ev, wanting to celebrate the season we did have, because fuck - when was the last time we had that?

  12. blang84 Legend Bears

I don't really care much for post-season awards. The only award I want to win is the Lombardi trophy. That said, Nagy deserves an enormous amount of credit for the turnaround and he is every bit deserving of that award.

I'm salty not only because of how the season ended but also because of my certainty that we would have won the Super Bowl THIS YEAR had we had a competent kicker. The Bears have only strung together consecutive playoff appearances once in the 26 years since Ditka so making the playoffs next year is not a given. We need Trubs to take the next step. We need the defense to be as good. We need a kicker. We need to have good luck again with injuries. As enjoyable as the regular season was, the taste in my mouth is bad and won't change unless we are able to build on this next year.

Offense/Playcalling has 3 votes lol. Hardly a landslide rob.

The argument/concerns about Nagy running the Offense isn't people just being negative nancys, there is justification to it. The choice of personnel groupings ie Mizzell getting carries the first series, 3rd snap of a game. Choosing to call needlessly elaborate plays at bad times. And some of the numbers. The Bears ranked 21st in ypg last season which reflects the many many times they failed to move the ball and the Defense had to win games.

Also, as one of the probable ringleaders in this supposed "yeah but" group id like to reiterate that i started this thread heh. You should be happy with this thread btw, what does a guy have to post to get a like from you anyway lol.

Just for the record i had planned to reply to that post of yours over there, but ive not been posting much due to work and wanted to start this thread instead. I think you're being a little unfair tho. Massie was discussed by many posters. The details of his contract were very delayed from coming out for some reason which was weird. Thats out of our hands here, i think people just moved on.

But i do want to agree with you in a way. I mean i don't consider it a great contract, the overall money is too high and the guaranteed money is def too high for my liking. But it is a very well structured contract. Stein did a great job once again, and quite timely since it wasn't long after bww was talking about this.

For my part i could've voted a few different ways on this. I went with Offense/Playcalling, but could've voted the crappy way the season ended. And i did genuinely think there was a better COY candidate.

Personally i think Anthony Lynn deserved to win the award. The Chargers record was the same, but came in a tougher division with the Chiefs. They also won a road playoff game, taking them further than the Bears and did all that suffering more injuries and with a tougher schedule than the Bears.

I guess Nagy making the turnaround in 1 year as opposed to Lynn's 2 years made a difference. Plus the division crown. And of course Club Dub....

    Can we add another option?

Click a box that it sucked and not have to read through one of Everton’s 10,000 word posts?

    Kidding brother...

What sucked the most is we could have been in the fucking Super Bowl. If not for the fuck face kicker that I won’t name any more.

We could have hung with, or beat, any of these teams in an even fight.

Next year boys, (and girl)... love you guys!

Why have we been languid? Because it was temporarily bitter how it ended. We know, fuck you Barfey. But why do I say 'temporarily bitter?' Because while Barfey stole the show, Mitch's fantastic 2nd half of that game gets lost. We have a young quarterback that's putting it together nicely, albeit with growing pains--going into his 2nd year of this new offense. I'm thrilled about that.

I'm pretty content with the bears. I agree with those who said the bears, had they beat philly could have easily been in the NFC Championship game. And that 14 points beats the Patriots, I'll leave the 'what ifs' otherwise to Chicitysports. We're in a sweet spot because for once, we're not panicking about what Ryan Pace isn't doing. His plan/vision seem to be working, for now.

I'm content because this team isn't facing something paramount this offseason. Arguably the biggest decision ahead is who do you keep, Amos or Callahan?

'First world problems' for the kings of the north. The bears are sitting pretty, and while no--they aren't perfect--teams would kill to be in their position.

Bill Barnwell did a '5 moves every team should make this off-season,' and espen published it. #1 priority? Competition for Barfey. That's not.......that's just not a problem. That's not something that alarms me, nor should it any of you. #2? Picking between Amos/Callahan, as I mentioned above. #3? No big splash in FA. Darn. We only just got Khalil Mack last August and extended him as he's 27......

#4? Cut Dion Simms. Does anybody here disagree with that? And #5? Find Jordan Howard's 2020 replacement. Good new is, its not Mizzel, or Cunningham. So let's let Pace do his thing, probably through the draft.

Its also curious to see what Detroit, GB, and Minny also have to do, because that's 3/8 of the schedule right there.

Regarding the poll, I voted trolls. Because there are a few nuthuggers that just kill any meaningful/objective discussion with garbage or useless threads with topics I don't give a shit about. I find as I get older, when it comes to sports, my interest wanes because now politics are trying to intersect, leagues and commissioners and owners are blatantly trying to maximize and privatize profits while socializing all costs/stick it to the fans.

I could go on about the moral dilemma upcoming for the Cubs with this new Marquee channel with Sinclair, a toxic politically partisan group. Because that's what I want to see in the commercial in the bottom of a 3rd inning, why liberals are the enemy......so Pat and Ron are my guys till they get marginalized by Ricketts when their radio contract is up in 2024.

I just don't have the effort for the caliber of trolls, especially the lacking ones here. The old CBS days were great, because the Jprins, Scrub, and Handicappers of the world at least made you chuckle. The clowns would play the part and owned it. There's almost a talented beauty to it. I'd be fine with that, but I don't have the desire to argue with the new age level of idiot who just keeps posting the same shit.

Example? The shitty 'victory lap/fake sportsmanship' thread by the LA Philly fan, the random Steeler fans, and the Pats guy pontificating instead of being objective. Nothing was contextually objective, because it was a straight 'fuck you' thread. There are threads right now I won't even click on as they're not bears related. It just doesn't make me want to post/contribute. It's become the 'Skip Bayless' era of who can be the loudest, dumbest, and most obscene, and most importantly--talks last (because the loudest, last point is what matters now, not fact or credible, tangible evidence--because who needs facts when you can pull your own out of your ass?)--because clicks matter more than content. I don't have any desire to subscribe to that. It muddies the water further, and pushes us as a society toward shittier times.

I'll post all goddamn day long when it comes to conversations of effort and substance. But jokes at baby, who I'm not even sure watches football (not meant to be insulting, just an observation based on what she posts in game threads--Baby is a champ otherwise, and she deserves a medal and raise for putting up with our collective jackassery), Gideon chasing every last post of BWW, and spress's.......words (for lack of a better term) are tired, and frankly don't do it for me. Instead of contributing to derailment which I've certainly been guilty of, but in gaining wisdom, I tend to just let the idiots roam. Much less headache. And even though sportshoopla and chicitysports also have sizable bears boards and discussions--still too many idiots for me, so I prefer this site, and Tim's been an excellent host/boss putting up with us all.

And we've been together fucking forever. I started at 13 posting on CBS reading the Bwws, Mongos, Jazzmans, (where is this cat? I miss talking baseball with him), footballplayer, KB, fuck; even Aggie and Average Joe (even though he kind of left here like a bitch). I'm now 30, and want our group to keep going (expansion would be nice--don't be strangers, Boonie and a few of you timid others), and we will, its now entering the dead month before FA/trades start and scouting for the draft heats up. So its going to be slow for a while.

I cant wait to talk more about draft/offseason. Anytime you feel like showing up....Aggie.
