I can't wait either. These young Browns shouldn't be intimidated by anybody....I think Cleveland is going to kick that Steeler ass in the opener.
I can’t wait either. Ben hasn’t touched the field yet, should be able to put up 50 on the Browns. I remember the last time that we had 50 put on us in the preseason. Oh yea it was 2008. I can’t remember what is significant about 2008.
I mean, Ben didn't touch the field last season either and opening against Cleveland hit them with a whopping 14 points.
The most damning thing to me was the fact that he was hiding it, even when the coaches could sense something was wrong and were trying to get him to tell them what the problem was. He just kept lying.
That's definitely the worst part - and the part Hue Jackson was "punishing" him for. However, his diluted sample at the Combine would be a first failure and put him into the program, meaning he's subject to way more than the once a year during training camp test for drugs. In that case, a failure should have been announced by now if he was smoking it. Pulling over someone on a suspended license at 3:00 am would probably be enough for a cop to "suggest" they smelt marijuana and had probable cause to search the car. I agree with the assessment quoted: I'm not counting on Callaway and won't be counting on Gordon if he can't return to camp and keep the distractions away for a full season. With the 16-20th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, I'm looking for the Cleveland Browns to take a wide receiver.
I like what I see so far. The offense looks much better right now then it did at any time last season. I just need to see some good defense to start thinking BIG wins.
The Browns have announced they have re-instated WR Josh Gordon this morning. He will participate in team walk throughs as part of "Phase Two" of his path to full contact participation. Curiously absent in the press release was any mention of a formal league approval by the NFL.
The league must have signed off on it in some manner because the Browns were aware that they would need to. https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/b...osh-gordon-to-return-to-practice-this-weekend
Beat me to it.... Again, I don't think there ever was a need for league approval. Most "ass"umed because the league made a statement that they would comment when it was an appropriate time...that there was something to comment on appropriately. Then, they announced he was not allowed to practice, only participate in meetings, etc...Well, that's because of his designation, which the team controlled. I'm not saying there isn't something else that needs league attention, it IS Josh Gordon after all...but I haven't seen anything to think the league was ever in charge of any Josh Gordon program or intervention or anything. It is unique that a player removes himself from training camp for self observation, I don't know if they even know how to handle it...with discipline or otherwise.
More assumptions, on both yours and Nate Ulrich's part. The REPORTER stated he they would have to sign off, but he didn't explain why, other than as part of the league substance abuse policy. Here's the stickler, he isn't currently under any penalty of the league substance abuse policy. That was handled LAST year. He personally removed himself prior to camp, not a policy mandated issue. I have yet to read ANYTHING from the league stating that he was/is currently under any type of stipulated time table. In fact, there have been statements to the contrary that he has not been reprimanded by the league for anything to the teams knowledge. I still think it had to do with Hard Knocks...they wrap up filming this week
Well . . . THAT didn't last very long. Josh is now sidelined with a hamstring issue apparently experienced in a WALK THROUGH !!!
The only assumptions I am making are based off of actual reporting. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/21/hue-jackson-josh-gordon-will-practice-very-soon/ Pretty sure that the talk of league approval was accurate and are in line with what I stated in the 'NFL News and Notes'. https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/b...h-gordon-is-cleared-to-practice-play-in-games
Oh for the love of god... Aug. 18th - NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Gordon can participate in meetings and conditioning. "He cannot practice but may watch," he said in an email to The Associated Press. "No timetable on next steps." Aug. 25th - "He's now cleared to return to all activities, including games," league spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email to The Associated Press. I don't know why you're being so stubborn over this. These are quotes from a league spokesman.
I'm not the stubborn one here...all they did was explain the status of a player based on the designation of that player by their team. Each designation the BROWNS placed Gordon had stipulations on participation. Each time THE TEAM changed that designation, the league, based on questions by the press, explained what he could do because of that designation. The only stubbornous is that of the press and trying desperately to make something out of nothing. Then, readers feeling the league is inevitably going to make some grand decision on his status. There was never anything to decide on, so it seems.
@beachbum , Isn't it possible that an NFL spokesperson, while responding to a question from the media about Josh Gordon's status, simply outlined the process a player (any player) goes though when he is being activated by a team from the NFI list? I have spent an inordinate amount of time researching this and have not yet found a single reference ANYWHERE that states league approval is required for a team to activate a player from the NFI list. No where in the two Brian McCarthey quotes you provided does he say that the league was involved in approval process. They both simply regurgitate the process steps. I will conceed that the league may require certain documentation from a team regarding a player's readiness to fully participate as a safeguard to protect the player (and the league from litigation) should the player suffer a long term injury related to the injury that placed the player on the NFI list to begin with. But, do you really think a mental health issue such as Gordon's would cause the league to prevent his return to full participation? If this were a player that didn't have Gordon's suspension history, do you think the media would even be asking questions about his return?
1. You and Irish have created the narrative that the NFL is responding to the press. The comments from the NFL spokesman were via an email to the AP - more along the lines of a press release. And even if they were inundated with emails from the press asking for clarification they are under no obligation to return emails and have never had a problem issuing a no comment. 2. If the above scenario were true and they rexeirecso many requests from the media that they felt they had to release a statement to the AP why wouldn't they simply say, "Josh Gordon's roster status is under team control and does not involve the NFL at this time." 3. Please explain "There is no timetable on his return to the field." Why would someone from the league office make that statement if the league office was not part of the decision making? Why wouldn't he simply say Josh can return to field when the Browns activate him? 4. Why did the Browns put him on the NFI in the first place? They have a 90 man roster. It was completely unnecessary.
Okay, Beach. I fucking give up. We didn't introduce the narrative that the NFL is responding to the media . . . You did. Why did McCarthey respond the way he did? I haven't a clue. Email him and ask him. As long as questions are being asked that Joe Bag-O-Donut Fan can't answer, why, when Hue Jackson was asked the very same questions from the media, didn't Jackson simply reply with "we're awaiting league approval"?
