Depends on who you follow, but there were several people out there that predicted not only Derwin's spot but the idea that he could end up in Baltimore or San Diego gained a lot of steam going into that weekend.

He was never considered a lock for the top 10, some thought the top 16 was lofty and at the beginning of the process he was viewed as a back of the first draft pick.

  2. I have to disagree....many viewed him in the top half of the draft....TB and Miami(Fitzpatrick) were in the top half and one took a safety....TB just made another blunder like usual w their draft pick

You can disagree if you like, but I track this kind of thing throughout the off-season and he was never considered a lock or consensus top 10 pick.

    Ever.

It wasn't until the lead up to the draft that he moved into the lower teens and he was projected to go in a similar spot to where he ended up.

He didn't slide from his projected value, which was the point of your post about Greedy in comparison to Derwin.

I even had him going to the Chargers in my final mock of the year (third page - perfection).

  4. I never mentioned a lock for the top 10....I said TB was very interested until he didn’t go to their private workout which was top 10 then I said Miami took a safety at 11 which very easily could have been Derwin...he was suppose to go top half and he pretty much did at #17...now teams wish they took him top 5 looking back at it

Bingo because when you draft on need instead of talent you end up with picks like Artie Burns, Bud Dupree, and Jarvis Jones instead of Hunter Henry, Landon Collins, and Eric Reed.

You suggested that he slid compared to his perceived value going into the draft.

My point is - he didn't.

I really thought the Steelers should have gone with Justin Reid if Roquan Smith, Vander-Esch and Rashaan Evans were all off the board (and I expected them all to be gone by the time PIT went on the clock).

Reid has looked pretty damn good for the Texans so it will be interesting to see if Edmunds develops into what the Steelers are hoping for.

And for the record - I liked Artie Burns quite a bit coming into the draft, but I was hesitant about the fit with Pittsburgh when he was selected.

  8. He did slide....all it takes is one team and that value goes out the window....what’s his value now being DROY and 1st team All Pro....one of the best value picks behind Leonard in the draft

  9. Dupree is very very good...not sure the hate he gets here...he sets the edge in the run game and gets after the QB...either him or Watt are gonna get home most times

You are flat out wrong on this.

Again, he did not slide compared to his perceived value.

Again, he was not considered a lock for the top 10 and he moved into the mid teen range just shortly before the opening of the draft.

He was selected in the area he was projected to be taken in.

That, by definition, is not 'sliding'.

  11. Well then according to your projections the Browns gambled on Mayfield cause his projection was not #1?

Pittsburgh will probably opt to surprise everybody with another Burns or Edmunds type pick.

Mayfield isn't the topic of discussion, but if you want to relate him to this topic...

If you want to say that Baker was overdrafted based on his relative value prior to the draft, you could make that argument. The market leading up to last year's draft had Baker in and out of top 10 status before settling on top 5.

It doesn't change the fact that Derwin didn't slide compare to his relative value predraft.

And it doesn't change the fact that you tried to use that to justify your thoughts on Greedy sliding to the mid picks of the first in this draft compared to his current relative value (which is somewhere within the top 10 picks).

  14. Ok ur not getting it but that’s ok...quick question do u have access to every war room? If not then how do U know Derwin wasn’t ranked top 5 by some team or multiple teams....again his value now that he played showed he was top 5 player and Greedy we will wait and see where he goes...my guess is not top 10

  15. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

No, you're refusing to get it, for the most obvious of reasons.

Derwin was drafted at a point within his perceived value, meaning he didn't slide compared to what his market would indicate going into the draft.

Right now, Greedy's market would indicate that he is going to be a top 10 pick. He would have to 'slide' in order to get to Pittsburgh based on his perceived value.

You tried to use Derwin as a relative example.

    You were wrong.

Not a big deal, other than the fact that you want to make it into something else or try to frame it in another way.

  16. Market? What does that mean....Kiper, McShay, some guy from CBS, Walter Football...I’m not framing it anyway...ru saying the market was higher for Fitzpatrick than Derwin...I can guess there were 32 GMs that had them ranked very similar and no consensus and if not then shame on them

  17. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

I'll ask you the same question you asked me - Do you have access to all 32 war rooms?

    Nope.

All we have to track the market is what analysts are suggesting through rankings, mocks and additional information that they relay from insiders along with any insights we can glean through coaches, owners, GMs and team reporters.

That information is put together to shape the market.

It's the only actual information we have to project a players market value in a draft.

That is the relative value that sets whether or not a player 'slides' compared to the consensus or majority thinking on where that player will be selected.

Based upon that, Derwin was selected within his market range. He never slid.

And yes, the market was higher for Minkah than it was for Derwin.

Your using Derwin to justify a slide for Greedy is wrong, because based upon his market value Derwin never slid.

  19. I do not have access to them and that’s my point....none of us really know the market for the people calling the shots so that’s a vague assumption he was projected mid teens..what if a team had him ranked top 7 that was picking 25? According to their projecting their getting a steal

  20. Campbell Administrator Manager Commissioner

None of that has to do with whether or not a player is perceived to be sliding.

Again, Derwin never slid based on his draft projections.

It was a bad comparison to use to justify your thoughts on Greedy 'sliding' to Pittsburgh in the upcoming draft.
