He first discovered the Bahamas and cuba on his first voyage, they say puerto rico on his second. I guess his voyages let everyone else in europe in on the fact that there was land if you sail far enough out west.
Totally discounting the native tribes that were already here is kind of racist. These were human beings too with famalies and traditions. They had their own languages and own way of life. The europeans came over and murdered them, took away their land and culture. History books totally discounts them as just being a nuisance.
