People are shocked LVE didn't get a DROY vote when he was 2nd in tackles. Well Leonard was 1st. Anyone that would have voted for LVE would have looked at a similarly positioned Darius Leonard (unlike other 2) and changed their vote to Leonard. It's expected he wouldn't get a vote.

Three first-timers among 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame class...

Voters broke a logjam at cornerback, and began working on the glut of offensive linemen, as three first-time eligible finalists were voted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday.

Tight end Tony Gonzalez, safety Ed Reed, and cornerback Champ Bailey made it through in their first year, and were joined in the class by cornerback Ty Law and center Kevin Mawae.

Mawae and Law were in their third year of eligibility.

They were joined by a pair of contributor nominees (Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former Cowboys scout Gil Brandt), along with one seniors nominee (Chiefs safety Johnny Robinson).

Without a truly controversial nominee (such as Paul Tagliabue or Terrell Owens), the meeting moved at a quicker pace than recent years, lasting seven hours, 50 minutes.

While sometimes players at the same position can cancel each other out, it didn’t become an either-or decision on Law and Bailey. Mawae was able to push through a crowded field of blockers, as tackle Tony Boselli and guards Alan Faneca and Steve Hutchinson were in the final 10, along with safety Steve Atwater and running back Edgerrin James.

Those eliminated in the first cut from 15 to 10 were coaches Don Coryell and Tom Flores, wide receiver Isaac Bruce, defensive end Richard Seymour, and safety John Lynch.

The offensive linemen, James, and Atwater stand a decent chance next year, as the group of first-time eligible players isn’t as strong as years past. Safety Troy Polamalu leads the list, along with wide receiver Reggie Wayne and linebacker Patrick Willis. A deeper group is coming up in 2021, when Peyton Manning, Charles Woodson, and Calvin Johnson will be eligible. (PFT)

for a while there, it looked like no one was going to win. i needed 3-3 to win the block and got it. $2000! to see LA attempt that FG almost at the end was sickening. to see him miss was unreal.

congrats matty and pats nation on another SB. i hate them but you cannot deny their success and belichick is the greatest ever. brady did not have his best day but it was enough. he's the best qb as well.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman named Super Bowl LIII MVP...

In the lowest scoring game in Super Bowl history, there was no clear player -- on offense, defense or special teams -- to whom to award the Most Valuable Player. Such was the nature of the New England Patriots' complementary victory.

But someone had to claim the prize and, on Sunday evening, that man was Julian Edelman.

"I wasn't focused on [winning the MVP]," Edelman told CBS's Jim Nantz on the victors' podium following New England's 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. "I was just trying to go out and have a good week of practice and do my job. Sometimes the cookie crumbles that way."

The diminutive receiver finished with a game-high 10 catches for 141 yards. Always in the right place in the right time, eight of Edelman's receptions led to first-down pick-ups.

Though seven of Edelman's 10 receptions came in the first half, when New England scored just three points, his final grab was the second play on the Patriots' five-play game-winning touchdown drive midway through the fourth quarter.

In winning the MVP award, Edelman became just the second Patriots player not named Tom Brady to secure the honor (Deion Branch, XXXIX).

"He deserves it," Brady told Nantz on the podium about Edelman's accolade. "That was one of the best games he ever played." (NFL.com)

RAMS Coach said he was out coached. I don't think he was. Your offensive game plan was terrible. Not enough Gurley. Too many easy 3 and outs. You gave it to them on a platter by having little to no offense. Your OC should be held accountable as the offense stunk all night. Belichick could've coach against an offense that pathetic from his living room. It was like watching the old Tecmo Bowl game in the mid 1980's and only 4 offensive plays to call. that's all the Rams had.

Isn't that the definition of being outcoached though?

I'm a Dallas fan, and I would have voted for Leonard. Probably would have voted James #2, for that matter.

The Rams lost that game because Goff completely folded under any pressure. The Pats watched his performances against teams like Chicago, and saw that they just had to punch him in the mouth, and his day would be over. The spotlight isn't for him. That interception he threw to end the game was absolutely, extraordinarily unforgivable. And it was just one example of how he was, as a very polite lady watching with me put it, "a giant p****".

This game also proved why Tom Brady is the biggest beneficiary of the best coach of all time, as well as a fantastic surrounding cast. The Rams' D did an admirable job of stopping the Pats. But they gave up simple things they shouldn't have - same way the Chiefs did. Brady, as is most often the case, threw to his first read based off of the receiver motion and defense reaction. Clutch plays by his supporting cast made sure that was enough.

Story of this Super Bowl? The Rams may want to evaluate whether Goff will ever be big enough for the moment. The Patriots should send Goff a fruit basket. Brady should send the Patriots a fruit basket.

I thought the same thing. Regardless of whether I'm a Bears fan, there was a legitimate discussion to be had as to which player deserved it more. 45 to 5? Doesn't feel very legitimate to me. That's pretty damn lopsided.

i don't think so. their game plan sucked. not hard to defend against an offense that doesn't use it's star running back due to injury and throwing terrible passes over the middle of the field or the sidelines. any NFL coach would've loved to faced the Rams lat night with that offensive showing. You don't need to be Bill Belichick to coach against that kind of pathetic offense.
