Pathetic call against Fuller. Clearly led with the shoulder. But... how can a defender possibly avoid connecting with the helmet when an offensive player moves and he hits him with his head? Joke rule. Fucking joke. I love football, played it for many years, watched it for many more after I was done. This is bullshit and I’m really about to stop watching it.
That was horrible and the roughing the passer on Chubb was bad. It's getting worse each year. Feels like there is a penalty every 4 or 5 plays.
That was really a pathetic display of officiating. I get the NFL is fighting the concussion problem but c'mon...there was zero wrong with the hit Fuller had. Shoulder down...no helmet contact. I watched snippets of games from around the league this weekend and it's consistent across the board....just really awful calls that are going to alter games if it continues into the regular season.
Keep in mind its pre-season for the officials, too. I'm quite certain the league office reviews game tape of the officials (especially on "points of emphasis") and provides feedback to the game officials in order to refine it before the regular season starts. If what we saw so far in the pre-season continues well into the regular season, then I'm 100% in agreement with you.
This shit happens at game speed so it can be difficult to officiate these types of plays at 100% at game speed there should be some mechanism in place to correct these errors, but certainly that will make the games even longer. It seems to me they have these little pow wows after each flag thrown it would be nice if they could review the play upstairs and tell them to just wave it off.
The officials also had a few months after the rule was made to sit in a room and watch film from the last couple seasons and say....this one should have been a penalty....this one shouldn't. I get...and I agree with you...that it's preseason for officials too. And these hits do happen at game speed...but it has to improve and they don't really have a lot time left to make those improvements. It's making the greatest game on the planet a lot less entertaining.
I'm all for this. Put a guy up in the booth with TVs and replays. Replays are instantaneous now...shouldn't be that hard to do. And the referee has a direct feed to them through his earpiece....boom done. Will that make it flawless? No. But it certainly can't make it worse.
More than anything I would worry it's adding more time to the game , I agree it should be a quick decision but nothing happens quick in the NFL when it comes to replay .
Yeah, but the NFL knows you’re not going to tune out because the game is 10 minutes longer. It’s more advertising money for the league if anything.
Everyone complained replay in baseball was gonna make a long game even longer and it would be awful. It’s worked out just fine. NFL already has replay...just add one more element to it.
Simple solution, for every one of these plays that needs reviewed, replace it with one of the many tv timeouts. This will actually keep the game moving better than it does now by using the TV timeouts for something productive.
Looks like their already discussing it https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ew-heres-why-nfl-head-of-officials-isnt-sure/
Solomon Wilcox brought up a great point this morning on NFL radio. There really was no need to implement a new helmet rule. There is an old rule that’s been around for ever that the NFL has simply ignored causing a lot of the mess we are dealing with today. Anybody remember spearing? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spearing_(gridiron_football) The NFL could have put their foot down with the helmet first shots a long time ago if they had simply enforced the rule already on the books.
I agree we th the premise of extending reviews to include this helmet rule nonsense in one condition. They replace Al Riveron. Nothing will get better if he is the eye in the sky making the decisions.
