i was shocked Mike Bossy wasn't on the list. He has 2 seasons of 60 + goals.

out of the real guys to score 70 goals or more in a single season, who was the oldest and how old was he when he scored 70 goals ?

Rocket Richard scored 50 goals in 50 games only once in his HOF career. How old was he when he scored 50 in 50 ?

    Good question Cat........

    Was it Mike Modano ???

  13. Catfish Guest

no. he was one of them, but not the first. here's a hint -- the first one is not bobby carpenter either. he did a lot for Americans, but was not the first US #1 pick.

Funny thing about Modano...he told the Stars he wasn't ready to come up when they wanted him too. He felt he was not ready and spent another year with his junior club. Well it worked to a Calder Trophy, over 500 goals and a future place in the HOF.

  14. Good Question Cat.........I'm stumped it it's not MM ???

try and dig deep in the early 80's.

  16. try and dig deep in the early 80's.

I do not want to cheat and google it........so I will leave it for someone else to try.

I will do a guess though.........the Hint is early 80's.......Americans won the Gold Medal at Lake Placid.

My 2nd guess is Jim Craig (G).......I believe he was drafted by Atlanta ???

  17. Catfish Guest

no. good guess though. he signed a big contract, but i think he was a bust. i know Neal Broten had NHL success from the 80 team and Ken Morrow went from winning the Gold Medal to 4 straight Cups with the Islanders. Talk about luck. I think a few others got a NHL shot, but didn't last long.

Bobby Carpenter - drafted by the Caps. I'm not sure if he went first overall, but he went very high in the early 80's. Was on the cover of SI and a decent but not spectacular NHL career.

Brian Lawton was a #1 pick and I'm pretty sure he's Murican. Unless Bobby Carpenter went first, I'm going to guess he has the distinction. He was a glorified journeyman in the NHL.

Brian Lawton is correct. Carpenter went 3rd overall from HS.
