See this I agree with. They will take a measured approach in my opinion which is why Steelers fans aren't lighting their beards on fire. Plus just because Dorsey is shopping doesn't guarantee he will shop wisely. If his free agent spree resembles his Jeremy Maclin signing Steelers fans will be okay with that.

He also sold about 40% of Pilot Flying J to Berkshire Hathaway, and is in the midst of a 5 year buyout...So I don't think money is an issue.

And here I thought it was the NFL's money obtained though TV revenue that was allocated to the 32 teams. ;)

But it was Jimmy's money that paid for Pilot Flying J fines and settlements.

Yes, Jimmy receives a 1/32 stake in TV revenues. No, he is not forced to spend it all and is allowed to pocket as much as he likes.

lol! c'mon, It was just humor...

And it was more in reference to the remark about the Browns "controlling the division" for the next decade or two, then what they will spend in free agency...

Which btw, is true...And FTR, I know a couple Steeler fans that would rather light their beards up than hear me talk about Baker Mayfield.:max:

Except that I was under the impression that the league office only sends a check to the 32 teams that equals the total of the payable portion of the team's player's contracts.

And I know for a fact that, in all owners cases, they must keep separate records of the owner's other financial interests and the team. So, Jimmy paying a fine or out of court settlement has absolutely no impact on the Brown's cap space.

Just as it doesn't matter one iota if Team A has a $3B owner and team B has a $20B owner, they can't spend any more on the roster than the other 31 teams.

Jimmy is a good business man, he wants this long term investment to make money...in the NFL two things make a franchise's worth..market and winning. Cleveland isn't the largest market in the country, so winning is what will make it worth more.

I don't think anyone expects them to spend $80M in cap space in one offseason...But, giving Randall and extension, re-signing Higgins and Perriman, then adding two more top free agents isn't exactly splurging, it's merely catching up to everyone else.

They DID spend last year, they traded for Jarvis Landry and made him the one of the top paid WRs in the league, then they traded for Damarious Randall and Tyrod as well. They signed Carlos Hyde and several key veteran support players..

The year before they signed Kevin Zeitler.

It isn't like they have been sitting on their hands.

They have nearly $80M to spend and I expect about half of that to be gone before the draft.

That sounds about right....If not, wth are we doing? This game is about winning the SB.

Rams are a perfect example. They went all in, and here they are. Gotta strike when the timing is right...

    Don't understand this.

Of course not. I'm talking about cash flow and personal income. These guys don't buy teams for shits and giggles. They expect income like anyone else and like any other business payroll has an impact on the bottom line. Dollars matter to these guys. Jimmy spending 20M of his 50M on cap space means 30M more in Jimmy's pocket. 30M is a lot of money.

I guess we'll see. They had 82.5M going into free agency last year and carried 56.5M into 2019.

Again, no one expects them to spend $80M, that is actually a tough task.. But I do expect them to spend between $40-50M. Last year the spending was on offense. I expect it to be a top player or two for the defense this year, plus some more upgrades to the backups/support players. Then they have a few of their own that need taken care of, some that need re-signed and others that need extensions. I expect to see Randall and Schobert get extensions soon...possibly Ogbah as well.

That money could get gobbled up in a hurry...We haven't spent on in house free agents in a long time, the time has come to start paying up.

I was reading where cutting Jamie Collins (which needs to be done) would cost 3M against the cap...whats his actual contract, and also what would the net gain be?

  14. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

He's got a $2.5 million dead cap number, but frees up $9.25 million in cap space.

If we wait until after June 1, those numbers are $1.25 million in 2019 dead cap and $10.5 million in freed cap space.

Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed by Mayfield not winning offensive ROY instead of Barkley. All I can say is it may add to that "chip" on his shoulder and spur him on until he wins an MVP and a Lombardi. Watch out AFCN, Mayfield's gonna tear this place up next year.

That's exactly what I was saying yesterday. Baker getting edged out for OROY will ultimately work to our favor. Keep that chip firmly planted on that shoulder....

Can't say I'm surprised, either. Browns have been getting screwed by the NFL for decades.
