doesn't more participants mean more work for you ? checking their posts to see who they picked etc and tabulating their w-l records ?

 

Well it doesn't really make that much difference when the numbers are this low. At one point on CBS I think I had 150 members playing. We just don't have the numbers to do that here. Things are different too now that Tim has changed the way that I have to do the calculations ... some mysterious god of football on google does it now.

I too ran a Pick'em contest on CBS. When we migrated over to L4SN, there simply weren't enough members at the time to support two contests so I backed out. What I did to determine weekly leaders and the contest winner was convert the W/L record into a percentage. That way if someone missed a week (or two), they weren't behind the 8 ball with no chance of catching up.

In order to prevent someone from simply cherry picking the weeks they played, I set a minimum of 14 out of 17 weeks participation in order to be declared the winner.

 

I get that but you still have to see who each person picked don't you ? that means going on here, reading all the posts and seeing who they picked etc. that takes time.

LOL I KNOW that Lyman!! I work on them every week. Now I go to Google and use their spread sheet and somehow it all happens. It's magik I tell ya ... MAGIK!

I don't really know how to do that. Ugh. Percentages are not my thing. Yoga, Tai Chi, running, cooking, baking, writing and singing are my things but not so much math and stuff. How did you do it Lyman? I do have a little thing where I allow people to miss up to and including 3 weeks where they draw all away games. I think that helps when people miss a week or two but it also helps to keep things honest if someone decides or chooses to purposefully miss a week. If they a 4th week then they are out. Is your percentage anything like that?

Its a very simple formula in a Google spreadsheet. Drop picks in one end and percentages (sorted in order from highest to lowest) come out the other end.

 

Okay I'll stick to what I know. Tim's new way has saved me a lot of work over the last year. As long as I do it right that is ... Thanks Lyman
