***LANE JOHNSON IN JEOPARDY OF MISSING TONIGHT'S GAME WITH A HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN *** Carson Wentz better run for his life now ! The injuries are piling up in Philly. Howie better draft some linemen next April !
It dawned on me that we just may be witnessing a true changing of the guard in the NFL. The way its shaping up, it wouldn't be a stretch to see four of the eight division winners with a QB still playing on his rookie contract. Mahomes (Chiefs) - AFCW Wentz (Eagles) - NFCE Trubisky (Bears) - NFCN Goff (Rams) - NFCW And three of those four won their divisions last year, as well.
I thought he was extended but, I may be wrong. If not, then that's five out of eight assuming the Titans can dethrone the Jags!
It was picked up but it's for next year. As for Bortles, he is on his 2nd contract but the current year is the cheap restructured year on the 5th year option. As for the other rookie contract QBs... well too soon to really follow them yet.
Giants don't get their first game ever with a player with 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving. Barkley held 1 yard short and then the Giants bench him on the last drive because they don't believe in celebrating that achievement with a blowout loss.
Carson Wentz throws three touchdowns as Eagles roll to 34-13 win over Giants... The Philadelphia Eagles looked like a team capable of defending their Super Bowl victory on Thursday night against the New York Giants. Carson Wentz threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles cruised to a 34-13 victory over the Giants. Philadelphia jumped on top quickly as Eli Manning was intercepted on the second play from scrimmage by linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill. Three plays later, Wentz hit Alshon Jeffery for a 13-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead. It was an advantage they’d never come close to relinquishing. While the Eagles were cruising up and down the field, the Giants offense could barely do anything unless Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham Jr. were making defenders miss in open space. But boy did Barkley look special in his chances for the Giants. He had over 200 yards from scrimmage and scored on a 50-yard touchdown run for New York’s only touchdown of the night. Barkley carried 13 times for 130 yards and a touchdown and caught nine passes for 99 yards for the Giants. He was one receiving yard shy of becoming just the second player since 2011 to have a 100-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game. Todd Gurley rushed for 118 yards and had 158 receiving yards for the Los Angeles Rams against the Tennessee Titans on Christmas Eve last year. After Jeffery’s early touchdown, Corey Clement scored on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter and Wentz hit Zach Ertz for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter as the Eagles built a 21-6 lead around a pair of Aldrick Rosas field goals for New York. Jake Elliott added a 33-yard field goal for Philadelphia with 1:29 left in the first half to give the Eagles a 24-6 halftime advantage. Wentz and Jeffery connected again on a 1-yard touchdown to push the lead to 31-6 on the opening drive of the third quarter. Barkley would get into the end zone on a terrific run bouncing a carry backside and running by Nigel Bradham and Rasul Douglas for a 50-yard touchdown to make it a 31-13 game. Elliott would later add a 30-yard field goal to cap the Eagles victory. Manning completed 24 of 43 passes for 281 yards with an interception for the Giants. Rosas’ two field goals were from 33 and 21 yards. (NBC's PFT)
Why do NFL teams keep hiring Pat Shurmur to be head coach? His Giants are lifeless, undisciplined, and they look exactly like his Browns did. Which looked exactly like his Rams did... The easiest prediction I ever made was that the Giants will suck this year....
I live in NYC and a co-worker (Jets fan) and I was telling another co-worker ((NYG fan) that the Giants would be lucky to win 6 games this year. The dude was furious and wasn’t having it. So far so good.
I know they weren't good last year either but there was a lot of chatter about how this was gonna be a quick easy fix, and Shurmur was gonna right the ship in a hurry...smh. You have an ageing QB who is showing obvious signs of diminishing skills, and you pair him with the worst HC of all time....That's a recipe for disaster. I don't care how good your rookie RB is....I mean, Eli was benched for GENO last year! Then they hire Pat, and he immediately proclaims that Eli is still among the very best, and they expect to get 2 or 3 more solid years out of him....
They got OBJ back, they added Saquon, they brought in some help at at O-line (Solder, Hernandez)...but damn, that team looks just totally disinterested.
I did some snooping and you're correct . . . Mariota is still on his rookie contract. As is Jameis Winston, but, I don't think we have to concern ourselves with the Bucs winning the NFCS this year.
