No, it's in OUR past...this is a Patriots problem now.. Only trolls want to look up posts from the past for a player not even on a team anymore... Are you a troll?
I think he's going to lose about $40k (pair of game checks) but I don't there was language written into his contract that would void the entire thing if he were to fail another drug test. IMO, the Patriots knew that at some point there was disciplinary action coming down on Gordon but they were desperate for a receiver and figured the price of a 5th to guarantee that Josh ended up in New England for at least a few weeks was worth it.
Wait a minute. Are you suggesting that Gordon failed a drug test BEFORE he was released by the Browns and everybody, including the NFL kept it a secret? With his history?
No, but I am suggesting that he may have been in violation of the alcohol abuse program that was a part of his reinstatement and it's a completely different thing for the league to navigate before handing out a suspension. I only mentioned the drug test part because I don't believe there was any kind of offset language in his contract that reflected past behavior, or else it would have probably been reported on when Gordon signed. It's something that I found interesting at the time and makes a bit more sense if the Patriots were aware that a possible suspension was already forthcoming.
I was in high school with Andrea "Little Orphan Annie" McArdle. Had some world class athletes who attended my high school either a few years before me or a few after: G Jim Cooper, K Florian Kempf, and NBA'ers Cuttino Mobley and Kyle Lowry. My Spanish teacher was Alex Ely, who's in the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Fair enough. But in one of your earlier posts, you specifically mentioned drug test. "I think he's going to lose about $40k (pair of game checks) but I don't there was language written into his contract that would void the entire thing if he were to fail another drug test."
Why is it okay for people to post when they were right about something from the past but not okay to point out when others were wrong?
Like I said, it stood out to me at the time and it makes more sense in the context that the Patriots went into this knowing that there was a possibility they would lose his services anyway for an infraction of his reinstatement guidelines.
This is a fascinating situation, then, specific to his contract with NE. If they signed him to a contract that would still pay him out regardless of disciplinary / attendance issues, then yeah, that is some level of desperation, there. The only real important point here, and why I asked, is how much Gordon is motivated by having another check in his bank account - and what he feels is a necessary ceiling / floor. Going to be interesting to see when he decides it's time to come back.
I can't remember who all was involved in the conversation but it revolved around the possibility of Gordon being suspended because of his violation of the alcohol portion of his reinstatement. This may have something to do with that situation.
He wouldn't have been able to collect his game checks if he were suspended, but there was nothing written into it for New England to recover any of his contract if he failed another test (to my knowledge). Although looking at it again, I don't believe he had any prorated money or potential bonuses so that language may not have even been considered.
In all fairness, BWW . . . I don't recall any Browns fan claiming that Josh Gordon wasn't a troubled individual. All they were claiming is that he was a very talented player and, if he could avoid his demons, could contribute to the Browns' WR group. Turns out they were right, afterall.
Nor do I. Which is why I never made that argument. No one ever disputed his talent. It was ranking him ahead of proven NFL wide receivers and justifying it by using his stats from five years ago that was a problem. I said that was silly. Turns out I was right, afterall.
Why do we care about when they were right? Conversations are relevant to the present, but rehashing a single poster, whether right or wrong, is a waste of time. Now, if there is an entire conversation had about a subject, then going back and discussing it again would be interesting. I am POSITIVE there are plenty of posts that have been made by dline in his past that he was wrong about, do you really think it would be a good use of time starting a thread to discuss it?
There were at least a few Browns fans, at the start of this year, confident that he had overcome everything and was going to be a year-long contributor for this team at the same level as he performed early on. He was being counted as a definite contributor at that level. It was being said that he was purposely avoiding Hard Knocks in order to take care of his mental health, because he was ready for and serious about the upcoming season. Plenty of unsubstantiated twitter posts flying around, etc. Were there fans here that tempered their statements and enthusiasm? Sure. But we both know there was plenty of the opposite going on. I don't want to fixate on it. I just want to point out that expectations for Gordon should've always been highly skeptical, at absolute best.
I don't care. I just think it's wrong to accuse him of being a troll simply because he pointed out someone was wrong. That's not being a troll. As long as it's not my time, yes.
