how so? there are tons of NFL guys suing the league for concussions and other injuries and lack of pension to take care of them. i don't think it's to make them look like shit at all. it's about did the league do enough to protect the players??

in a men's street hockey league my last year, they made us buy helmets to wear to avoid lawsuits. i bought a nice one with a shield. it was NHL approved and it was still very thin on padding for my fat melon head and that's in street or foot hockey. not the lightning fast game of the NHL on skates. besides the goalies, are the pads thick enough for the players? im not a scientist to know, but it doesn't seem like it is.

Murph is on his last legs. he claims the hits and shots he took caused his downfall and his brain damage, so why not sue the league if they are at fault ? other players are doing it too, so it's not murphy on a crusade alone. if the league wasn't or isn't at fault then the suit will be dismissed. can't fault the guy for trying to get some money for the injuries he suffered.

skinny for the leafs, matty for the bruins or will for the redwings and all the other fans who go see their favorite teams...i mentioned the flyers have smaller game packages to help fans who can't invest in a half or full season due to the cost like dline. does your teams offer lower tix plans like the flyers do ?

They just lost their case to be tried as a class-action lawsuit, which means they have to indivdually sue now. Does he have the funds to go through the legal battle? It would've been a lot easier in a class-action suit. I'm just saying that the whole documentary could've just been a set-up from the beginning, a scheme planned by his lawyer to gain public sympathy.

These players have insurance and concussions should be covered. If you have a driving job and get into an accident one day and hurt your back, is the company liable?

when was this lawsuit ? you and Will said you didn't know he was suing the league, but there is or was a prior lawsuit? now that i didn't know about, which is odd because i follow the league. he isn't the only former player behind suing the league. the guy is out of options and homeless. he's taking one last shot at getting some money to help himself. it's his last chance to do it. shitty yeah, but what else can he do? the guy is on his last legs ?

I'm not against the guy trying to get money. I was just saying that if the lawyer set up that whole tv thing, it's pretty low. US law was recently changed for class-actions suits vs corps. They were just challenging that.

no idea about the lawyer skinny.

    Minnesota lawyer Michael Cashman.

They lost a july 13th hearing to proceed with a class-action.

I have no problem if Murph or players hurt by concussions receive care. I can't judge murphy for burning $15M, but that's life. The drugs didn't help his cause, just the way things go.

it's like CTE-Junior Seau had a ton of money and thriving businesses and it still couldn't stop him from killing himself bc of CTE and his advanced aged brain. Scary stuff.

Simmonds putting health ahead of contract discussions with Flyers
Forward focused on recovery from pelvis surgery, has had 'preliminary talks' on extension...

TORONTO -- Wayne Simmonds has had initial discussions with the Philadelphia Flyers regarding a contract extension, but said that his focus is on returning to full health after a season filled with injuries.

"I think they've had preliminary talks but it is what it is at this point," Simmonds said at BioSteel Camp on Wednesday. "I've got to get healthy first and foremost and show that I'm the player that I was two years ago. For being injured I don't think I had a bad season last year but it's still not to the best of my ability. When we continue to talk, we continue to talk; it is what it is right now."

Simmonds is entering the final season of a six-year, $23.82 million contract ($3.97 million average annual value) he signed Aug. 16, 2012, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He has been eligible to sign an extension since July 1.

Last season Simmonds had 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists) in 75 games despite playing all season with a torn pelvis sustained before training camp. During the season he also had a groin muscle pull, lost six teeth after being hit in the mouth by a stick, broke a bone in his ankle and tore ligaments in his thumb. The only games he missed were after the thumb injury, sustained Feb. 18.

Simmonds had surgery during the offseason to repair the pelvis injury and said he intends to be ready once training camp begins.

"I'm good," he said. "I'm working toward becoming 100 percent. That's the goal here. I want to be at my best by the time the season starts. I've already had all my surgeries, all my stuff. I'm healed up and ready to go. It's just working on getting my legs back on the ice and things of that nature."

Simmonds, who turned 30 on Sunday, scored an NHL career-high 32 goals in 2015-16 and had 31 the following season. He admitted the multitude of injuries he went through last season prevented him from playing at the level he expected of himself but feels he is ready to get back to that form.

"I just want to be healthy and contribute to the team," he said. "I'm going to come in and work hard and you're going to see what you usually see from me which was obviously not last year. I don't think I had my best year," Simmonds said. "But I'm going to get better, I'm going to be healthy and things are going to be good." (NHL.com)

he needs a big year as this is his contract year. this is his last big contract of his career, so he needs to put up huge numbers to get the big contract !! i like Simmonds but at his age and the money he will want, i think the Flyers have enough young kids on the cheap to replace him.

Red Wings have several plans... I believe even 6 home game packages at a reasonable price. You wanna spend money... they will accommodate.

I'm not sure, I really haven't looked into it. The leafs don't really have these types of promotions, the scalpers buy up all the excess anyway. Not sure I would want to committ to a package though, I like the tv and bar experience myself. So many times walking out of a game, I think to myself, I could've just sat at a bar and watched this.
