In that clip, weren't the recommendations coming from the training staff? As the guy at the helm, he should take into account the info provided by all of his subordinates (which he said he did) and ultimately make his decision. He may have two different groups with different beliefs, they should each make their case then move on. Personally I would think in this case that trainers outweigh coaches in terms of conditioning, but, it is a good point to have them dress and limit participation. As I stated earlier, its really 2 sides of the same coin, and just a matter of how you're managing the players psyche.
Yeah, except that picture wasn't taken when the comment was made. I watched the episode again last night and this "look" happened AFTER he Haley made the positive comments about the progress that was being made. He also looked behind Williams, not at him. Just pointing out facts..This Tweet certainly didn't tell a story.
Stop it, Irish. It's a tweet from a random, useless source. It means the world to some people. ... (PS. Props on doing the research, and not just taking a random, useless tweet at face value. That takes time. Well done)
-Hey you guys ... listen, I'm throwing my 2 cents in here and if I offend please, all apologies... here's an article from the Steelers Depot... https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.c...o-understand-how-the-cleveland-browns-operate I never watch these shows because I always hated day time soap operas too. But this is just too much. IMO, Jackson is a fool. It feels like he's all good with letting the inmates run the jail and what that team needs is LEADERSHIP ! If he truly is going to just ignore his coaches (some ex head coaches with far better records) then why have them there at all? Oh yeah, to coach, but aren't their opinions a part of that process? They need to be on the field as much as possible as they can be to orient themselves to the team's O & D schemes as early in the 2018-19 process. How many of your team's members have not played together yet ... at all... as in ever ? I truly do apologize for the outsider opinion, but I've seen my second favorite team (first favorite to hate) find every reason in the book to fail over the last 20 years. IMO your team has a real chance at getting on track this year and will need to continue that process for the next decade to begin to balance the win / loss books... how can it be that this years excuse is the HC ? ... 1-31 and he's not willing to listen to Haley's voice, in fact pointedly blows his comments off ... sorry for the rant... almost deleted it then thought, no,you guys should know others are watching too... Crex is correct, "build it right" and that starts with team work from all sides, including the staff, most of all, because it all slides down hill from there... best of luck this year and I know you guys know I mean that.
He did take in the opinions of his coaches, AND the opinions of the training staff. I said it in another post, I would take the training staff recommendation over a coordinator. It is all mostly psyche handling. It looks like Hue is taking a step back and playing the CEO role of a HC. He can be a friendly guy and the Coordinators and position coaches are the enforcers. I'm a manager where I work and have layers of people beneath me, I also have layers above me. Our VP offices here and plays nice to everyone, while his subordinates are "the enforcers". We can debate all day whether a committed day off is better than an "unknown" day off where the player dresses but doesn't participate, but what I took away from the show was (as I stated) these were training staff recommended days off.
MOS Good to hear from you . your opinions are always welcome around here . I hope all is well with you & yours .
Hey bluez, it's great hearing your voice again too .. and thanks... all is well, still ret. up to 5 grandkids now... in fact 2 are sleep overs tonight down stairs on blow up bed with their auntie watching last episode of Captain Underpants ... before lights out. Look forward to the 2018 season ... we'll talk... I'm sure
No apologies necessary MOS. Good to hear from you. I couldn't agree more with this post. I mean, I understand it's been a very tough year for Hue, but who the heck does he think he is? When I saw him cut Haley off in the coaches meeting and jump up on his high horse like he's the second coming of Vince Lombardi, it really made me scratch my head. That's ridiculous. Was he putting on a show for the camera's or what? He's 1-31 over the last two years and he's struttin around in front of his assistants (and the Hard Knocks camera's) like he's got a trophy case full of hardware or something? smh... It's strange. I don't even know how Jackson held on to his job in the first place, but he of ALL coaches should probably be listening and heeding the advice of his staff.
HE DID! I don't know how many times it's already been said, but from what we can tell, his conditioning staff gave the advice and directive on the players sitting out. Meanwhile, he listened to the coach that suggested they still dress, as a compromise. If he had listened to Haley, and made those players practice as normal, he wouldn't be listening to his conditioning staff. He had to pick a direction, and he picked this one. We'll see whether he's right or wrong, but one thing is for sure, he's not ignoring the advice of his staff.
Well he ignored Todd Haley, his very widely respected OC in that exchange. Cut him off in mid sentence, and started rambling about how he used to be in that seat.
unrelated to any ongoing conversation, but living in Texas I try to buy as much of my teams gear whenever I see it. I don't like buying shirts/hats online because I am funny about fit and texture. That being said, Friday evening I was in an overstock store (think TJ Max with less class lol), trying to get some school clothes shopping in for my 3 teens and pre-teen, and I take a customary browse through the men's department and there staring me in the face is just 1 Cleveland Browns Color Rush Jersey of Joe Haden. It is the Vapor Untouchable Limited Edition, originally $150, now at the team shop for half price, but I got it for $25! I really don't care if it is Joe, I can just say its a throwback It's a shame I don't know any Vikings fans. There was a Teddy Bridgewater Jersey, it was top of the line, original $250, selling for $50.
First things first: "widely respected OC" ? With the crazy amount of offensive talent on the Steeler's roster, virtually ANYBODY would be a successful OC there. Even Stopper. Secondly: with the media "experts" still beating the disfunction in Cleveland drum and cameras rolling, I would have cut him off at the knees myself. Haley should have known better than to get in Hue's grill over this given the rap on Cleveland over the years. IMHO, He would have been better served making his point later on with Hue in private. And, for all we know, maybe he did. I think he (Haley) realized he fucked up as soon as he said it and then tried to smooth it over with his next comments about progress being made.
Well I know you're always fighting for Hue on these threads, but honestly Lym, if you are gonna start out by arguing the merits of whether or not Todd Haley is a well respected OC, then I don't even want to engage... I don't think highly of Hue Jackson as a football coach....Regardless of 1-31, it's his in game decision making that I've always hated. I've taken the roster into consideration, and I still think very little of Hue the football coach. The pied piper of football coaches.
Hue is hue Good bad or indifferent He is the guy Haslsm is paying to be the head coach. Do I believe in him as a fan... Not so much Unfortunately he is the coach of my favorite team So as a fan I'll accept it for what it is worth In all honesty I wish be bellicheck was still the HC Though I am willing to see how this season shakes out. I do believe that good things are on the horizon. It's time to win and this roster is in shape let's see how it goes before crucifing hue. Dorsey has done well setting things up. Let's see what the coach can do
I thought I addressed that. I don't understand what your rebuttal is. Are you saying you'd rather he listened to his OC than conditioning staff? ... 'cause I covered that.
