Good catch Irish. I missed that. Got called in to work (while on vacation) to receive a chemical tanker that never showed up. Was catching up on reading the boards and guess I left the brain at home.

Were Brownsfans this excited sfter the 2007 season?

  3. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

I was "encouraged" but not as excited. Why? Because Baker Mayfield >>>>> Derek Anderson.

Truth be known, this entire core group of players > 2007's (with the exception of Joe Thomas).

Agreed. I was "hoping" DA wasn't a mirage, like I thought he was, but with Baker I am confident we are for real, and have a team that is legit.

    Very different feeling.

We're one good decision (coach) away from title contention, and from there......

Anderson regressed (If I remember correctly) through the season as the INT's piled up as teams caught on to his game. Mayfield basically has only improved as the season has gone along. I have a much greater sense of potential yet to be seen with Mayfield.

He had 1 more interception in the second half of the season than he had in the first half of the season.

One can never see too many screen passes rifled to the turf or air mailed by a qb who lacks touch.

Mayfield is great. I was wrong about him early in the season and have been saying so since I watched him play out this year. His confidence, moxie, durability, and skillsets reminds me of a young Big Ben (albeit a slightly smaller one). Hopefully he will not be undone by the same confidence and moxie that led Ben to make a slew of career impacting decisions after super bowl wins which have haunted him the rest of his career.

With all the concussions and headshots these quarterbacks used to endure, I have to wonder if that has been a factor in Ben's demise as well. He is close to leading the league in interceptions, many of which have caused losses, so I don't much care if he is about to become the 6th or 7th QB to throw for over 5,000 yards and set a single season Steelers passing TD record this year.

Not to digress, as this is a thread about the Browns and Mayfield, - the future is very bright for this team. If you get Mayfield more offensive talent around him, the sky is the limit imo.

Actually, this isn't a thread about the Browns and Mayfield. As stated in the thread title, it's about the entire AFCN. Fans of all AFCN teams are more than welcome to offer up their opinions.

I'm really hoping that Mason Rudolph starts next year (or definitely by the year after next) and has the same chemistry with Washington that he had in college. JuJu will gel with any QB because he is that good. AB is getting too old, acquiring too much baggage, and is becoming a little more of an injury-risk. Let him play out his contract then walk. That's the Steeler-way with receivers and it has worked. I'm looking forward to hopefully the Steelers drafting another JuJu in the next NFL draft and then having a seamless transitioning out of AB when the time comes.

Teams are starting to worry more about JuJu than AB.

I wonder if them browns improvment will finally be the end of marvin lewis. Afterall they now look to be the bottom feeder for the division. I get the browns fans having some excitement but I think they are overlooking the Ravens that defense of theirs is nasty.

I, for one, am not overlooking the Ravens' defense. They are, in fact, legit. But we haven't even started discussing the defensive side of the ball yet.

Marvin Lewis just got the axe.....

    Bengals fired coach Marvin Lewis.

With the Bengals since 2003, Lewis was the second-longest-tenured coach behind just Bill Belichick, surviving 16 seasons despite a 0-7 record in the playoffs and losing seasons in each of the last three years. Despite those playoff disappointments and how the run ended, Lewis' tenure has to to be viewed as a success. He helped transform the Bengals from a laughing stock into a yearly playoff contender, leading the team to the same number of playoff appearances as they had in the 35 seasons before he got there. While his coaching days are likely done, it is possible Lewis pops back up in a front office job in 2019.

With all of the firings today (current count is 8), it probably pushes the odds of the Browns next head coach already being on the sidelines in Cleveland significantly higher than it was 24 hours ago.

hear the owner wants adam gase.

Possibly, but I have a hard time believing that they would bring in a head coach that has personality differences with the star wide receiver that the Browns have signed through 2022.

Given the manner of how much BS already was reported about the coaching search.

    Click bait. Nothing more.

I still think it will end up being either Gregg Williams or Bruce Arians. (Adam Gase may be a darkhorse)
