Looking forward to 2019, Browns NFL Rookie Draft

Just about every name on Sam's list can, as well. But, Sanchez's skill set is far below Taylor's. And . . . Taylor has one more year in the Brown's offensive system than Sanchez.

I don't know about that skillset Lym....Sanchez was much higher thought of coming out of college.

Tyrod was a huge disappointment to me. Sanchez has two AFC Championship game appearances at least, albeit on a defensively oriented team....Who cares really?

They both suck IMO...I don't want either of them.

Just to be crystal clear . . . I am not advocating for the return of Tyrod Taylor. But he does have enough experience to read NFL defenses. He just doesn't have the skill set to do anything, other than run, once he knows what's happening on a given play.

What I would like to see happen is bring back Drew Stanton as the backup and draft or sign an UDFA to groom as a replacement for Drew Stanton down the road.

Bottom line: We could have easily started out 2018 with a record of 2-0...Our defense was playing lights out, and TT couldn't do shit!

We were at home and forced 5 TO"s from the Steelers offense in week one, and didn't win...

There were 10 other offensive players on the field with Taylor in weeks 1 and 2. Obviously, you and I look at things differently.

Pretty much exactly what I said a few posts back...

There were 10 offensive players on the field with every QB we've had since 99...

I didn't realize we were having an argument. I thought we were just having a discussion. Silly me.

Honestly, I don't care if you guys like Tyrod Taylor at QB. He's a worthy NFL back-up I suppose....He won't be in Cleveland this year. I'm positive of that.

Argument wasn't the right word...discussion much better..,.

I get fired up talking about the Browns. Sorry.

jus sayin...and that's since 96. We didn't even have a team for 3 of those years.

So anyway Lyman, I know we are both kind of intrigued with this guy:

He has a quality...Certainly not prototype.

On Tyrod. He never took a snap under a Kitchens O.

Plus: experience, mobility, low risk, knowledge of the team, the O, and the personnel

Minus: low risk (very timid/careful). I don't see any other glaring minus's. This is a minus largely because Mayfield is uber confident, and will throw it up, allowing his guys a shot. That's not Tyrod.

The question is, IMHO, what do you want from your backup? Tyrod may/may not be capable of "winning" games, but he won't "lose" games either. Money aside, he's the best backup plan available, but taking money into consideration.......?

We're also, skipping over Stanton. Is his value just in his relationship with Baker, or can he play? If Dorsey believes he can "play at Tyrod level" then the money for Tyrod is too much. 3rd string backup doesn't warrant it, but from a purely capabilities perspective, Tyrod would be hard to beat.

If we recognize that 3rd string is not "critical", because we have Stanton, then drafting a guy to develop makes more sense.

I'm hoping Tyrod brings us value, as in draft picks, prior to the draft, and given the relatively weak field of QBs in this draft, his movement could be his greatest value.

On that note, which NFL teams would benefit from a Tyrod rental?

I admit I am a bit intrigued by McSorley. He brings the same game as Mayfield . . . Just doesn't execute it as well as Baker. I caught more than a few Penn State games this past year and always had the thought that (if they were behind) they were never out of it. There is no quit in this kid.

I'm not smart enough to look at anyone's mechanics to dissect them and certainly can't tell if something could be fixed by coaching. I'll leave that aspect to others on here. He just comes across to me in the same light as does Mayfield - attitude wise.

The only question I have is would he be willing to go through the rigors of NFL training camps for four years with the goal of being a backup QB? I kinda doubt that.

    I agree with all that...

McSorley is a gamer, and natural leader of his team...The players, coaches and fans all believe in him...

As far as whether or not he'd be willing to work that hard for a B.U. role, I don't even think that's a concern to worry about. Plenty worse jobs out there than back up NFL QB and he isn't projected to be high pick anyway. He'll be able to prove his worth in preseasons, and practices, and if folks think he's starter material, word will get out. Either way, it's great for the Browns. If people think your #2 QB can start, then you have a great reserve, and a helluva commodity... He will likely move on in a trade if he's that good, we pick up a premium choice or two, and we do it again. Always cultivating that position...
