What hotel will you be in? I can check with my son to see if he's gonna be using his Blackhawk tickets for that date, I'll let you know when he responds. Don't forget to hit up Au Cheval. Best. Burgers. Ever.
We're gonna be in the Central Loop / Club Quarters Hotel. It's cheap, clean, warm, we don't need a big room, and they give us free bottled water / coffee / food. I'm down to save the extra money in the mornings / evenings. Plus they give you a yoga mat for free, so... I'm sure that'll sit in the corner of the room. If your son isn't using the tickets, we'll be happy to reimburse him. It'll be the first Blackhawks game I've seen outside of South Florida, and I'm not sure there'll be another any time soon. If he is using the tickets, I'll be happy to shake his hand and grab a round. I'll add Au Cheval to the list. We're getting in town around noon, so we'll be hungry, and we leave after lunch on the last day as well. 5 days worth of places to check out.
Plus they give you a yoga mat for free, so... I'm sure that'll sit in the corner of the room I can't begin to express my shock at this!
I love me some yoga and whatnot, but we're going to be in that hotel room to sleep and... well, not necessarily yoga. We're on vacation - I'll do yoga when I get home. We're gonna try to make the most of every moment we've got there, so ideally doing whatever we can't do back home. ... For the most part.
Yeah that's not a bad spot at all. My son and my nephew both work in the hotel industry. I left my oldest idiot a voicemail...soon as he gets back to me I'll let you know about the tickets.
And the Dad of the Year Award goes to ... The Father of the oldest idiot!! LOL Gawd Bww ... you're terrible!!
Haha! Ive gotta say, the sheer level of bitch you display chasing bww around with these snide remarks is a joy to read. Just be careful going after someones family like that tho. Wouldn't want them coming back at you asking if your dad paid the bills by frying up goat in some shitshack too...
If you are going to the Hawks game you might want to stop and grab some cheap eats at the Billy Goat before the game at Madison and Ogden, and If you have a rent a car they give you free parking for the game and it's just a couple of blocks of a walk. I hope I'm still around and I should be until at least closer to the end of the month. I expected to be down south at this point fixing my furnace but that isn't the case right now with this job thing but as long as they're paying, I'm staying, being retired has that flexibility.
Yes I know that. You love your whole family with all your heart. It's one of the best parts about you and it actually makes you one of the best fathers I've ever known.
Au cheval is really fucking good burgers. My office is 3 blocks away. I pass it everyday on way in and have it a few times a month. Do not go to small cheval. And if your going the bar on Randolph after 5, be prepared to be turned away. When they fill up, they stop letting people in. There's a good irish bar a block over (Paddy O fegans) where you can go and grab drinks. And a decent distillary a few blocks over. Shit, there's a lot over there including a fucking awesome dirty greasy mexican place that has the best fucking greasy ass steak burritos you've ever had. And I worked full time at a greasy ass mexican restaurant from 11 to 16 so I know good mexican food. Back to burgers... .I think when Au cheval franchised they lost something. I think brgbelly is a little better. But it's a neighborhood joint and I highly doubt you'd head up to portage park from downtown.
Brgrbelly is pretty damn good. I raised my kids in the Portage Park neighborhood. That area of Randolph by Au Cheval is fucking restaurant and bar heaven. Proxi, Girl and the Goat, Publican...on and on. So many great places.
That whole neighborhood has compeltely changed in the last 15 years. I worked at a mexican restaurant there 35 years ago and that place was a rat hole. you could walk over to lake st and pick up hookers who'd hide behind the train posts. "Fulton market" used to be whore heaven. Now, you can actually buy shit there again... It's actually a market again.
Yeah when I was a kid and the outfit still ran that area of Chicago that area wasn't bad. Then the old Italian neighborhood kinda disappeared and things got rough and you didn't go through that area at all. But it's definitely been revived. Fulton Market and Taylor Street are alive again. It's actually a desirable place to live now with all the high priced condos. I was a teacher for a while at Smyth elementary school off of Blue Island and 13th. Right across the street from the projects that were a warzone at the time. You heard gunshots during the day time coming from the apartments across the street. Now that area is pretty cleaned up and the firehouse on the corner is where they film Chicago Fire. Pretty amazing transformation.
So did they ever finally shoot you? That's really all I got out of "burgers, bars, hookers, Mexican blah blah blah ... "
Much appreciated, my friend. And glad to hear that we didn't pick the wrong place - after all the fuss of planning, that's reassuring. Looks like it wouldn't be too tough to stop there on the way in or out of ORD. We'll put it on the list to potentially stop on our first or last day. We'll be walking / taking public transportation, but if we're eating before the game, we'll make that a stop. I'm all about good food being cheap, and it looks like it's right on the way. If you're around, you just let me know! Would love to see you!
