ok back to movies, which is what this thread is for. THE PREDATOR (2018) - could've been really good, but it was kind of lame. no where near as good as the original. not buying the kid being able to figure it out either. he's no Rainman ! Olivia Munn is totally miscast here. Keegan-Michael Key was funny as hell. the CGI is ok, but it could've been much better. bummer. C+
Blackkklansman. thank God i saw it for free. i thought it was going to be funny. it wasnt. kind of stupid and it's a true story. i expected better from Spike Lee.
Billionaire Boys CLub. wow the true story of the startup of a company built on lies, false bank accounts and greed that led to the murder of 2 people. very good. i know this is a remake of the version from the 80's. needed an older cast. the actors seem to be too young to play their counterparts although they are the same age in real life. they seemed too young. due to the kevin spacey allegations, this movie made only $126 dollars in it's opening night across the country in theaters. wow. that's low. people and fans turned on him quickly.
Just finished watching F 11/9, good movie. It's not a total trump bashing movie, it focuses more on how corrupt the system is. The drinking water in flint and how Obama played them. The way the DNC was all fixed to favour Hillary over Sanders. The biggest party in the US are the 100 million non-voters. Maybe Canada should annex parts of the US.
i finally brought myself to watch Moonlight, which won Best Picture Oscar over La La Land, which lead to a misreading of the envelope on Oscar night. Wow, the movie is a 3 part movie, which even the movie tells you it's in 3 parts. all 3 sucked. it's like a bad Lifetime Movie and not a Best Picture Oscar Winner. And M.Ali, who won every Best Supporting Acting award that year is barely in the movie. He's in part 1 and they never tell you what happened to him in parts 2 or 3. that alone was terrible. this movie was all about the Academy smoothing over the masses from the Oscars having all white nominees that year or the year earlier. No way should this movie have won Best Picture. It's not that good, nor was the story telling. It's very choppy to follow. C-
HEREDITARY I'm not the biggest horror fan, but I like ones with good story or a different angle. This has a bit of both. Lots of surprises. You won't be sure where this movie is heading, but it's worth following. Toni Collette navigates these dark waters well about a family struggling with the past and present (don't wanna spoil), and a house with secrets. The vibe is almost like The Shining where direction and sound create an atmosphere instead of cheap thrill kills. Gabriel Byrne is a welcome face, but forgettable. These people go through a lot of tragedy and history, with some curveballs. Well Done. Grade: B
FIRST MAN - Spoiler How do you ruin a movie about the space program and a Neil Armstrong biopic? Let the guy from La La Land make the movie. First hour of the program is way too fast and jumps over many key points of the NASA program. Second half is okay but the camera shakes too much and looks like it's filmed by an amateur. second part omits a huge point with fans of sticking the flag into the moon's surface. the ending is hokey as well. should've been a lot better. wasn't. another letdown from Damien Chazille. C+
Operation Finale - B+ Spoiler movie is very good. great performances by Sir Ben KIngsley and Oscar Isaac. I wish the movie had more drama. it all comes very easily to them. still very solid overall. they even use the real camera footage of the trial at the end to see the real Eichmann. good stuff.
VENOM - Spoiler not as bad as i thought. i saw it for free. tom hardy makes it tolerable and so does the voice of Venom. by the end i lost track of who had the virus vs who didn't have it and how did michelle williams get it? no idea. kind of a silly movie. i laughed though.B - A Star is Born - 2018 - Bradley Cooper's passion project. he took singing lessons for 18 months and took 6 months of piano and guitar lessons. his character mumbles a lot so it was hard to understand him. Spoiler movie is so predictable and i never saw the other versions. no way in hell she would be that famous and he decline that fast. where was his manager in all of this? where were his band mates ? and is Ally rock or pop ? she sings rock with cooper but they make her into a pop star? Why is that guy hanging around Cooper's tour but tells her he's an agent and manager? of who? Cooper? No way he tells Cooper he's not wanted on tour with her and that no one will touch him after the 1 incident at the Grammys. musicians rise and fall and rise again. he's still famous, he would come back. no way he's done. i do question Cooper's directing at times. very quick to cut out of a scene. seems inexperienced. overall it was decent. thank God i saw it for free. cooper, lady gaga and surprising turns by Sam Elliott and Andrew "Dice" Clay of all people were great. i think Cooper and Gaga get Golden Globe, SAG and Oscar noms and perhaps one of the 2 for best supporting in Elliott or Clay. Gaga is very solid in the role. She can certainly act and can sing her ass off. B+
On the flight to Jakarta: Three Billboards...very good. The Catcher was a Spy. Eh. The Bleeder. Story of Chuck Wepner. Not bad. Inception.
