What's weird is that the Colts barely won last week. If the Giants would have held on I'd be a Colts fan tonight
Wow that was definitely something we witnessed today. Not for even a split second did I believe the Ravens were going to come away with a victory at the end. The defense was simply back to abysmal form all day long as there were broken coverages and completely unchecked receivers running wild. Marlon Humphrey had a horrendous game today, and Young seemed to quit on 2 different plays. The front 7 got barely any pressure as well, and that all leads up to a loss except for the fact that we actually got turnovers today. Jefferson again sucks except when he's running forward, and Jimmy had an overall nice game. The refs....oh man the refs were on another level today. I don't know how I feel about the Jackson fumble as it's hard for me to really fault what the refs did there. In hindsight, the Browns got boned on that one, but in real time, the ref called a TD, and because of that, the play dies immediately. The ref was already waving his arms and blowing the play dead before the Browns recovered the fumble. I just can't fault the ref much on that where we are talking about maybe less than an inch between the TD and not a TD. In fact, if we didn't have the super slow mo cameras, no one would have been able to discern Jackson didn't cross the plane. Long story short, the call on the field made sense at the time, and replay correctly showed he didn't make it. After that though, the refs went into full on make-up which included taking a TD off the board for the Ravens. The Perriman catch wasn't a catch, but the Landry one was IMHO. The Ravens need to fix their pass protection at some point. Granted we don't pass much, but the amount of sacks per dropbacks seems to be significantly higher now than it even was early in the season. I wonder if they are simply so used to run blocking now that they forget how to do it? I think if the team wants a minor advantage on Sunday, then they should hope for a Saturday 1pm game against the Chargers. Anyway, what a crazy season. Count me among those who said the Ravens had zero playoff chances let alone division aspirations.
At 4-5, i wrote our team off and was calling for John's head and Lamar to start. Well, they proved me wrong and we get to watch a home playoff game next week. They did the right thing by letting Lamar take over though. John Harbaugh will be around in 2019. Eric DeCosta will have his first full draft as the final decision maker of the team. The future is bright still and this playoff season could be very special. Any AFC team in, has a chance to win it all. Go Ravens!
I strongly recommend NOT watching the Browns/Ravens highlights from yesterday. Wow did Marlon Humphrey(and Tavon Young...but mostly Humphrey) have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
Marlon Brown came back and got converted to CB? Lol I'm kidding. Yeah, Humphrey had his worst game as a professional. Almost caused the loss. He was simply abused all game
the miscommunication in the secondary was plentiful. The Defense laid a giant egg and somehow they still managed to sneak out with the win..... They better tighten up the ship before Rivers comes into town next week.
Especially when you consider the Ravens had the ball a whopping 17 minutes more than the Browns! The good thing is by laying an absolute egg out there, it should make them focus up a lot more for the Chargers.
I was just looking up Mark Andrews' stats just to see how he fared this year. As a rookie, Andrews scored as many TDs and just 24 yards less than Perriman did his entire career here on 9 fewer receptions and a whopping 51 fewer targets. Holy F-balls
Crazy season. I never would have believed when the Ravens barely beat the Bengals in Jackson's first start to go to 5-5 that they would be where they are. Personally, I still think Jackson has a long way to go, but I can't argue the results so far. I've also heard it said that defense travels, meaning that should they get past L.A. this Sunday, buckle up! It's going to be a bumpy ride, and anything is possible. So let's dream big; Wouldn't an AFC Championship game in Baltimore be nice. We'd be playing Indianapolis (who I think is a real dark horse in this group). Long shot, yea, I know, but certainly possible given that Indy has already beaten the Texans in Texas, and New England and KC don't seem as formidable as once thought. But if you like good old fashioned AFC North football, get ready for 2019 because Pittsburgh will always be Pittsburgh and always a pain in the ass, but the Browns are no longer to be taken lightly, and don't think otherwise. Gregg Williams did a great job after they got shed of Hue and you can see the type of team they are building. If they decide to change coaches, they better pick a good one. Cincy will have a new coach and nowhere to go but up. The Ravens have to keep up. DeCosta, Harbaugh now have to show what they've got and keep adding parts. The last thing Steelers fans want to hear about their team is someone yelling "Go West". The Steelers were-4-1-1 in the division, but lost all four games to teams -from the AFC west, plus Baltimore and New Orleans. The Browns were 3-2-1 in the division, split with the NFC South, and lost 3 to the AFC west. plus losing to Houston. The Ravens were 3-3 in the division, split with the NFC South and lost to KC. These teams will be ready for next season.
Yea, why is that? He couldn't catch a cold here. Maybe he's finally healthy. Either way good luck to him. He finally looks like he has a future.
I asked a friend of mine who was the QB coach at Rutgers a few years back that same question. He suspected it probably has something to do with the difference in how the ball arrives when thrown by Flacco vs when thrown by Mayfield.
Funny thing, I had a debate/argument about that on here a few weeks ago. I pointed out that receivers have had drops issues with Flacco that they didn't have, at least not as badly, away from him. Since Baltimore always has someone else's free agent WRs, it was easy enough to compare. I'll say this though, I think the "change of scenery" statement has never been more true than it has for Perriman. As a Raven, he experienced his first severe sports injury. His best friend died. His dad almost died. Even the fanbase turned on him. Leaving Baltimore was best for him
I can't believe it's just that. There has to be more to it than a difference in delivery. He has more confidence. A change of scenery was the best thing for him.
I think everyone needs to slightly pump the brakes on Perriman here though. If he is better in Cleveland, it's only by the most marginal of levels. Now I will give credit that his catch rate is far superior in Cleveland, but when you drop 60% of your passes, there's almost nowhere to go but up. His TDs are up in Cleveland (2 compared to the 3 he had in his Ravens career), but he's still averaging the exact same amount of catches per game as he did his entire career (1.6 catches per game). He's what a #4 or 5 option on a team and doesn't play ST which is about as far removed from being a #1 pick in the draft as you can get. He was also signed and cut by the Redskins before ever joining the Browns. There's no doubt that everything with Perriman is mental and not physical, so a change in scenery is a must. He very well may completely turn around his career, but he's so far removed from his draft status/expectations right now that it's not even worth mentioning.
The word is that the Browns will offer Breshad a new contract for 2019. I think he has shown enough for them to utilize him as a deep threat to compliment Landry and Callaway.
