Packers great Jim Taylor dies at 83... Jim Taylor, a Hall of Fame running back best remembered for his role on Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers, has died at the age of 83. Taylor was known as a fierce competitor who would run over, around or through an opponent, and he won a league MVP award and played on the 1966 Packers team that won the first Super Bowl. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1935, Taylor played his college football at LSU. He was a first-team All-American in 1957, and the Packers chose him with the 15th overall pick in the 1958 NFL draft. At first Taylor was used sparingly in Green Bay, but when Lombradi arrived in 1959 he turned Taylor into a workhorse back, and by 1960 Taylor led the league in rushing attempts. Lombardi was partial to the “Packers sweep,” which he famously diagrammed on a chalkboard describing “a seal here, and a seal here,” with Taylor’s job being to “run this play in the alley.” Taylor ran in the alley enough that in 1962 he led the NFL in rushing and then led the Packers to a 16-7 win over the Giants in the NFL Championship Game at Yankee Stadium. By 1966 he had become the league’s top rusher (thanks to the retirement of Jim Brown), and in Super Bowl I he scored a touchdown, which he characteristically credited to the offensive line. “It was just good blocking on a weak-side sweep play,” Taylor said. “It’s a cakewalk when you get the blocking. It was just like we had been doing the last five or six years.” But if Taylor was happy with his offensive line, he was increasingly unhappy in Green Bay, and after playing on a series of one-year contracts Taylor refused to sign the option deal the Packers were offering him. “I liked to play the game,” Taylor recalled in a New York Times interview in 1982, “but I also was a man trying to provide a comfortable living and a good future for myself and my family. I remember going to Vince Lombardi when I was at my peak and trying to negotiate for more money. Lombardi was a tough negotiator. And why not? He held all the cards in the deck. I’d say, ‘Well, I was all-pro for these many years, and I think I deserve such and such.’ He’d say, ‘Well, we’re going to pay you this amount, and if you’re not happy, Jim, then go play out your option.’ He knew, of course, that playing out your option and trying to sell your services on the free market in football was just about impossible. The owners banded together and wouldn’t make a bid.” When the expansion New Orleans Saints began play in his home state, Taylor saw his opportunity, with a new owner of a new team who would want to sign a hometown star. It was almost unheard of for a player in those days to leave one team and sign with another, and the Saints were forced to give the Packers a first-round draft pick as compensation for signing Taylor away. But Taylor got his wish of going home, and he also demonstrated that a player could negotiate just as hard as management did. Taylor, then, will be remembered both as an all-time great player on the field, and as a player who was smart enough off the field to recognize the value he brought to a team. Taylor was ahead of his time. (NBC's PFT)
Cat do we have to go over this again? I thought I explained it clearly a couple years ago and now that your team has had it's revenge on the Pats I would of figured you'd move on from being jaded over the McNabb Puke Bowl game. Anyway we'll do this one more time because I have a bit of time before this Sox game and College football is pissing me off again today(bad year with da man) So let's see if I can help you with this again. Brady had moved from the 4th QB on the depth chart to #2 on the depth chart in a single year. Although Bledsoe signed the deal before the 2001 season, Belichick said in a 2011 interview Brady was close to beating out Bledsoe coming into the season. Is he revising history? Either way it is well known the BB and Wiess loved Brady's leadership and decision making, ALOT, they just weren't sure if he was physically ready yet.(He did come into the league @ something crazy like 180lbs). Pats were down 10-3 at the time of the Lewis hit, they lose that game they are 0-2. Now BB wasn't considered what he is now at that point, still he wasn't afraid to make a controversial decision. Ask Browns fans how it went over when he cut Kosar for Testaverde or when he pulled Testaverde for Zeier. Anyway, it is possible that they make a move in another game or two if the Bledsoe led offense kept sputtering. Would it of been to late to make a playoff run in 01? That's possible too, Pats had a pretty good overall veteran core in 01 though. You keep railing on the 10year contract that Bledsoe signed before the 01 season, What you completely miss is.....his 10-year, $103 million contract was structured in a way that gave the team an option during the 2002 offseason: Pay him a $7.2 million bonus to pick up the rest of the deal or moving on from the veteran. So it was going to be Brady's job much sooner then your maybe coulda shoulda woulda happened theory. I'll conceded that MAYBE if Bledsoe doesn't get hurt in the Jets game the Pats don't get the first one vs the Rams, after that, things would of played out essentially the same.
If anyone wants to participate in the Politics boards, they would get permission. If I asked to participate on the BFF board, what do YOU think the answer would be. That's the difference, Ace. Do you agree or disagree with that assessment? Yeah. That's what I thought.
Anyone should be able to talk politics if they want. What would you need to talk about on a bord dedicated to a fantasy league that involves just Bears fans? I disagree with your bullshit assessment and your head in ass logic. The problem is you don’t think.
Just to clear this up so we can move on from this subject - The Bears, Browns, Cowboys, Ravens and Steelers boards all have users that have been denied access for various reasons (along with some general boards including hockey, baseball and fantasy football). All of the posters that have had privileges removed from those boards did so after it was clear that their only intent and purpose in posting in those sections was to harass the regular posters. There is a long and undistinguished list of people that have been denied access to different areas of this site for violations of the ToS or for simply being a constant pain in the ass. Most people come here to talk sports with fellow fans of their favorite team and when someone decides that their sole reason for being here is to harass those fans then they are simply denied access to that part of the forum. If they drag it out into the regular boards then they are no longer welcome anywhere on the site. This thread is dedicated to Will's NFL News and Notes. It's one of the most popular threads on the entire site and is the first one I end up checking in on every time I open the forums. To be perfectly honest, I'm bored with reading the back and forth about who can do what where and why. I'm ready to go back to seeing the latest updates on all things NFL and getting back to the open discussion that members from every fan base on this site engage in. If anyone has any questions about this subject please feel free to direct them to me in a private conversation.

My three favorite match-ups for this week - 1. KC @ NE This is my favorite game for this weekend. We get to see just how good the Chiefs really are or, possibly, just how far the Patriots may have slid from last season. 2. LAC @ CLE The Browns have a chance to put together their first win streak in forever and the Chargers have to win in order to remain in the hunt for the playoffs even at this early of a stage in the season. I expect this game to be real effing chippy all the way through it. 3. CAR @ WAS This could be the game that defines the season for the Redskins. If they cannot get a win at home against Carolina there may be no chance at being in the mix against the Eagles for the NFC East late in the season. The way these two teams pair against each other should make for an interesting ball game.
All good. You can put that little fella behind the 5 already there. And the swill behind the Sam Adams. Cheesesteaks, I'm in. Big one tonight.....GO PATS!
