Jason Peters: Saints ran up the score, Eagles eager to play them again...

When Philadelphia and New Orleans met in the regular season, the Saints won 48-7. The Eagles have not forgotten.

Eagles left tackle Jason Peters says the Eagles have been longing for a rematch with the Saints ever since that one-sided beatdown, and now they’re going to get it in the divisional round of the playoffs.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Peters said. “They ran up the score. We wanted them again, we got them again. This time, hey, we coming. It’s definitely not going to be the same outcome.”

The Eagles didn’t appreciate it when the Saints, already leading 38-7 in the fourth quarter, had quarterback Drew Brees throw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Alvin Kamara. New Orleans later added a field goal, and the 41-point margin of victory was the second-biggest point differential in any game in the 2018 regular season. Peters and his teammates would love to show that they’re a very different team now. (PFT)

It’s going to take some strange azz calls for the Eagles to win.

 

they need a key turnover for a score and play shutdown defense to win. they need to hold Brees in check as best as possible. Foles needs to play solid as well and much better than last Sunday night. Will be the toughest game out of the four this weekend.

 

Report: John Elway is choosing between Vic Fangio and Mike Munchak…



As the head-coaching dominoes begin to fall, the Denver domino apparently will land in one of two directions.

Mike Klis of 9News.com reports that Broncos G.M. John Elway “appears to be deciding between” Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

Klis adds that Fangio may have a slight edge, making him the rare defensive coach who could get a head-coaching job in the current hiring cycle. But Fangio has a couple of things going for him. First, he’s a great defensive coach. Second, with Gary Kubiak expected to be re-involved with the team’s offense (possibly as offensive coordinator), the Broncos could hire a defensive coach without having to worry about the offensive coordinator quickly being pilfered as a head coach elsewhere, since Kubiak claims to have stepped away from being a head coach, for good.

As Klis notes, Elway may have tipped his plans last week, when explaining John Elway that he wants the next head coach “to be great on one side of the ball,” and “I look for greatness on that side.”

Fangio is great on defense, Munchak is great, as far as the offensive line is concerned. And the Broncos need to do great things soon, or great big changes could be coming at levels above the coaching function. (PFT)

 

Turns out the "double doink" was partially blocked, and I've heard it's being changed to a blocked field goal in the official stats.

I guess that's some consolation for Parkey, knowing that his freak kick didn't single-footedly end Chicago's season.

 

Never been a team that lost a regular season game by 40+ points that went on to win a Super Bowl.

 

to me Parkey is to blame but so is the defense for allowing Foles to march down the field with 3 min left to score the winning TD on a 4th and goal !! They had him in check for most of the game and they when they needed it the most, the #1 ranked defense couldn't stop him. throws for first downs over the middle to Jeffery, Ertz and Goeddard were in double coverage and Foles found a way to get the ball to them. Def stopped them 3 times on the goalline but not a 4th time. That was the damn game! The Eagles allowing that huge run return by Cohen and a long pass play only allowed Parkey to attempt the kick. If the Eagles def does their job in the last minute, Parkey never attempts the damn kick !

 

Right, but if the Bears defense does their job, the Eagles don't have the lead in the first place. This goes both ways...

 

A kick that goes 130 feet and high in the air isn't a block. I've watched the video more times than I should have and the ball starts off on a bad line...and I don't really see a change of direction or even a change in rotation. So while it probably certainly grazes a fingertip...calling that a block is a joke.

Parkey choked. It shouldn't be all that shocking considering the regular season he had.

You can point to dozens of other plays and say this could have happened or this should have happened and it's all moot. With the game on the line and next to no time on the clock...Parkey had a chance to be a hero and couldn't deliver.

All the other what ifs are silly.

 

The reports here are that the Falcons asked Denver for permission to interview Kubiak for the OC opening, but Elway denied the request. I'm still holding out a slim hope that the team will also ask Denver for permission to interview Bill Musgrave, in the hopes that Elway plans to let the new HC choose his own staff and would give the leftover coaches permission to head elsewhere considering the uncertainty of their future in Denver.

There are already reports that the team made an offer to Dirk Koetter - which the team has since denied. All the same, I suspect that Musgrave won't even be on their interview list. And that's a shame, because he'd be the PERFECT coordinator for Atlanta.

 

It's down to Fangio and Munchak for Denver?

That makes me nervous. I think it's critical to continuity that Fangio stays in Chicago.

 

correct but neither is on Parkey. Both def were at fault in the last 3 min. Bears had Foles in check for 98% of the game. the last 3 min cost them. I still think the Bears are loaded for the future on both sides of the ball. Yes, no consolation about what happened Sunday night, but as teams face salary cap issues in the future and retiring players etc, Chicago looks prime to sit atop the NFC Central for a decade unless GB gets their asses in gear for another Rodgers run. Minnesota needs the same for Cousins and company and Detroit is well, Detroit. Bears are loving this.

 

solid points. shocked he made the other 3 FGs in the game and the one when the TO was called considering his seasonal track record.

 

glad you brought this up because I was going too. it's widely spoken of in Philly that Frank Reich, last year's OC, was the genius and mastermind to the Eagles SB run, not Doug Pederson. If you can block a coach from talking to a team, why the hell did the Eagles block Reich from talking to the Colts ? I know it's a dick move to do that, but business is business and winning is winning and as the OC of the SB Champs, why let him leave and other teams allow it??

 

I'm not faulting any defense that gives up 15 or 16 total points in a game. Expecting a team to keep an offense that won a SB in check for all 60 minutes is a bit silly.

Teams are gonna score points. Eagles gave up around 22 points a game in the regular season. The Bears gave up just under 18 per game.

Both units outperformed their regular season versions of themselves.

 

He made 75% of his attempts that counted...puts him right near his season average. And he missed when it mattered most....something he also did in the regular season.

That's why Bears fans all year were calling for him to be cut. We didn't trust him when he was needed the most...I don't know how Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy could either. Several fans on the Bears board said all year it was a realistic possibility that Parkey could cost the Bears a playoff win...and that's exactly what he did.

 

I believe you can't deny a coach permission if he's interviewing for the head coaching job.

 

Agreed. If you were told before the game the Eagles were going to be held to 16 points, you'd have taken it in a heartbeat.
