He's got a hammy. Not sure how playing a 35 year old with a bad hamstring helps this team long term.... One more tweak and he could be out for a while. I suppose it shows how desperate they are. I think Callahan stays in the slot on Nickel and Fuller is on Fitz.
My bad, I should have clarified that in 2013, Bruce Arians and Fitz reinvented his game and now he's the slot WR, which paid dividends when he began to decline on the outside. 2015-2017 he caught 100+ passes for 1000+ yards from the slot. Obviously Arians retired, and Wilkes/Mike McCoy run some things similar and some different. From the offensive drives I saw week 1 (3 and outs because Sam Bradford is not accurate) against the skins, they alternated Fitz as WR2 and slot with Christian Kirk, with Chad Williams being their WR1. Gresham was out and looks like he'll play this week or he's just full practicing to get up to speed, but Ricky Seals-Jones at TE and David Johnson obviously in the backfield. So on paper it shakes out with Fuller on Chad Williams, Prince on Kirk/Fitz, Callahan on the other when Arizona runs 3 WR sets. Mike McCoy also likes his 2 TE sets and can do that again with Gresham likely returning, and I expect Mack to get chipped by their blocking TE, Seals-Jones. Even with the hammy issue in play, Callahan draws Fitz when Fitz lines up in slot. I think that's advantage Cardinals, and on a day where he's healthy, a major one, even with the old man at 35. I wondered if Fuller/Prince is just going to shadow him the whole game or will Fangio just bank on Callahan taking on the 35 year old with hammy issues when he's slot, not WR2?
I guess he has his quota in for this season already. Tell me what you guys think, this looks to be a perfect example of Trubisky in panic mode and leaving the pocket too soon. It looks to be a nice pocket, and it appears he had options available but instead he bailed. Hell both edge rushers were knocked on their asses at about the same time. He would of had all day to find a throw and instead took a sack.
I’m not going to say that Mitch sees the field well, but these GIFs don’t show much in terms of open receivers. I see a lot of dime coverage and nowhere to go. But I am also drunk. So there’s that. Re-analyze tomorrow.
I think the 2nd one does, but my point was he bailed too early, and that he really doesn't seem to have much pocket awareness on this play. While in his drop he did have two guys midfield just past the sticks, but doesn't seem to pick them up. The one guy I can understand he didn't have a clean lane in front of him, but whomever it was on the left hash was wide open. At some point you have to trust your protection, and it's possible they haven't earned that trust, but this sack is clearly on him because had he stayed in the pocket he could of picked up an open receiver 25 yards downfield on the left whom was covered but creates that separation when he puts on the brakes and comes back.
On the first play it’s 4th and 10. Game was in the balance and that post is misleading. It shows the end result and not the full play. Mitch held the ball for 4 seconds before he was sacked. Instead of stepping up and giving it a shot to Robinson down the left sideline he slides back and to the right. Right into Perry’s path. All in all I don’t like the play call. They only needed 10 yards and you send everyone deep. Nobody in the middle of the field with over a minute left and 2 time outs. The entire 2 minute offense was a shit show with multiple fuckups by Mitch. On the second play again it’s misleading. Trubisky slips as he is trying to scramble for the first down and is touched down for no gain. They credit that as a sack. But your point is spot on he takes off when he could have passed to Cohen or Burton. They only needed a coupe of yards which they pick up on the next play but he needs to pull the trigger on Burton for the first here. The Good news is this was two games ago and I felt Mitch improved in that area last week. He wasn’t perfect but improved. Now if he can complete a pass down the field like he did a couple of times in this game maybe we are on to something. He has shown the ability to do it all the right way just not consistently.
Yes. Leno was credited for a sack-allowed on that play. You can argue Trubs held it too long. But Leno does have 1 SA this season as of now.
I think that Leno has shown slow but noticeable improvement since he's been here. Wish I could say the same for Massie.
Yeah I can agree with that 312,... ...but I've been on a see-saw when it comes to Trubisky. On one hand I think a lot of that has to do with where he was drafted, and the fact that the Bears moved up to get him. On the other hand I consider his relative inexperience in school, and he's forced to learn everything at a much faster speed at this level, and he's been forced to run before he's even learned to walk. While many say he has had to learn two offensive systems in two years, I don't really see that as a problem a hindrance maybe, but certainly not a problem as he has seemed to put in the effort and grasped that shit. He just seems gun shy in the pocket, and while he does seem to wait too long for that perfectly safe throw while he is in there, at some point he needs to find balance between the two and improve his decision making. Once he develops that comfort level and balance in the pocket he can become the QB they expected to draft, because I know this kid can ball. It's just been frustrating because I see a Baker come in and save Thighrod's ass Thursday night and look more like a veteran than a veteran. Fuck it! Show me something this week Mitch, Go Bears!
I think when it comes to Mitch, his whole life everything came easily. He was a HS legend in Ohio, and at NC had one good year. Right now I see him almost like a cross between Rex Grossman and Matt Stafford. I say Stafford because Trubisky throws the ball from all sorts of arm angles. He has poor mechanics as far as I'm concerned, which with his athletic skills he was able to get away with at the HS and college levels. Then he reminds me of Grossman in his general hesitancy, poor footwork and the such. I don't think his confidence is all there. I haven't written him off at all but I can't help to worry about what I'm seeing from him so far.
A co-worker told me that he has friends that went to school with him and that he wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree, but I don't see it that way at all. That's why I said he's had to learn to run before he can walk, because I know his confidence isn't there at least yet. There is too much thinking and not enough reacting to what is in front of him. It seems he is his own worst enemy, but it is so unlike the times with the Mad Bomber or Cuntler who would throw first and think later he seems to be stuck on thinking and not reacting and trusting what he sees. If and when the day comes he finds that balance and finds comfort in the pocket his confidence will follow, because he does have the tools, but IMO he can't yet process the speed of the game at this level just yet. I believe that day may still yet come if he can ever find that balance.
I expect to not only for the Bears to win this game, but win big. Which leads me to think this could be a trap game. Nagy has already shown he won’t keep his foot down and has let both teams back in the game late. Seattle was an onside recovery away from making that one a lot more interesting. Hopefully this one is a blowout early.
Nagy has the training wheels on Mitch. He's not pushing the ball down the field, just running the John Schoop short passing game trying to protect Mitch. Hopefully they can come off in the next few games.
Peckers down by 11 as well. By the end of tonight the Bears could be.... you know what, F it. Not even gonna say it.
21-3 Redskins and 27-0 Buffalo. Unbelievable. Not sure the first would qualify as a trap game, but the second one sure would. Now I’m a little worried.
If the Vikes and Packers lose and the Bears take care of business...week 1’s 4 quarter choke job looks that much worse because the Bears could be sitting in really good position in the division.
