It sucks, but if you asked me if I would be ok with a split against the jets in a home and home, I'd say yes

No snl either, I think I'll end up watching baseball.

Look at this, CBJ with 3 unanswered goals, 4-2 jackets.

Sabres net a point in the standings after coming back from 2 down in the 3rd to force OT.

On the road against a good team - with Torts on a warpath - CBJ was gunning for a win. The Sabres are playing a steady never-too-high and never-too-low style. All in all, the loser point is decent compensation.

Hawks up 1-0, if they win they'll be 7-3 and back to relevancy.

Hocks have played well this young year. Ice and heat for the old dogs on defense.

That'll be a good start, they're paying top bucks to kane and toews, no turning back.

The east will be really interesting as the flyers, panthers, rangers and red wings are struggling out of the gate. The canes, devils and jackets will make it real tough for them to sneak back into the race, not to mention the habs.

Ok, sens don't make the playoffs, I'll stand by that. Wings really affected by the loss of zetterberg and tatar trade.

funny thing is - Ziegler was not the NHL Commissioner. He was the NHL President. The only Commissioner the league has had is Bettman. I saw that as a trivia question and couldn't believe it.

if the ax doesn't fall on dave hakstol's head soon, the flyers fans may riot. no idea what the ownership group and hextall is doing. to me they need a new front office, scouting department and reboot. this team can't win and won't win. their farm system is highly overrated and their coaches are just not that good. call it a reboot or tanking or starting over, but major changes need to happen in philly. cutting holmgren from operations, hextall as gm and hakstol as coach are 3 easy moves to make for starters.

No real answer to why the switch happened except that every other sports league has a Commissioner, and Gary Bettman wanted to be called Commissioner rather than President. It seems to be as simple as that.

The historic reason why sports leagues have Commissioners is that at one time the National and American Leagues in baseball were separate entities each governed by a President. After the Black Sox Scandal there needed to be a combined organization that not only governed both major leagues but also baseball's minor leagues. That was the office of the Commissioner of Baseball.

Other leagues formed at around that time also had Presidents. The NFL and its predecessors had President's until 1941. The officer of the Commissioner of the NFL attempted to bring all professional football leagues unset a single authority. However by the time the fourth America Football League was founded in 1960 the league had a Commissioner, so it seems that by that time the title of Commissioner was preferred over President.

The National Basketball Association had a President until the title was changed to Commissioner in 1967. There seems to have been no reason for the change.

The National Hockey League was founded in 1917 - before the creation of the post of Commissioner of Baseball. The first president of the NHL was Frank Calder who ran the President's Office almost entirely on his own (he had two female secretaries in his office). The title of President was retained by his successors, Mervyn “Red” Dutton, Clarence Campbell, John Ziegler, and Gil Stein. The name of the position changed to Commissioner when former NBA Deputy Commissioner Gary Bettman (boo) was elected to the post. (Quora.com)

I forgot about Gil Stein, he was only there for a year. President or commissioner, they hold the same job description.
