I mean, I’ll kill Hue for a lot of things and I don’t see him here long-term... but I’m not going to blast him for this loss.

Hue is SO awful...It's just brutal how his team finds ways to lose.

I hate when they show his big clueless face on the sideline.....always that look of complete bewilderment....:wall:

    DAMN!!!!

How many f#@!ing penalties can we get??? Has anybody ever seen anything like this? Absolutely atrocious.

Does that not fall on our coach at some point? smh....

4 OT games in our first seven. That is amazing..

I really think the Cleveland Browns are a good team, with a dolt for a coach.....That said, WTF did we do to the football gods for us to get every single possible call against us?? i mean seriously, is it just me? There was like 5 phantom calls that were SO crucial in that football game, and every damn one of them goes against Cleveland...It's just bullshit. And it's like this every week. Ridiculous..

I actually was rootin' for the Browns today. Sitting next a B's fan at a few points. He left crying. It is football people. Hue is an awful coach.

The Browns offensive line is horrid, the receivers are from 7/11. I feel sorry for Kirksey (mebbe no e), he gave it his all.

I didn't watch the game except for the last 2 minutes off and on but it would not surprise me at all about the calls.

I've seen the look of bewilderment you describe on Tomlin's face a million times but he has Big Ben to make up for it when Ben isn't pulling Big Dumb shenanigans. The Browns could've had Big Ben too if they'd have drafted him - he was right there for the taking. Which brings me to my next point....How many quarterbacks and star offensive players in this league have been passed up by the Browns on draft day for picks that didn't pan out? The Steelers have a Kevin Colbert to help with that some but it was the elder (RIP) Dan Rooney who demanded they take Ben when Cowher wanted to pass on him. I think you can have a dunce for a head coach and still experience success in this league if others are making up for him (ours is more of a cheerleader than anything else, as Bradshaw basically says). The Browns just seem to not have much of any great leadership from top to bottom but that's just my perception.

I for one expect that to change with Baker Mayfield....

    Just two wins.

The 2018 Cleveland Browns have a different look. a different feel. They've gone to overtime four times in seven games. They've held the lead or been tied in the fourth quarter in six of those games. Defensively, they entered Week 7 ranked sixth in the league at Football Outsiders in terms of DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average), and through seven outings they lead the NFL with 20 takeaways.

And yet the Browns have won just two of those seven games after again falling short despite an abundance of opportunities to beat the self-destructive Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday in Florida.

The league's most penalized team was flagged a ludicrous 14 times against the Bucs. One of those—a hold on offensive tackle Desmond Harrison—put the offense in a hole before it had run a play on what was eventually a three-and-out to start overtime, while another—an offside on linebacker Genard Avery—gave the Bucs a free first down on the game-winning drive.

Ultimately, seven of their 14 penalties came in the fourth quarter and overtime.

It was par for the course, and it spoke to the job Browns head coach Hue Jackson has done at preparing his young team for critical moments.

Against an imploding, slumping opponent that just fired its defensive coordinator, it shouldn't have come to a long-distance overtime field goal on Sunday. This was Cleveland's game to win.

Ditto for a Week 1 overtime tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers, when the Browns became just the fourth team this century to fail to win despite going plus-five in turnovers (penalties and a missed field goal in overtime did them in).

And for a Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints, when they missed an extra point that would have given them the lead with just over one minute left and allowed 18 fourth-quarter points.

And for a Week 4 loss to the Oakland Raiders, when they turned the ball over four times and inexplicably ditched hot running back Nick Chubb late as they choked on a 28-14 lead.

Mayfield hasn't been perfect, but those charged with supporting him have done more harm than good. He was bound to experience growing pains while transitioning to a pro-style offense, but those pains have been magnified by poor decisions on and off the field.

As the future of the NFL's hungriest franchise, Mayfield is generally exceeding expectations, but Jackson and the Browns have completely wasted his encouraging rookie campaign.

Different look, different feel. Same old Browns.

I missed quoting the post but in response to "takeaways are nice, but how about we stop them from scoring" post, I saw an NFL writer say "I just talked to a DC who believes that forcing the turnover is more important than stopping the score due to how the rules are set up" (paraphrasing).

My first thought was Old Greggggggg.

It really doesn't matter who they hire to replace Hue Jackson.

I am asking sincerely, is this a sarcastic retort to everyone asking for Hue's head or do you really want them to start over? Genuinely curious of your thoughts.

    I'm wondering about that, too.

Hue Jackson won't be the coach here in 2019, that much is obvious. But is firing him mid-season really the best move for the team? Interim head coaches historically do not fare well. The presumptive replacement would be Todd Haley, but I don't like that for a number of reasons - chiefly among them is that it would negatively impact Baker Mayfield's development.

Today, he gets to work with Haley much more closely, but if Todd has to worry about special teams, the defense, the media, players' concerns, front office meetings, etc., then the logical conclusion is he cannot spend the same amount of time with our rookie quarterback.
