gadzooks - Eagles fans are already tailgating. it's 2pm! i don't mind a little afternoon drinking in my former life, but 2pm for an 8:30 game is a little early. thank God I moved out of the city !
Today is casual day at work - in honor of the Birds SB, we're allowed to wear shirts/jerseys of our favorite team I have my Staubach jersey on. I'll be taking it off before I head to the train station.
There's definitely a lot of smack-talking on the sports talk shows. Apparently no one in the NFC East will even give them half a fight.
The shoulder and labrum were the same injury, and that was 3 1/2 years ago. A broken leg to me isn't indicative of "breaking down." He missed 3 games in two seasons because of the hamstring. Hey, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not seeing "breaking down" as yet.
Falcons update... The Falcons added a long snapper to the practice squad to fill in and practice for Josh Harris, who was just about the only "roster lock" player that Atlanta had playing in the final preseason game. Yep, he got banged up making a tackle on a punt play in that game. The team just announced the extra long snapper has been added to the regular roster. Looks like Harris might not be able to play tonight. Otherwise, the only three Falcons out with injuries are backups: Ben Garland, Isaiah Oliver and Blidi Wreh-Wilson. Garland (banged up earlier in preseason) is normally the backup center and would have been active. Best guess is that new right guard Brandon Fusco would slide to center if anything happens to Alex Mack, with Wes Schweitzer coming in at right guard.
Unlike the Falcon's O-line . . . The Browns are setting up 5 empty chairs. When the music stops, those that are sitting in a chair will get the start this Sunday.
Falcons fans already pissed at the officiating. Austin Hooper got decked in the end zone in the first quarter with no interference call, and then the 52-yarder to Julio called out of bounds and not reversed on replay in spite of what seemed to be a clear overhead view showing him pinning the ball to his shoulder.
I'd have called that a catch after the review. I get the league is trying to make it all be 100% for reversal but I think he didn't bobble it at the end just before he went OOB... unless his helmet hit OOB first, but I don't think it did.
Falcons get one back. Sullivan pulled by Falcons to touch the ball on the punt. That is a no-no but you can't challenge it.
Classic ending. The lack of preseason reps and lack of conditioning showed throughout the game on Atlanta's side. Nice idea to keep players from getting hurt, but I think they took it a little too far.
Classic Falcons? Sadly for them ya. Ended just like the playoff game too, except the Falcons got their extra play. Refs were bad all around though. That was a catch by Julio and they don't know how to officiate punts.
The other game-changing blown call was not calling interference on the 3rd and goal play when Hooper got decked in the end zone in the first quarter.
That was a spectacular catch by J. Jones... they have to get those calls right. There's no excuse for this incompetence.
Awful game. These are - supposedly - two of the top teams in the NFC, and I turned the game off early in the 3rd.
