There is also the shady option that he doesn't sign and the Steelers agree not to tag him again. Steelers don't pay him and can get a comp pick while Bell moves on.

I agree...It's just the cloud hanging over on how the locker room will react if he signs... After everything he has done thus far, it wouldn't surprise me if he came up lame with an "injury" that limits what he can do the remainder of the regular season.

That wouldn't shock me at all either.

According to a report on nfl.com if they tag Bell again next season it will be at the QB rate regardless of whether he reports this year or not.

Yeah, more than likely he gets the transition tag, not the franchise tag... That will cost normal money, but give them a chance to match if someone signs him to a normal contract, not something extravagant. Some team will sing him to a front loaded contract they can't match though.

And if some team does sign him via the Transition Tag . . . then no comp pick in return.

I wonder if they will even bother with the transition tag. If no team signs him they are on the hook for around 10 million which could be used elsewhere to improve the team and as Lyman pointed out if another team signs him and the Steelers dont match they get nothing.

So the Minnesota Vikings sit at 5-4-1 and Kirk Cousins is playing like Kirk Cousins - a guy who consistently led the Redskins to around .500. I'm not an avid Vikings fan so I haven't seen every snap but I do see that Cousins still struggles to complete passes over 20 yards and on the rare occasion he does the Vikings actually score points (31 vs LAR, 37 vs Jets, 20 vs Saints). According to NextGen's aggressive passer stat Cousins is 30th out of 34 ranked QBs. So he's playing Kirk Cousins football.

So.. what team is going to sign Bell?

The only team dumb enough has to be the Raiders.

my brother in law, who is an old-time steelers fan, says look at james connor behind that O-Line. he's doing pretty well. so was Bell really that good or was the O-Line really that good or a combo of both ? to me it was both and bell is a talented RB. He's leading towards, it's the O-line as Connor has come out of nowhere to replace Bell like he was never there. To me, i wouldn't want to just lose Bell for the hell of it.

i hope Philly makes a run for him somehow. im not a fan of running back by committee.

The hot take of hot takes. The Denver Broncos are making the playoffs. Now watch them lose to Jeff Driskel after winning 2 games no one had them winning.

His last three games have not looked as good as his first 9. Could be teams are focusing on him more or it could be something else. Even with all his success 3 times this season he has averaged less than 3 yards a carry something Bell only did once in the past 2 years. He has also already fumbled 4 times on 235 touches compared to Bell's 3 on 406 touches. I doubt the eagles will be able to afford him Bell is about to get paid. Now whether that leads to success for his new team will remain to be seen. Yes the steelers line is good and did help but Sanders proved you can have a successful career behind an average line. Much to the regrets of several of my fellow steelers fans Bell will perform in a new uniform.

well using barry sanders isn't fair to connor bc sanders was the best ever. imagine if he had a decent o-line or the 1990's dallas cowboy line ? wow. to me connor is very good so far, but bell is a lot better. no knock on connor, just i think bell is a great athlete and running back.

There is only one thing Bell is better than Conner at, and that would be ball security. Bell just doesn’t fumble, Conner already helped us lose two games with fumbles. If Conner didn’t fumble in those two games we are 9-2 right now.

Gid-who do you think is better overall -- Bell or Connor without adding in the O-line debate ?

  18. gidion72 Legend Steelers

Conner is faster and can outrun defenders better. Bell is a better receiver, not by much and the fumbling is a big factor. Both of them benefit from the offensive line. I don’t know that if Bell had showed up week one that it would have improved our record. Our opponents have to defend the run equally no matter which one is there. But if you want to talk about who’s worth the money then I would say Conner, seeing how he doesn’t make a million a season and Bell would have made 14.5 million. I really don’t know if Bell would help you guys enough to warrant paying him the money he wants.

Also I’m pretty sure that the Eagles would never spend that kind of money on a RB. Remember you will have Wentz to extend next offseason. I mean after 2019. He is going to cost a minimum of 30 million a year. I just don’t see the Eagles reorganizing to get Bell under the cap. Would hurt their team too much.
