She'd been in tough shape for awhile now...that she lasted as long as she did at her age with pancreatic cancer is just a further testament to her awesomeness. RIP to arguably the finest singer this country has ever produced.

    RIP Aretha

Also 41st death Anniversary of Elvis.

Aretha was great. RIP. But she isn’t the greatest (American) singer ever (imo). It’s another GOAT discussion/debate, I know, but there are so many variables and varied tastes to factor as well.

^^good points halo. as tough as the greatest athlete debate is for sports, the greatest singer is even tougher.

the missing U of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts has been found dead. she was 20 yrs old. her disappearance was national news and had hundreds of volunteers trying to find her. a $400,000 reward that was going to any tip to find her is now for any info leading to the capture of her murderer !

sad. my 17 yr niece just enrolled at U of Pitt. can't imagine something like this happening to her.

Your niece is attending college in the greatest city in the world. I can tell by her choice of college that she is and will be brilliant.

i told her not to go. haha. she is pretty smart though. her brother got a 4.0 as a freshman at PSU and transferred to Notre Dame. He's the smart one in the family.

i did find my niece a vintage 1970/80's Pitt blanket in the old colors for her dorm bed and a vintage 1980's Pitt sign too.

i told her to not come home a Penguins fan ! hahaha. she's not big on hockey anyways.

Just look for the hypocycloids in her eyes when you see her the next time... or ask her about the tattoo of Sid (or any other 8-7 reference) on her bum.

im not asking my 17 yr old niece about her bum. im worried about her. she wanted to be put in a particular dorm and she got put in the athletes dorm. she's a pretty tiny girl who couldn't fend off the advances of a fly let alone some college boy. she's not protected in her safe little private Catholic School now. she's at a school with 40,000 other kids. she hasn't been exposed to the party scene, so college is going to be an eye opening experience for her - good and bad. she's not her brother, who transferred to Notre Dame and is very smart. he has a good head on his shoulders. my niece is smart but has no streets smart to walk away from a bad situation. i worry.

Ed King, who co-wrote "sweet home alabama" for lynyrd skynyrd and was also the guitarist has died.

This was an answer to canadian neil youngs song, "southern man", which depicted the south as racist and backward.
