The Browns will release receiver Josh Gordon on Monday, the team announced Saturday...

It’s an absolutely stunning move and one that will send shockwaves across the league as the team has previously stuck with Gordon through everything. He’s battled a hamstring injury since he returned to the team earlier this summer, but had a touchdown catch in their Week 1 opener. The Browns’ statement, from GM John Dorsey, reads as follows:

“For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we feel it’s best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well.”

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has details via Twitter on the release, reporting that Gordon was late to the team’s facility today and that it was an “overall trust issue for a player already on thin ice.” Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports Gordon was “not himself” when he showed up to the facility and “there was concern that perhaps he had relapsed and was struggling with his substance use again.”

It was announced earlier today that the Gordon would miss the Browns’ Week 2 game against the Saints with a hamstring injury, although that now appears to have been made up. It always seemed fishy since he had practiced fully each day this week.

There aren’t any details at this time, but some sort of incident must have transpired to force the Browns to make this move. They’ve kept him on the roster through multiple suspensions and substance abuse related absences as he’s capable of being one of the most dynamic receivers in the game.

Gordon will finish his career in Cleveland with 180 catches for 3106 yards and 16 touchdowns. Overall, it’s a sad day as it seemed Gordon had finally gotten his life back on track and was in a good place with the Browns. (via, Yarbarker)

Report: Joey Bosa expected to be out into October...

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said this week that defensive end Joey Bosa is unlikely to play in Week Three due to the foot injury that’s kept him out of the lineup for the first two weeks of the season, but the absence may extend well beyond that.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Bosa is expected to remain out of the lineup into October. That would make his earliest return date October 7 when the Chargers host the Raiders in Week Five.

Per the report, the hope is that Bosa’s swelling goes away as he does rehab work in the days and weeks to come. If it doesn’t, surgery would be an option and Bosa’s absence would presumably extend well into the season.

Melvin Ingram and Isaac Rochell will be the top players on the edges of the defensive line against the Bills on Sunday and beyond. (PFT)

They might get a 6th. Minimum 7th. There are a lot of stupid teams out there.

“A few teams” inquiring about a Josh Gordon trade...

The Browns have announced that they’ll cut receiver Josh Gordon. But they’re not bound by that, and there’s a very good chance he won’t be cut, after all.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, “a few teams” already have inquired about a possible trade for Gordon.

Trading for Gordon and his $790,000 contract becomes more attractive for a new team than trying to sign him on the open market. Trading Gordon becomes attractive for the Browns because his status as a vested veteran would allow him to collect the balance of his pay in Cleveland as termination pay and keep whatever he gets elsewhere.

A new team via trade would stand in Cleveland’s shoes in all ways, having Gordon under contract this year along with the right to keep him through the use of a restricted free agency tender in 2019. Ultimately, however, the NFL will have an important say in whether Gordon will be able to keep playing, based on whether he has violated the substance-abuse policy.

It’s unclear which teams would be interested in Gordon. The Seahawks currently have needs at the position, as do the Patriots. The Cowboys lack a No. 1 option. A full slate of Sunday games could create other needs in other teams. (PFT)

Reports: Leonard Fournette unlikely to play today...

Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is officially questionable for today’s game against the Patriots, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to go.

The Jaguars are not expecting Fournette to play, according to multiple reports.

Fournette suffered a hamstring injury in Week One and did not practice during the week. Jaguars coach Doug Marrone indicated that he would want Fournette to be healthy enough to handle a full workload if he’s going to play at all.

If Fournette can’t go, the Jaguars have T.J. Yeldon, Corey Grant and Brandon Wilds on the running back depth chart behind him.

They may be OK with that trio: Last year, Fournette missed three games and the Jaguars went 3-0 in those games and averaged 158 rushing yards a game. In the 13 games Fournette played in the regular season, the Jaguars went 7-6 and averaged 137 rushing yards a game. When Fournette was out last year, the Jaguars were just fine. (PFT)

Doug Pederson talking about the last "private" walk-thru before the Super Bowl. Paraphrasing...

"I told them don't run anything we're using, run old training camp plays, run anything. We're not showing anything."

Of all the calls he made that week that probably had the biggest impact on their win. The Pats finally played a game and looked like they didn't know what was coming!
