https://sports.yahoo.com/seau-new-documentary-traces-nfl-tragedy-154624359.html documentary on Junior Seau airing. wow. i didn't know he had this much turmoil in his life. wow. sad.
But, if you factor out ALL the guys who were not ahead of him over the course of 3 seasons, you will see where I am getting at. Every year, there are new names that insert themselves into that top 20, but they don't stay there. Tyrod is the constant...
Yes, but they may never be ready... Tyrod got a mediocre team to the playoffs last year. He didn't flash, he just did. You know what, I'm too busy feeling good about Baker right now... You guys can continue to debate why Tyrod is over/under rated. He isn't my starting QB any more. I was just giving the reason WHY these outlets have given him the under rated moniker.
So your point is he constantly kinda sucks? But sucks a little less than some guys. That's what I gather.
No, he didn't. Tyrod was on a mediocre team that got lucky and made the playoffs last season. There was no point in the season where anyone looked and said "Boy, Tyrod is really carrying that team". Aaron Rodgers has taken mediocre teams to the playoffs. Literally carried them there.
The Bills wanted to keep him for multiple years on reduced salary because they didn't want to blow it up and gamble on a QB they didn't know while they had some talent. I'd argue they made it to the playoffs despite him. He just managed the game good enough to not keep turning the ball over. He was the only serviceable QB on the roster since Fitzmagic. Too many players left the team this offseason. They'd be better with Tyrod now but didn't care because they know their current window of success is shut and they are getting the next gen started. McCoy could even be dealt soon.
Actually, this is EXACTLY right, believe it or not! Isn't that what constantly mediocre means? It's still better than below mediocre, which is what many teams have consistently. Until Baker Mayfield, I would STILL be excited to have Tyrod as our starter...but Baker changes all of that
No shit, that's exactly what I have been saying for the past 2 hours... I don't think I can have a conversation with you any more in the future. Don't be offended if I just don't answer any of your posts. I already stated he isn't going to carry any team, the team needs to win, but he will not lose games for you, where many other QBs do. That's EXACTLY what I have been describing. It's the essence of mediocre.
I think that's a bit disingenuous. You have a number of teams who have drafted new QBs (Dallas, Philadelphia, LA Rams, Houston, Chicago) who can't go back 3 years. Look at it from the other side - who exactly has Taylor consistently outperformed over the past 3 years? For every stat in which he might have out-done a Blake Bortles or Marcus Mariota, there are other years or other stats where he DIDN'T. And there are at least 15 QBs who have out-statted him pretty much across the board the last three years.
But you said he was "ranked between 10-16 in the league in every category." That's a little better than mediocre - if it was true. But it isn't. Again - what category has Taylor been ranked in the top 10-16 each year?
Tyrod is a serviceable game manager. He won't win you games but he won't lose your games if you're have a supporting cast. That was Buffalo last year. He had a good team around him.
I would actually say he's below average. So I wouldn't agree with mediocre. I think LAOJoe is right when he says teams win in spite of Taylor being the QB.
The only person that seems to get offended by our conversations is you. But you also say the last 3 years he was a Top 15 QB. I argue he isn't. Or wasn't.
The RB committee upgraded with the addition of Chris Ivory The Guard/Center positions downgraded with the loss Incognito and Wood That's it for the offense, besides the QB position On defense: Upgraded the DE position with the addition of Trent Murphy Upgraded the DT position with the additions of Star Lotulelei and drafting of Harrison Phillips Upgraded the LB position with the drafting of Tremaine Edmunds Everything else remains status quo What exactly do you mean they lost so much this off season, besides Tyrod Taylor, Incognito and Wood? Everything else they did SHOULD upgrade the team and drafting Josh Allen in the top 10, SHOULD upgrade the team to a playoff winner, right? He did what he needed to do, no to lose games for a team that was...meh...and that got them into the playoffs. We'll see how close they get to the playoffs this year.
You're right, I was overzealous and wrong in stating that about stat categories. Looking back when he was signed by the Browns, I was trying to talk myself into why it was a good move and I could have sworn that was the case, obviously my memory isn't clear, because I just went back and looked and you are right, he was middle of the road to bottom third in many statistical categories, relatively based on lack of pass attempts. For example he was 25th in yards and TDs, but he was 38th in attempts, so he outperformed many based on attempts. Doesn't change the reason he is talked about as underrated by these outlets, it's because he is a QB that won't lose you games. He is just good enough to not suck as bad as many others do week in and week out, like BWW said so eloquently.
They aren't gonna sniff the playoffs this year. Different year, different schedule. They lucked into some things last year...won a few tight games that easily could have went the other way...beat a few good teams that never should have lost to an inferior team. And they went 9-7...a record that most years won't win you a wildcard spot but did last year.
