He has his faults. He gets too aggressive, he misses tackles, he puts himself in “no man’s land” too often. But he also makes some great tackles, he’s a ball hawk, and he’s big and smart and rangy. And this... Ed Reed? Probably not. But he’s pretty fucking good and I’m glad he’s ours. And he was a steal.
I didn't like this pick when it was made. He hadn't played in a long time due to injury, and I thought there were other prospects on the board worth selecting. Given that there was so little to go off of, I was expecting to add him to our mediocre bunch of safeties, over the years. I was wrong. Yeah, buddy.
A few very good plays does not make a career. Hell, he may be added to the pile of two year “we have a good safety now” guys. But I see something different in him. I think we’re good.
He's ball-hawking. In a 3-4 base, you need a FS who can read the play, and use his instincts to make plays on the ball. Especially with the amount of single high we're playing. I wish to god he made a batter decisions week 1. But truth is, that lesson probably taught him a lot. A lot that were seeing the benefit of now.
When he misses tackles I get as frustrated as anyone, but man, he has a nose for the ball and he is all over the field. I like Amos quite a bit when he got a chance to start too and he fizzled out after a while....and yet, he's still a solid starter. Of the needs on this team, I'm not putting either Safety super high on the list.
Eddie Jackson named NFC Defensive Player of the Week Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson can now call himself an award winner in 2018. The league announced on Wednesday he won the NFC's Defensive Player of the Week award for his efforts in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions. It is the second time in his career he has won the award. Chicago has now had a Player of the Week award winner for three straight weeks. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky won the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week Award back in Week 10 for his efforts against the Lions before kicker Cody Parkey won NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11 on Sunday Night Football. In the 23-16 win on Thanksgiving Day, Jackson helped seal a Bears victory by returning a Matthew Stafford interception for a touchdown. He finished the game with three tackles, two pass deflections and the one interception for a touchdown. It was his second defensive touchdown of the week after he returned an interception for a touchdown just days earlier against the Vikings. He has scored three defensive touchdowns this season. Jackson has now scored five defensive touchdowns since the beginning of his rookie season in 2017. No other player in the NFL has scored more than two defensive touchdowns during that stretch. Jackson has shown off impressive vision and instincts all season long and has proven to be a valuable part of this defense. Chicago took Jackson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft after his final season at Alabama was cut short due to an injury. He entered that training camp a bit further back on Chicago's depth chart before quickly taking over as a starter. He started all 16 games last season for the Bears, putting to rest concerns over his injury. He racked up 73 tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions, one forced fumble and produced two defensive touchdowns. While players like Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks have garnered a lot of attention for Chicago's big showing on defense this year, Jackson has been a stabilizer in the back half of the field for the Bears. He has the ability to play up near the line of scrimmage to slow down the run but is at his best when asked to be a rangy safety for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. He can match up with a player out of the slot, cover the deep half of the field or roam around as a ball-hawking safety. On his interception of Stafford, he was able to show off his incredible instincts and break on the ball. Jackson baited Stafford by staying back off the target before pouncing once Stafford put the ball in the air. Because of how well he read the quarterback's eyes, Stafford had no chance of completing that play. The young safety will have a chance to show off again this Sunday when the Bears take on the New York Giants in Week 13.
Bit late to this one. I never liked the Ed Reed comparisons, he was such a phenomenal player it just wasn't fair. But i think you're well entitled to claim credit for calling this one bear-man, cos i remember you being high on Jackson early on, much earlier than me for sure. Its fantastic how well that draft pick is panning out. Anyone would be right to be wary, especially after all the false dawns at the Safety position basically since Mike Brown. Hell i thought Al Afalava could be a guy early on. But i agree, there does seem to be something more to Jackson. He seems to be in the perfect spot to succeed too.
Thanks for the credit. Much appreciated. And DEFINITELY - he’s in a position to succeed, as was Reed. Al Afalava... oh man. How far we’ve come. Let’s enjoy this ride ladies and gents.
Yeah that's what I love about you guys. Face it we're never happy. You guys could nitpick position by position, (and I don't mean that in as a slight) but I remember not too long ago we all bitched about how we weren't getting turnovers. Now the Bears are not only getting turnovers but taking them to the fucking house, and we still find something to bitch about. He isn't perfect, but damn shouldn't we be grateful he's on our team after what we've been through at that position? Go Bears!
^This. I look back at the game threads from the first few games and think about how Trub was trashed when in fact it could well have simply been game nerves. But then again, it's one of the reasons why I find you Bears dudes so entertaining, you're always bitching about something
