This week we get Walt Anderson. We don't see him very often. Going back to 2003, when he became the head Ref, we've only seen him 11 times. The Bears are 6W/5L with him at head ref. The Dolphins are 9W?5L over that same time with him as ref. With that, there have been a few memorable games: 1) 2010 Redskins @ Bears - This is the game where Cutler threw 4 picks to DeAngelo Hall. This is also the game where Cutler ran a goal line sneak where he reached the ball (clearly) over the goal line. It was then knocke out of his hand. Even though the ball broke the goal line plane in his posession, it was ruled a fumble. We lost 17-14... That play was a difference maker. 2) 2012 Packers @ Bears - I call this "The game that got Lovie Fired". The Bears finished 10-6. The last loss of the season was to the Packers at home. If we win that game, we finish 11-5 and make the playoffs (over the Vikings who also finished 10-6 but had the tie-breaker). 3) 2013 Bears @ Packers - We actually won this game. This is the game where Shame broke Erin Rogers collar bone - which should have been enough to end the Packers season and propell us into the playoffs. But no. Later in the season Tuckers D fucked everything up when (playing @ home against the Packers) Pepper sacked Rodgers, the ball is fumble forward. None of our "well coached" morons picks up the ball. Instead, Boykon does, and runs it in for a TD. Bears lose. We finish 8-8. The Packers finish 8-7-1 and win the division... Anderson and his crew also are famous for one of the worst series of bad calls in Monday night history. The Bills were playing the Seahawks. Right before the end of the half, the Bills line up for a 53 yard FG. Richard Sherman jumps completely offsides and clobbers the bills kicker. He doesn't even go for the ball.. He hits Carpenter in the leg so hard, he stays down. This brings the trainer out. Unbelievably, instead of calling a personal foul or roughing, they ONLY call the offsides. So the Bills get 5 yards. Now it's a 48 yard FG kick. But because the trainer came on the field in the last few sesonds of the half, Anderson charges the Bills with a timeout AND decides that Carpenter has to take a play off and refuses to let him kick the FG. So the Bills have to bring their RB on to spike the ball. On the next play, as Carpenter is now in to kick the 48 yarder, Anderson is setting the ball at the new LOS, the play clock goes off. He makes the FG. But they blow the play dead. Incredibly, even though it was Anderson holding up the snap, they call the Bills for a delay of game and hit them with a 5 yard penalty. He then misses the FG. Let's hope Anderson doesn't botch shit up this week.
Buddy at the office has good endzone seats to the game, under the covered portion of the stadium, and is willing to let them go for around $200. I'll be at FL Panthers games for two of the next three nights. Driving down to the Dolphins stadium from my place is a real bitch and, covered or not, being outside in the South Florida heat next to all those mouth-breathers... I'm trying to decide if I should pony up and go, or watch from the comfort of my house, with my alcohol and food. Input is welcome. I just got a promotion, so I'm not poor, but society and the US Govt still doesn't consider me as having broken into middle-class, depending on which figures you use...
Having only ever been to 2 Bears games, both in Detroit, I’d say never pass up a chance to see them if you can.
You should go D-line. I've only been to 3 Bears games in my life and 2 of them have been in the last five years when they've played in DC/Baltimore area where I live. I'm sure there will be a ton of Bears fans there anyway and you'll feel at home.
I don't get to go to that many games but like dline I really can't afford them that often because I still owe money to the money I owe. I really need to get to more games because all they do is win when I do go.
Ask Mongo whenever I sat in his seats they won I forgot the first game but the last game was against the Vikings a couple years ago and won on a last second field goal. I was at the Christmas eve game last year with my grandsons yeah it was only against the Browns but still. I went to the game last week against the Buc's and witnessed 6 TD's.
Ah, you guys are starting to push me off the fence... we'll see... 3 hour drive each way, in 95+ degree heat, 100% humidity, and in the midst of a busy schedule... But you're right, the opportunities are very rare, and the opportunities to see them when they're good even less so. If I can con someone into going with me, that might just be where I'll end up.
No. Mainly because they don't play there....although they did a few years ago. And also....I'm not paying for the flight from Guadalajara.
I'm betting there will be an equal amount of Bears fans there. Or was that who you were referring to?
