The NHL didn't do Florida any favors this year. Besides their back-to-backs in Finland, they get two games in the same time frame that everyone else gets 4. The Panthers play their second game tomorrow night, and third on Saturday. Most teams will have played at least 4 or 5 by that time. So, when the team is flying across oceans and time zones, or playing numerous back-to-back's as the season begins to lead into the playoffs, the Panthers will remember their cozy, cushy two weeks with little action... way back at the start of the fucking season. Well done, NHL. Well done...

Florida takes on Columbus tomorrow night with Reimer in net, Juho Lammikko making his first regular season NHL appearance in place of the injured Mackenzie, and Cinderella story D-man Jacob Macdonald will make his second NHL appearance / start, after netting the team's only goal in his first game (with his first shot). KHL transplant defender Bogdan Kiselevich is making a fast recovery from a 40-stitch jaw fracture after plate surgery. His timeline to return might put him back around the same time as Lu, maybe even sooner.

How about the start for Brindemour and the Canes... 3-0-1. Oilers are going to have to do something drastic, like blame and fire the coach.

 

Coming into this season, Carolina looked improved enough to potentially grab a wild card spot. They'll have to fight Columbus and NJ, but one has injuries, and the other over-achieved last year. With a good start already, I'm still of the mind that they're a wild card team. It'll be interesting to see how the EC plays out - so far, they're kicking the West's behind, based on head-to-heads. As an EC team fan, would've really loved to have seen the West hold their own...

If it helps, Tampa, NJ, and Edmonton have all only played one game as of today, I think. So, Florida's not the only team with a wacky schedule. But being sent overseas during the season doesn't help. Bettman has to answer to more than one team's gripes...

Yup. Stepping down two years before the team, with optimistic estimates, is ready. Easy to see, because of the timing.
