OK SAS, I'm stepping away from the cliff now. Thanks.

That is re-affirming to me, since what I most like about Mayfield is his learning curve. He's already looking like a 2 year QB with but 12 games played and 11 started. He shows improved understanding every game IMO. Nice to get some statistical re-inforcement, for what my eyes tell me.

    Glad to hear it.

Also keep in mind, Williams has this team at 4-2 since taking over. Those two losses were against the 11-3 Chiefs and the 10-4 Texans, both of whom are headed to the post season and leading their respective divisions.

Hue and Haley found ways to lose to two really bad teams in overtime (3-11 Raiders, 5-9 Buccaneers), but their other losses came against 12-2 Saints (1st), 11-3 Chargers (t-1st), and 8-5-1 Steelers (1st).

I'd say a 1-31 squad losing to the best teams in their respective divisions is (and was) expected.

Caviat: The following is my opinion. Visitors to this board are more than welcome to disagree but you will not change my opinion.

Since 2016, there have been a total of 38 quarterbacks drafted into the NFL. Of these 38, 13 are either currently starting or have started more than 2 games for their respective teams and 5 of those 13 were drafted in 2018 (all in the 1st round). That means that almost half of the starting QB's in the NFL have 3 years or less experience.

Using the eye test only and taking into consideration a QB's surrounding cast, there is only one of these 13 young guns currently performing at a higher level than our own Baker Mayfield and that guy is Pat Mahomes. One of things I considered is "does he elevate the play of his surrounding cast"? (In Mahomes' case, this aspect is a mute point - his supporting cast is already pretty damn good.)

They may be good, but Mahomes is still elevating their performance.

Even Mason Rudolph would be winning games with that offense.

I believe Rudolph would win with our lineup. Nobody can make some of the stupid throws Ben makes. Ben keeps our opponents in the game.

I agree, they should cut him right away!!

Wouldn't Rudolph need to be active for at least one game to say that?

I missed Paxton Lynch. So make that 14 who are currently starters or have started at least 2 games.

I think @Lyman's point is even more impactful when considering the circumstances, too.

Mahomes took over the 5th overall offense in 2017, led by sixth-year head coach Andy Reid (20 years of head coaching experience overall) and who's offenses have been Top 10 nine of those 20 seasons. An offense that featured Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and the former rushing title holder, Kareem Hunt (oof) and who added Sammy Watkins in free agency. They are now the 1st overall offense in 2018.

Tyrod Taylor took over for the 32nd overall offense in 2017, led by third-year head coach Hue Jackson (11-44-1 lifetime) who's offenses have been Top 10 twice in nine seasons. An offense that featured rookie Antonio Callaway, mercurial receiver Josh Gordon, free agent Jarvis Landry, second-year man David Njoku, rookie left tackle Desmond Harrison, and free agent running back Carlos Hyde. Taylor lost his job to injury, Hyde was traded, Josh Gordon was traded, Harrison was benched, and Baker took over in Week 3, despite zero preseason reps with the ones. The head coach and coordinator were fired Week 9. And now the Browns lead the NFL in yards per play (7.0), are the top team in the NFL in red zone efficiency, Mayfield is one of the top performing quarterbacks, regular guys like Higgins, Perriman, and Ratley look like legitimate NFL receivers, and the team is 4-2.

Oh, and Nick Chubb leads the NFL in rushing yards since the switch, too.

#6 quarterback, #1 running back, and #1 offense for rookie Baker Mayfield, rookie Nick Chubb, and rookie play-caller Freddie Kitchens.

And the offensive line is, *checks notes*, #1 since Week 9 as well.

Agreed. Mahomes is the only player in the NFL that I'd even consider trading Mayfield for, and I still wouldn't do it....Baker and Patrick are going to take over the AFC for the next 15 years or so. These two guys are going to have a lot big games squaring off against each other.. Not unlike Manning/Brady....

If anything, Rudolph should be active this week, right?

    Josh Dobbs > Mason Rudolph

(And I'm not just saying this to trigger @Tim)
