While his firing hasn’t been discussed it looks like Harbaugh has hit te end of he road in Baltimore. He’s good until th end of the season. Since his tenure was tied to Flacco, it would appear to be a complete regime change for 2019. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...rting-of-ways-in-season-firing-not-discussed/
At this point of the season, if Harbaugh has nothing left to play for I doubt we can expect many more wins this season. Flacco too. Even if Flacco's heir is apparent, who do they go after to replace Harb's? Some of these guys come to mind: Josh McDaniels - I said for years now that the Ravens have tried to copy Belichick's model and for a time they had success. Getting BB's biggest apostle will help them do just that and once BB retires, we have the next best thing...potentially. Chuck Pagano - We were all upset when Chuck left and hoped he'd keep our high standards for defense. He hasn't coached since 2017 and had a cancer scare, but he could be ready to come back home healthy and ready to roll. Joseph DiFillipo - He's a young, talented OC with complex schemes and would be the second coach Baltimore pilfered from Philly. He has SB ring and did it with a back up QB. Teryl Austin - Another former Ravens coach and current Lions OC, he's been interviewed for 10 vacancies since leaving Bmore. Dan Campbell - Campbell was nearly HC in Indy until the Josh McDaniels fiasco. His coaching tree goes from Sean Payton up to Bill Parcells. He also was under Philbin in Miami and took over as interim HC when he departed going 5-7 in hot mess of a team that started 1-3. College coaches: Lincoln Riley - Ohio has had a great rep. He may not get lured away to the pros, but one never knows. He's an offensive genius and could give us a winning attitude and new look offense that we've lacked. Chris Petersen - With nearly two decades as an offensive coordinator and head coach at Boise and Washington, Petersen has proved to be a top-notch offensive strategist. He transformed Boise State from a non-entity into a national power. OTHERS???
Why McDaniels? He’ll accept the job then after a quick phone call or text, he’ll just change his mind and suddenly decide to extend the lease on his current apartment.
Wouldn't trust McDaniels to follow through. Pagano would be interesting, but the Ravens really need someone with an offensive mind. Austin was just fired again. Not sure how many more HC opps he will get. Not even sure sure how moany more DC opps he'll get. he might have to cut his teeth in college before he gets another NFL HC opp. DiFillippo (OC with the Vikings, not Eagles) is, IMHO, the kind of HC the Ravens should be looking for. Young, offensively minded, and understands the 21st century NFL. Others to consider - Matt LaFleur- offensive coordinator Tennessee Titans, Zac Taylor- quarterbacks coach Los Angeles Rams. If a defensive mind is what they want, then: James Bettcher- defensive coordinator New York Giants- George Edwards, defensive coordinator Minnesota Vikings, Jim Schwartz - defensive coordinator Philadelphia Eagles. I would not be adverse to a college coach. Along with Riley & Peterson I'd also look at Matt Rhule- head coach Baylor, David Shaw- head coach Stanford University. I also think Campbell would be an interesting and another outside the box choice. Another out of the box choice would be Mark Helfrich- OC Chicago Bears and former HC at Oregon.
Preach it! I love this and hope it is the path for us. I also am tired of old NFL retreads and think it is time for a whole new fresh sheet of paper for the playbook and a new innovative mind to design plays to fit our personnel rather than drafting players that fit an old tired offensive system.
Kirk Ferentz is a guy that pops into my head as a possibility. He used to coach on our team during the Belichick/Marchibroda Era if i recall right. He has had Iowa very competitive over the years and may be ready to get back into the NFL. He has an offensive mind and knows how to whip an offensive line into shape to boot.
