If the Avs falter a bit in the WC and become sellers, then Barrie could be the star of the deadline ball. Denver has a few youngsters ready to push for his job. (Girard from NAS in the Duchene trade, and Cale Makar are both going to be great.)

I've seen him play a bunch - most recently last night. I know he'd look good in blue & gold. He'll be coveted by just about every team. Really the point isn't so much that he's good. The point is Denver could move him because of org. strength.

Barrie would look like a good addition to a PP unit. The leafs wouldn't have any use for him, they need a shutdown guy. At $5.5M and one more year, he looks like a good fit for the sabres.

Dahlin with a goal and an assist, he has to be in the Calder picture. Sabre's on a roll.

Dahlin is everything written about him. Just wait until he grows up.
I think he'll get Calder consideration, but E. Petersson is just special. If he stays healthy I think he will win easily.

Meanwhile, 5 in a row and 9-2-2 since Oct. 20. Those 5 wins came against some excellent talent. And, each game required a come back; some get-up-and-go gumption.

TEH Phil is making a lot of good decisions.

It's fun again to be a Sabres fan! (Well, truth be told, it's always been fun - it's hockey after all. Now it's enjoyable again.)

I was curious about Ullmark getting the nod, but it worked out in the end.

I can understand the enjoyment factor. Last year wasn't enjoyable being a Nuck fan. This year, other than a slew of injuries, some exciting talent is playing. Hockey is great.

Carter Hutton may have been J. Botterill's best off season move (other than winning the lottery), and he made a few decent moves.

Huts absolutely deserves credit for at least 2 of the last 5 W's. He stole the game vs. TB, (by rights, that was an L). He did the same Fri. night in WPG. The team looked like last year in the first - except for Huts.

But, Linus Ullmark has been properly developed and everyone has complete confidence when he gets the start every 4th or 5th game. He is 4-0-1 and has a great attitude for a backup.

Huts is not only stealing wins, he's also a major positive presence in the lockerroom. That change in whatever-you-wanna-call-it team attitude is probably the key reason behind their improvement.

You may recall that I was a bit of the voice of dissent when people projected the Nucks for close to 31st place this season. I think their young talent is outstanding.

I love it that they're a year ahead of where I thought they'd be. They could stumble this year (they're extremely dependent on that young talent, and they're in the WC). But, their future is bright.

Meanwhile, the two teams that'll celebrate their 50th anniversary just have to play in Stockholm in 2020. By then close to 25% of BUF's roster could be Swedes, and EP will be a perennial Hart candidate.

One of these days I'm going to figure out this game you humans call hockey, one day.
