Which has some truth in it but it is a business of acquiring assets and leveraging for better values, so I'm confident that they are weighing all possibilities trying to find the best avenue for the organization (more so than the player). This is probably where the conversation differs the most. Foles has already mentioned his biggest preference may be to remain in Philly. He has given zero indication that he is in a rush to leave and every indication that he will patiently wait out the process and work towards his best option, which may simply be to stay in green for one more season if possible. Not picking up the option and cutting him results in the same thing (Foles off the roster) and they can still pick up the option and cut him after for a cap hit under $2mil. The '5th day of the league year' language in the contract forces both sides to make that decision within that window (from now till that date). The Eagles can either give Nick permission to negotiate a contract in an effort to deal him or Foles can pay the opt out to hit the market. I'm not trading for Nick if I am any of the teams in need of a quarterback, but I'm not signing him to a long term deal either. Foles, IMO, is going to be one of the most overrated commodities to potentially hit the market at that position. If I'm Foles, I'm not signing a one year prove it deal unless it is the absolute last option available and if it is, I wouldn't be surprised if he simply stayed in Philly for 2019 (provided they pick up his option). And the conversation may change some (from me) at that point (making the playoffs). It could definitely sway a GM or owner into wanting to pay out a larger amount, but I think the length of the contract is going to be the bigger sticking point for Nick. He's going to want a situation where there is some kind of commitment to him before he even laces them up, and multiple years on a contract shows that. It could be that money becomes the deciding factor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took more than $2mil over what Philly could keep him at to lure him away on a one year deal. I apologize but I'm missing the question here. Can you elaborate for me? (haven't had my coffee yet) Again, I don't see your thought process here. Can you put this and the above together, because it seems like you are suggesting another team will be offering up $22mil so that Nick can pay his $2mil opt out and break even cash when he signs his new deal. My point was that a team could offer up a pick/picks to secure the rights to Foles long term if he ends up with the kind of hot market you think he potentially could (deep playoff run?). That creates an assurance for Nick that this team is buying into him as a starter (combination long term deal and willingness to part with assets). Because everything I am reading from Foles suggests his first preference would be to remain in Philly if he can't get a contract with some years on it elsewhere. I think it will be dependent on the length of the contract, but the Osweiler deal may be the exact reason his market is not as hot as what some may suggest (unless Philly makes it in and he wins another playoff game). We're probably looking at Jacksonville, Denver, maybe Miami/Tampa and Washington being the prime players in this year's QB raffle. The only team that would likely pay an unreal sum to land Nick would be Washington and that would be dependent on a buyout of Smith's contract. I don't believe Tom Coughlin would sell the farm for Foles in Jacksonville, John Elway can avoid that move buy rolling with Keenum as the bridge and going back to the well in the draft and both Miami/Tampa would likely retain their current options over sinking a large contract into Nick. Basically, I don't see a large market for Foles, or the kind of contract being available that I believe he is looking for, so most of what we are discussing is probably useless talking points but I like shooting the shit with you regardless so, yeah, your turn, lol.
Im thinking, Case Keenum as an example. Great season with the Vikings, but didn't fit the future. He was fortunate to get a good deal in Denver, but they went no where. Lots of guess work involved and crap shooting. I also agree that the Eagles, as far as 2019 is concerned, maintain Foles and Wentz... you never know what will happen to a starting QB and it still is the most important position and the most difficult to maintain, in my opinion. Best if you have an 'ace in the hole'.
People tend to forget Foles' personality and what he went through, especially with Fisher. He almost quit football. Instead he stuck around but with familiar people in KC and Philly and for less than elsewhere. He was in a bad place mentally. He also wants to be a pastor. It f he doesn't get a deal he thinks is good for him mentally and financially he may just stay with the Eagles or retire.
This is part of where I am coming from with the idea that he is going to want some kind of real commitment from a team. Something where he knows they are invested enough in him as a starter to make it worth leaving Philly. Yep, I agree with you 100%. The Eagles have an opportunity to keep Nick in place for little to no risk. It doesn't make a lot of sense for them to just let him walk if they can work something out by picking up his option and negotiating. Even if he opts out, it doesn't hurt them anymore than not picking up the option would.
Baker Mayfield breaks Rookie TD record held by Payton Manning and Russell Wilson with 27 TD passes...
Baker took a 0-16 team to a 7-8-1 record, even though he didn't become starter until week 4.. Barkley turned a 3-13 team into a 5-11 team Baker should definitely be the OROY!
If I had a OROY ballot with 5 names it would be: 1. Baker Mayfield 2. Saquon Barkley 3. Phillip Lindsay 4. Calvin Ridley 5. Pull out of a hat: Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, DJ Moore, Sony Michel, Kerryon Johnson and an offensive lineman or two for good measure.
Baker wasn’t the only upgrade to the team...he certainly isn’t the only reason they won 7 games. Before Baker took the field they looked like a team that was gonna win 5 to 6 games anyway based on how the defense was playing at that time. Barkley is just one of 3 rookie running backs to have 2000 yards from scrimmage. Mayfield’s season was really good...but so was Barkley’s. This award, in my opinion, is strictly an individual award and the records of the teams they play on should be moot. I’d give a slight edge to Barkley but wouldn’t disagree with either player winning. But the deciding factor can’t be the W/L records.
Eagles QB Nick Foles needed to play 33% of the snaps on the season to get a $1M bonus for making the playoffs. He played 61 of 71 today, thanks to his injury. He falls 4 snaps short! He had 357 of 1,092 and he needed 361. Eagles probably find a way to make it up to him somehow. Probably if they pick up his option.
Mayfield is one of only 3 QBs to have 26 passing TDs his rookie season, then he won the record outright with 27, despite having 2.5 games less playing time than the other two.
He’s definitely deserving. He was outstanding. I’d give the nudge to Barkley but it’s hard to argue against Mayfield. All I was saying was team records shouldn’t factor in to the conversation.
Mayfield should have beaten the Ravens, then I would say he outright deserved it. But fuck him, he threw an INT when you were so close to winning it.
Love the Browns when the Stihlers could beat up on them...hate them when someone else beats them. Take care of your own bidness and you won't have to worry about the Browns and Mayfield.
Bruised ribs... Eagles quarterback Nick Foles left Sunday’s win over Washington with injured ribs and said after the game that he hoped to be ready to play against the Bears in the Wild Card round, but that tests on Monday would provide more of an idea about his outlook. The initial reports were that Foles suffered bruised ribs and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Monday’s tests have confirmed that diagnosis. Based on those results, the expectation is that Foles will be in the lineup against the Bears on Sunday. If so, it will mark his fifth straight postseason start for the Eagles. Foles was their quarterback for a Wild Card loss to the Saints after the 2013 season before returning to the team last year and leading them to three wins and a Super Bowl title after Carson Wentz tore his ACL. Wentz’s back injury is the reason why Foles is in the lineup this time around. Wentz has not been placed on injured reserve and the Eagles haven’t formally ruled him out of action, but there’s no sign that he’s getting a green light to return to action in time for this weekend.
