NFL Draft General Discussion

He' likely going to come in at exactly 5'10" or just a hair under, with a weight around 197 (unless he cuts weight for his 40 time).

That would make him less than an inch shorter than Wilson, but roughly 7 pounds less than where Wilson was at the combine. I can live with those measurables because Russell was roughly 2 years older than Murray when he went to the combine. Kyler can add on 12 pounds of good weight and he protects himself well when running.

As for your Giants - I read a report that they like the trio of Murray, Haskins and Jones quite a bit. I'm thinking a passer may be a lock for NY at the top of the draft and Jacksonville, Denver and Cincinnati may all be in the market to trade up ahead of the Giants.

197? That's a hell of a lot more weight than I have been hearing rumors of. I would be much more comfortable with him coming in at that range. 5'10" still scares me -- he needs to have special traits to overcome that and well, I have been holding off on taking a look at him for now - so I may see some when I actually put on the film.

I have watched a few games on Haskins and Jones but haven't done any actual film study on them. My initial thoughts on those two is Haskins looks like a legit prospect and Jones is going to be overdrafted. I just don't see "it" with him. I can't say I am surprised the Giants like him though, it seems like an incredibly Giants thing to care more about the Cutcliffe connection than if the player is actually any good.

What are your thoughts on Lock? I have watched 7 games on him and I feel like I can't really put my finger on him. That makes him a hard pass at 6 to me but i can't help but feel like maybe I am being too harsh. Like if Lock played at Oklahoma I might have a completely different evaluation of him... I felt pretty strongly that I knew how I felt about all the QB's I evaled last year. I'm just really wishy washy on Lock for some reason.

BUT, lol, He's got a Heisman... that adds at least an inch!

This is the same line of thinking I have had on it since I started putting together reports.

He's a difficult eval because of how much projection is involved. I think some of his accuracy issues are mechanics related, so there's always the question of whether or not it can be coached out of him. You watch him throw to the left and he steps in, works the arm and delivers. When he throws to the right it comes out low out of a flatfoot stance. He winds up sometimes in his delivery and I hate the way he drifts/fades back on his heels away from the oncoming rush.

The thing that I dislike the most is his questionable ball placement. He will go through his progressions quickly, make the right read, anticipate the break and then place the ball in a questionable spot.

Basically, he's about 3/4 of what might be needed to become an NFL starter but the other 1/4 contains risk that teams will have to decide whether or not are acceptable for a high pick.

He'll likely end up lower on my totals than most places.

Ugh his ball placement is perfect if the receiver is streaking wide open but if the throw is contested it's like he always throws into the wrong spot.

He will anticipate where his receiver is going to be, throw into a soft spot in the zone before his receiver hits the top of his break, and then put the ball in a spot that allows the defender to make a play anyhow... It's so damn frustrating. I think you are exactly right in your 3/4 and 1/4. He is close enough to make me think he can but good but I am REALLY worried about that other 1/4 and it just makes me feel uneasy with him as a prospect. If "franchise QB" is a yes or no decision I am way to worried about that 1/4 to say yes...

Well I’ve watched the East-West Shrine game and I’m looking forward to the senior bowl today.

I will probably start my 2019 scouting in earnest this week.

I have to vent though, seeing Mayock do a little interview as Raiders GM at the senior bowl practices this week gave me a moment of legitimate depression. Going to miss him at the Senior Bowl and especially at the combine. Even more excited for Oakland’s potential as early as 2020 though.

As for NFL Network filling his shoes, I surprisingly overlooked the option they’ve chosen early...bring in no one new. They seem to be simply giving Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks extra opportunities to be the “expert”. So far the funny side note there is I didn’t realize how much personality Mayock had until now. Coverage now is lacking a little something so far.

I'd prefer they kept together the 'B' team with Brooks and added someone to Mayock's spot.

I find that being able to click over to the Rich Eisen version when having Buck on full time is preferable to the reverse.

What would be better, IMO, is if they had an online format that had only two people and they went over what was happening in real time without all of the added bullshit. Just show me the events, the results, what's coming up next and some replays during the downtime. I can go back and get the analysis anytime I want on the reruns with Rich and the gang.

    Remember the name 'B.J. Blunt'.

If he tests well he is going to go before the end of round 3.

Who’s BJ Blount? I know some that will give a good bj after smoking a Blount

Linebacker from McNeese State. He has a chance to be this year's version of Darius Leonard.

If the markets are a reliable indicator of player value for the current time frame, these would be the 3 most valuable players at each skill position on offense -
    • QB - Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock, Will Grier
    • RB - Damien Harris, David Montgomery, Devin Singletary
    • WR - D.K. Metcalf, N'Keal Harry, A.J. Brown
    • TE - Noah Fant, Irv Smith Jr., Kaden Smith

I searched the WWW and only found a couple things. Apparently he was suspended by the coach for an undisclosed incident... had 2 lbs of weed and was a suspect to be trafficking it, but the police didn't prosecute... Not really a lot of big 'red flags' , in my opinion.

Maybe his knee is a 'red flag' also... I don't know.

Nagy is about as well connected as anyone involved in the draft, so I would definitely be interested in hearing what other rumors were passed onto him regarding Deandre's character issues.

What I'm getting from the rumor mill is that he has a slew of domestic related issues that have been covered up by the team.

And possibly from whatever members of the police involved. I don't want to act like I know what happened with Winston but the police weren't, or I should say were, helping.

Yeah, I think this is a safe assumption on your part, Joe.

I think it may add more than an inch. Oh we're talking scouts, right?
