    Time to move on.

    1) The California/Oakland Seals (later Golden Seals) were one of six expansion teams in 1967. They relocated and were renamed the Cleveland Barons in 1976. They only lasted two seasons in Ohio. But, the team did not simply disband, rather they merged with the Minnesota North Stars.

    2) San Jose was awarded an expansion team in 1991. However, they stocked their inaugural roster in a unique way. They first drafted players from the MN North Stars. The new Sharks and North Stars then took turns selecting players from the rest of the teams.

We all hear the (inaccurate*) term "Original Six" to well-established NBC teams. Well, * in the first 25 year history of the NHL there were from 3 to 12 teams in any given season, and the first season only 3 teams skated. Only one of those three still exist; the Montreal Canadiens are the Original One.

What American city is the Original One to have an NHL team? What year did they start playing?

I knew of part 1 but didn't think that was what you were looking for. I thought the tie in was the former owners bought the new California teams. Damn. A quarter correct. Lol.

I thought it was the New York Americans who became the Rangers?

The rangers and americans co-existed until the great depression got the best of the americans. How many people in those times could of afforded a ticket to a hockey game? Most people were in soup lines, the americans, original islanders?

Boston is correct. I'll give you full credit even though you didn't specify the year 1924.

BTW, the Hamilton Tigers (who actually started in 1917 as the Quebec Bulldogs, but were an inactive franchise until they spent a few years in Hamilton), became the NY Americans. Yes, the Rangers were a later NY team and the two had a very uneasy coexistence in NY until the Rags finally drove the Amerks outta Gotham.

You only get one Like from me for this, Lava. But that is only because we can only like a post once. Otherwise I'd give you ten likes.

Yes, Grapes coached the Amerks. The Amerks are my original favorite team. (That's because I was an Amerks fan before the Sabres existed.)

In any case, it's fairly well chronicled here on L4S that I never mention that name - they're "the hockey team from Boston" forever for me.* Now I'll reveal why I grew to detest* the hockey team from Boston.

At the time, Boston had their AHL affiliate in Rochester, and Grapes was behind the bench for the Amerks. Well, the hockey team from Boston had the audacity to hire him away from Rochester. Theiving bastards! That'll put you on my shit list for life.

(* Truth is I no longer hate that team, just like I no longer hate the hockey team from Philadelphia**. I actually like them whenever Boston is not playing Buffalo. I just cannot risk having my tongue fall off by speaking that name. At least ** I have a logical basis for hating the hockey team from Philadelphia. Losing a SC is legitimate and rational and not youthful impetuosity.)

at least the flyers won the cup fair and square.well a little fisticuffs never hurt anyone. brett hull, on the other hand, and his front skate cost, your sabres a chance to win the cup with an obvious rules infraction.

  11. 1999 NHL Rulebook - Rule 78-b: "Unless the puck is in the goal crease area, a player of the attacking side not possessing the puck may not stand in the goal crease. If the puck should enter the net while such conditions prevail, the goal shall not be allowed.

Unreal eh..........NO Goal according to the Rule and the Photo.

But yet the Stars hoisted the "Cup"

it's a great list, but i've encountered mario fan's in HS in the 80's bf he got sick and bf he had a bad back saying he was better than gretzky. the mario-gretzky debate is not debatable to me. injuries are a part of life and sports. you can't give mario the games he missed back bc he was hurt. so therefore he never played those game and therefore never had the points and goals needed to challenge gretzky's stats.

and for all those saying gretzky had better teammates. 2 things when he was 7 or 9 he scored 300 goals in a league against kids 3-4 ages older than he was. i think if he played with joe blow he could score and do well. he made everyone better not the other way around. and mario had these players with him for 1 or both cups-hall of famers - mark recchi, bryan trottier, ron francis and paul coffey. 85-100+ pts scorers - rick tocchet, rob brown and kevin stevens. his goalie was tom barrasso who was an all-star. oh and some kid and future hall of famer and the #2 pt scorer now - jaromir jagr -- so people need to stop saying mario had no help. he HAD TONS OF IT.

then some idiot said the 80's were diluted with talent. ha. put gretzky back in the original 6 and those old timers would quit from chasing him. look at when he came into the league. he tied for scoring with marcel dionne on a half season since he came over from the wha. all those slow teams like the flyers were done. talent and finesse was in. the islanders were in. speed was in. goonery was out. there are more hof'ers from the 80's and 90's then 70's i bet.

Good luck, Lava. It's always fun when the expansion siblings face off. The top two Calder contenders make this a great match up for the entire NHL.
Dahlin is worthy of the praise & hype he received leading up to the draft. His fellow Swede, EP, is going to run away with RoY. Deservingly.

Or, is he a smaller teenager playing against men? I think he's going to, in all probability, have a HoF career.

I think people will be talking about Dahlin 50 years from now.

i'll be dead in 50 years. damn. i don't see much of Dahlin bc the Flyers only play them twice a year. i'll have to see if i can see some Sabres games on CNBC and NBC this Spring to see him.
