i would normally say it's not having Wentz, but the defense is awful. you can't let Ryan Fitzpatrick beat you twice with 75 yard passes. sorry. and where is Michael Bennett? i thought he was a monster upgrade. he's too busy sitting out the anthem to make a difference on the damn field.
it's the same horrible defense from the Super Bowl. They are allowing everything underneath. They give a 3-5 yard cushion and the receivers use it to turn around and catch stuff underneath all day.
where's sidney jones at ? why is darby and mills still on the team ? howie needs to work some magic here !
Report: Patriots send fifth-round pick for Josh Gordon... The Patriots and Browns have moved from close to agreeing on a trade sending wide receiver Josh Gordon to New England to reportedly agreeing on that trade. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots will send a 2019 fifth-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Gordon. The teams have also agreed that the Browns will send a 2019 seventh-round pick back to the Patriots in the event that Gordon fails to play 10 of the 14 games left on New England’s regular season schedule. Gordon was scratched from the Browns lineup against the Saints on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, but Schefter reports that Gordon is believed to be healthy enough to play for the Patriots against the Lions in Week Three. If that’s the case, he’ll join Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and James White as a target for Tom Brady. Julian Edelman is set to join them in Week Five after serving a four-game suspension. (PFT)
Vikings cut Daniel Carlson, will sign Dan Bailey... After kicker Daniel Carlson missed three field goals, including two in overtime, during Sunday’s tie with the Packers, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he and General Manager Rick Spielman would discuss the rookie’s future with the team on Monday. They’ve reached the conclusion that Carlson doesn’t have a future with the team. NFL Media reports that Carlson, a fifth-round pick this year, has been placed on waivers. They also report that his replacement will be former Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey. Word on Sunday was that Bailey had turned down multiple offers since being released on cutdown day and was waiting for the “right team” before returning to active duty. As an NFC finalist last year that plays its home games in a dome, the Vikings apparently fit the bill and Bailey will join them in time to face the Bills in Week Three. (PFT)
Browns sign Rod Streater… The Browns traded Josh Gordon to the Patriots on Monday in a move that netted them a 2019 fifth-round pick and opened a spot in their wide receiver group. In their official announcement of the trade, the Browns also announced who will be filling that opening. They’ve signed veteran wideout Rod Streater. Streater spent the offseason and summer with the Bills, but failed to make the cut to 53 players at the start of September. The same was true in 2017, so his last regular season work came in 16 games with the 49ers during the 2016 season. He had 18 catches for 191 yards that year and set a career bests with 60 catches, 888 yards and four touchdowns during the 2013 season. Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, Rashard Higgins, Damion Ratley and Derrick Willies round out the wide receiver group in Cleveland. (PFT)
Washington Redskins sign WR Breshad Perriman... The Washington Redskins needed help at wide receiver and took a step Monday to bolster the group. After losing out on the Josh Gordon trade sweepstakes, Washington signed Breshad Perriman, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the situation. Perriman entered the league in 2015 as a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens, but could never put it together after spending his rookie campaign on injured reserve. In the past two seasons, he totaled 43 catches for 576 yards and three touchdowns in 27 games before being released on Sept. 1 as part of the team's personnel moves to establish the initial 53-player roster for the 2018 regular season. Washington needs to inject life in the wide receiver corps when considering running back Chris Thompson's 19 catches leads the team and tight end Jordan Reed is second with nine catches. Before signing Perriman, the Redskins worked out wideouts, tight ends and quarterbacks, Rapoport reported. Among those were wide receivers Michael Floyd and Kendall Wright and quarterback Paxton Lynch, Rapoport added. Perriman joins a wide receiver group that is led by Paul Richardson, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder. (NFL.com)
I see this as the Browns self-regressing in the WR department. I just can’t stop watching this train wreck. And fuck you Cleveland for making New England better. As a fan of a perennial contender, trust me, you’ll smoke a turd in hell for this.
Bears overwhelm Russell Wilson, Seahawks offense in 24-17 victory... Khalil Mack and the Bears defense harassed and flustered Russell Wilson to the tune of six sacks as Chicago earned a 24-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. A patchwork defense that was missing Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and last week’s starting right cornerback Tre Flowers actually held up relatively well against Chicago, but Seattle’s offense was missing in action against the Bears. Wilson has harassed all night as Mack and Danny Trevathan both stripped Wilson of the football on a pair of sacks, with Trevathan’s fumble being recovered by the Bears. Seattle gained most of its yardage in the fourth quarter as they attempted to rally from behind. They had just 80 yards through three quarters and were held to one single offensive yard gained in the entire third quarter. Mitchell Trubisky hit Trey Burton for a 3-yard touchdown on a shovel pass and Cody Parkey‘s 25-yard field goal gave Chicago an early 10-0 lead. The Bears defense sacked Wilson five times in the first half as Seattle’s offense could barely function over the first 30 minutes of the game. A 56-yard field goal from Sebastian Janikowski made it a 10-3 game at the break. Trubisky finished with 200 yards passing with two touchdowns, but was intercepted twice by Shaquill Griffin. Despite the complete offensive ineffectiveness of Seattle in the third quarter, the Bears weren’t able to extend their lead until the early fourth. Trubisky hit Anthony Miller for a 10-yard score to make it a 17-3 game. The Seahawks would finally get their offense moving as Wilson led a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive capped by a 19-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett to make it a one-score game again. However, a pick-six from Wilson to Prince Amukamara on a pass intended for running back Rashaad Penny went 49 yards for a touchdown to put the game out of reach at 24-10. Wilson would hit rookie tight end Will Dissly for a late touchdown in garbage time to cap the scoring. He finished the game 22 of 36 for 226 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. (PFT)
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...and-salary-or-will-boycott-future-inductions/ NFL better pony up some cash and health insurance or else it will be empty at the NFL HOF !
Who cares if they go? No other job do you continue health insurance after you leave the job. These guys make MILLIONS, forgo one of your Rolls Royces and instead invest that into insurance. They say thy don't want the NFL to continue profiting off their image? They use that image to continue making much more money than the common person by doing commercials and making public appearances. I celebrate what they were able to once do, but today use what you got back then to better your life in the future. Come on, where does it end? Something tells me the NFL can get plenty of celebrities to make up the difference in a few former players in gold jackets "boycotting". This weekend is about the new guys, not the ones that already had their weekend. The NFL built the NFL corporation. Players don't want to participate, don't participate, there are literally thousands of others that will and no one will notice if a select few decide not to play in the NFL. It's that simple. Without the league, these players would have had jobs selling insurance, as accountants, doctors, welders, teachers, coaches, factory workers, engineers. The NFL would have been built without some of them participating. The NFL gave them the life they shared with their families. They are compensated for the part they played...NOW they want profit sharing?? The ones coming out of college have a decision to make, sign a contract or go another route...but don't expect to come in, make millions, then when you squander millions of dollars on what ever it is you squander it on, don't come back with the open hand saying "You owe me"! I love these players for the memories they have given me, but they piss me off when they feel entitled to more.
I gotta agree with , Dawg. They should have planned accordingly and make more money than most can even imagine. Like Irish said, 'who cares if they go?' Kinda sucks that some players have to find the HOF ceremony as their platform for making demands. Just another spreading wild fire in the NFL and todays society in a large part. Everyone feels entitled. It doesn't work that way.
I've never been a fan of DeMaurice Smith. I get it that he was first thrust into the responsibility of the job even before he actually had the job. But even giving him a pass for that first year, well, why bother sugar coating it - DeMo is a clueless putz who is doing more harm than good for the players union. So I'm glad to see that there's now another entity that is capable of bringing attention to those issues. It's sad yet hilarious to see that the league's own competition committee is doing far more to push player safety than the union, and now the brand new Hall of Fame Board is doing far more to push for player benefits. Maybe this will wake the players up and get them to understand just how bad their union leadership is. DeMo did nothing but useless posturing throughout the 2011 negotiations. If we're lucky, the players will have someone else in place before the next CBA talks get too serious, and we might be able to avoid a work stoppage. But if DeMo is still heading the union, the next CBA negotiations may be even uglier than the last round.
