skinny why are you bashing the flyers when your team hasnt even PLAYED in a Cup final since the 60's. the flyers lost the cup in 76, 80, 85, 87, 97 and 2010 and have more playoff wins than everyone but Montreal or some crazy stat like that. what the fuck has Toronto done for being the #1 wealthiest NHL franchise and worth the most money? fucking zilch. you gave babcock all that money and where is your Cup? you got all these players and still zilch. pretty big talk for not winning or even sniffing the cup finals before i was even conceived or my old brother was born pal.

Will jumps in with the Red Wings, who swept the Flyers in 97, so yes, the Flyers have 2 Cups. injuries killed them in 76 from having a 3 peat. Bob Nystrom being off-side cost them in OT in 80. Gretzky and the boys smoked them in 85. Injuries killed them in 87 and still took the greatest team to game 7 with a rookie goalie after our real superstar died in a car crash in 85. Detroit killed us in 97 and the coach quit on the team and injuries, coaching and kimmo timmonen giving pat kane 15 feet of open ice cost them in 2010. So at least you Cup wins in the last 30 years, but the Flyers still went to more finals than Detroit since Toronto's last Cup win. After seeing Detroit now and their empty seats, i have more faith in the Flyers then the Red Wings right now for their next Cup.

 

Not bashing them, I was just making a point. The heart of the fanbase is rooted in that era of the broadstreet bullies and the two cups.
They won the cup two years in a row, (74,75), thus the two cups.
The day will come when that fanbase won't be around anymore and you should start working hard now to create the next generation.
Anyway, me being a leaf fan doesn't begin and end with a stanley cup. They had great teams in the 70s, 90s and the last couple of years.
The cup won't make me watch one more game.

 

you couldn't be more wrong on their fan base and saying it's from the 2 cup era teams and the broad street bullies. no one calls them that anymore. that era is over and done with. they moved on from that after lindros and the legion of doom left. once they got rid of jody shelley and don brashear, the goon era was over in philly.

look at their attendance, sell-outs and merchandise sales. their fan base is filled with younger kids that were born in the 90's and 2000's. they're just fine. the old guard are out home under their blankets. the younger fans, who can afford their ticket prices at $169.99 a ticket, are taking over.

 

And don't think I forgot about Salming getting jumped and those court dates in the summer.

Look how the pendulum swings in this league. A california road trip was always feared just a couple of years ago. The only team worth their salt now is san jose.

 

Paying veterens on your team and watching them age and slow down is dumb. Just because they helped you win a cup is no reason to sit idly by a watch the ship sink.
