Just saw Mary Poppins Returns with the weef and little guy on a rainy Friday. As schmaltzy as you’d expect but a solid pleasant family film.

I watched that movie as a kid, the old one. You couldn’t pay me enough to sit through that crap again.

i forget the first one. i do know the guy behind the award winning hamilton is behind the new one, so i suspect it's a lot of musical numbers like the old one but more grandiose.

Was it Dick Van Dyke And Julie Andrews as the stars?

Believe it or not . . . I watched two movies over the holiday week that I had never watched before. "Deliverance" and "Cast Away" .

I wasn't overly impressed with either one.

You never watched Deliverance? It's a stupid movie, but everyone watched it.

Cast Away could've been a lot better. they never show Hanks going through the island looking for any supplies to stuff to use to survive. that's the second thing i would do after starting a fire. all they show him is in the cave and on the one part of the beach. kind of lame. and he was missing for 4 yrs. so his girlfriend gives up on him, gets married and has a 2 yr old in that time? seems pretty fast doesn't it ? dating alone is a 1-2 year courtship. plus her grieving time once he is presumed dead. then having a baby ? way too fast.

Deliverance is just a scary ass weird movie. from the weird kid playing banjo, to the cops and to the wild mountain men who were rapists. crazy.

the old man and the gun - robert redford's last movie. wow. very simple and yet amazing how he and his buddies pulled it off. the end was great too.

the guilty. a Swedish movie getting huge raves. will be up for best foreign film at the 2019 Oscars. Jake Gyllenhaal just bought the rights to it to remake it in America. i think the US version will be better. The movie is a little confusing as he takes several phone calls all seemingly bad. you have to follow along and it's like "who to believe here?" could've been a lot better.

this isn't a movie but i'll post here -Springteen on Broadway. saw it on tv for free. he talks way too much. less talking and more songs and for what people paid for tix. yes, more singing. i don't like his politics, but enjoy his music.

Bohemian Rhapsody - not as bad as i thought it would be. Rami Malek is great as Freddy Mercury. I think he's a lock for an Oscar Nomination in 3 weeks. Movie was well paced and moves quickly through his and the band's life. it's not drawn out at all. it doesn't dive too deep into their music or lives either like RAY does. i like the pace of it.

Green Book. very good. based on a true story. M. Ali is fantastic as the real life Dr. Shirley. He just won a Golden Globe for the role. He won an Oscar for only 10-15 minutes worth of work last year. I didn't think he deserved it as he wasn't in the movie that long. He is certain to be an Oscar lock now for a nomination and win and this time, it was well deserved.

Am I missing something here? My brother called me the other night telling me he watched aquaman and says it's a great movie. I told him that I walked out after 20 mins and he started laughing saying I missed a great movie.

Also, the box office numbers are off the charts. I think this movie appeals to a certain age group. I remember as a kid and looking at aquaman as the wannabe superhero late to the party.

now i didn't walk out on it and wouldn't have if i paid good money to see it. it was mainly CGI. The story was lame and right out of the comics. these people will pay to see anything. that's why they keep making Avengers movies. never even heard of them till i was a teen. as a kid the only super heroes kids wanted to be was Superman, Spiderman or Batman. Iron Man was a joke. X-men never caught on either where i lived. the kids in our grade school liked the classics.

aquaman a great movie? wow. what does he think of citizen kane then ? haha.

I think some people when they're in a group, they don't want to go against the grain and be controversial. The main actor appeals to the goofy millenials of today, and of course the beard.
Nothing beats brandos part in superman, classic.

even Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor was great. smart and collective. Where was Manta Ray ? he was in the movie at the beginning and end. lame. he should've had a bigger role vs aquaman's half brother !

There was this one kid on the block that collected comic books and everyone thought it was strange. He was probably one the few kids on the street that never picked up a hockey stick to play street hockey. His best friend was my cousin, he never played hockey either.
Isn't it a coincidence they both became university proffs, wow.

And this kid surely knew about manta ray.

those comics are probably worth some coin now.

i knew of manta ray from the cartoon - the superfriends. the super heroes had the HAll of JUSTICE- a precursor to the Justice League, but in theory the same thing. their nemesis were the LEGION OF DOOM led by Lex Luthor-all the bad guys who would meet in the a Darth Vader helmet in the swamp. that's where i saw Manta Ray. for every super hero there was a matching villain.

Pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum from Mary Poppins, I saw this on Showtime over the weekend...Enjoyed it very much. Ending caught me by surprise.

I probably saw manta ray when I was a kid and just don't remember. This kid was your typical geek, but oddly he was ahead of his time. The dark rimmed glasses are in style and this guys the godfather of geekville.

The comic books that are worth a lot have to be really rare, most likely from the 40s or 50s. He collected comic books in the 70s. Even if his colletion is worth up to $3k, woopdi doo. My uncle bought a house in 1965 for $15k and it was sold in 2017 for $770k, that's an investment.

I told you about that beatles collector that would buy rare beatle albums in the early 80s for $400, and now they're worth $300k. This guy, another geek and doesn't have to work, retired at 35.
