Devontae Booker at No. 1 running back on Broncos first depth chart...

The Broncos got rid of their leading rusher from last season when they released C.J. Anderson this offseason and the word this spring was that rookie Royce Freeman was pushing Devontae Booker for the No. 1 job in this year’s backfield.

Whatever push Freeman has made thus far has not been enough to lift him ahead of Booker. The Broncos released their first depth chart of the year and it features Booker in the top slot. Freeman is No. 2 with De'Angelo Henderson, Dave Williams and Phillip Lindsay making up the rest of the group.

Booker, a fourth-round pick in 2016, ran 79 times for 299 yards and a touchdown last year while also catching 30 passes for 275 yards. Freeman was a third-round pick in April after setting several career records during his time at Oregon.

The competition will continue for the rest of the summer and it seems likely that, regardless of pecking order, both Booker and Freeman will be seeing a good amount of playing time come the fall. (PFT)

 

like I asked Lyman - show me proof that he was. not the Sharpie out of the sock or the Dallas star incident. How was he bad to his fellow teammates when he took a blow to the head to win a playoff game in SF and played on a broken leg Doctors told him to NOT DO or face severe consequences?? Everyone says he was so bad. Was he though? Asshole? yep. jerkoff? yep. diva? yep. bad to teammates? im not seeing it.

i posted 3 links stating differently from real teammates. Seems like fans are assuming the worst about TO without really knowing him as a teammate.

 

In 2005, after a game against the Dallas Cowboys on October 9 in which the Eagles lost, Owens was seen by reporters wearing a throwback jersey of former Cowboys player Michael Irvin on the team plane.[26][27] On November 2, Owens was involved in an argument in the training room with team ambassador Hugh Douglas, which led to a fistfight between the two.[28][29] The argument was reportedly started after Douglas said there were players on the team who were faking injuries.[30]

During an ESPN interview the next day, Owens made several comments that Eagles fans perceived as verbal jabs at McNabb and the team.[31] In this interview, when asked whether he agreed with a comment made by analyst Michael Irvin saying that the Eagles would be undefeated if Brett Favre was on the team, Owens replied, "That's a good assessment. I would agree with that." Owens went on to state that if Favre were the Eagles quarterback, "I just feel like we'd be in a better situation." Owens stated on his radio show that his remarks were taken out of context, noting that he had just stated two questions prior that the Eagles' record would also be better had McNabb not been injured. [32] [33] [31] While he did not comment on Owens' slight at the time, McNabb later stated in an interview that "It was definitely a slap in the face to me."[34]

Two days after the interview aired, the Eagles suspended Owens indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the team."[35] According to Owens' agent Drew Rosenhaus, head coach Andy Reid demanded that Owens make a public apology to McNabb. An apology was drafted by Rosenhaus, but Owens balked at reading a specific apology to McNabb, and crossed that part of the statement out.[31] The apology he read on TV did not address McNabb directly.[36] The following day, Reid announced that Owens' suspension would be increased to four games and that he would be deactivated for the remainder of the season.[36][37]

On November 8, Owens and Rosenhaus held a news conference at Owens' residence, where he apologized to the fans, the team, and McNabb specifically, and also made an appeal for reinstatement to the team.[38] The NFL Players Association filed a grievance against the Eagles, claiming violation of the sport's collective bargaining agreement, but Owens' suspension and deactivation were upheld by an arbitrator.[39]

and that's after the SB ^^^ where it all started between TO and McNabb, which i already spoke of. Hugh Douglas was mentioned above as well. Douglas and Trotter were the golden boys of the locker room back then and ruled the clubhouse with their rules. To call teammates out for faking injuries is a serious claim. It doesn't say TO was or wasn't faking. Just that he was in a fight. They didn't like outsiders coming into the locker room causing trouble. that's how it was back then. TO to them was trouble. calling out McNabb to them was trouble. Douglas and Trotter never liked TO period. I was thrilled when both were gone from the EAGLES. Those 2 were like a bunch of rats going to Andy Reid every time someone went against them.

Anyone else got a story that doesn't involve McNabb or Douglas? Any SF 49ers out there? Any other team he played for? the TO-Mcnabb war/saga started because of the SB. Anything involving those 2 were just going back and forth to out do and out tarnish each other in the public view. that's 1 incident that was between them.

 

I feel like the part you’re missing, that lyman and Beach are highlighting, is that you’re seeing his desire to win and get positive attention as proof of being a good teammate. He was A COMPETITOR! No question.
But he was also a headcase. And he’s such a strong (and emotional) personality that while I’m sure there were 4-8 guys on each team that loved playing with him, I’m just as sure there were 2-8 who hated listening to him during practices and warmups.

I read a book about a specific season of Philly’s he was there. And I assure you, his suspension from Andy Reid had much less to do with McNabb and way more to do with Reid trying to maintain authority as the head coach. He was late for meetings, warned both verbally and in writing, and had outbursts with coaches that pushed Reid to the breaking point. Reid felt forced to do it (by T.O. I mean).

He is arguably the 2nd best WR of all time.
But doesn’t even crack the top 150 for best teammate by any stretch.

 

I suspect, Cat, that you think calling your quarterback a homosexual is the mark of a good team-mate? Jeff Garcia probably won't agree with you.

 

Any player that tries to make himself bigger than the team, and TO did that a lot, isn't a good teammate.

Amazing player, unmatched work ethic, proven results.....just not a good teammate.

Joey Bosa left practice with foot injury...



The Chargers have had to deal with a couple of big injuries already this year and another key player gave them at least a scare at Tuesday’s practice.

According to multiple reports, defensive end Joey Bosa left the session early after hurting his left foot. He was able to walk off the field under his own power and will undergo further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury.

Bosa played every game last season and finished the year with 70 tackles, 12.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. He missed the first four games of his rookie year due to a hamstring injury he picked up after finally signing his contract in late August.

The Chargers have already lost tight end Hunter Henry and cornerback Jason Verrett for the season. (PFT)

 

Truth - great post. being in philly at the TO time was fun. it was a circus of what would he do next? i mean the guy did sit-ups in his driveway. the Philly Sports News (Comcast) and newspapers had a daily running of what TO was doing i.e. late for practice, meetings, and everything else he did. I know all about it. Reid was losing the team and that's another reason for his puppets Douglas and Trotter to get back the locker room.

Here's my thing - i agree with everything in your post. I think a few guys on every sports team is not well liked by others. Who else likes Barry Bonds? Tie Domi ? Steve Avery? Bryce Harper and Jonathen Papelbon? Curt Schilling was a crumb teammate and hated Mitch Williams potentially losing games for the 93 Phils, so much so he had a towel over his face to not watch him pitch. It's not just TO. Hell, I hated a kid on my Intramural College Hockey team and he lived 4 doors down from me in our Dorm Room. It happens when personalities and egos clash.

Athletes - pro and college can be and have been jerks in the past. Going back 100+ yrs. Ty Cobb fought with teammates and fans. The 1919 Black Sox hated 2b and future HOF'er Eddie Collins because he was a goodie goodie and not "one of the boys." Same for catcher and HOF'er Ray Schalk. It happens. Not every sports team is one big happy family.

TO sadly rose above the "team" concept and did things for himself and himself alone and that in a team game is very wrong. However this whole point was why did he have to wait 3 yrs of HOF Induction. So his faults were enough reasons why to keep him out of the HOF for 3 yrs? That I don't agree with. The voters just hated him. They ignored his stats and had it out for TO. Michael Irving again STABBED A TEAMMATE IN THE NECK WITH SCISSORS OVER THE BARBER CHAIR. That's assault with a deadly weapon. the wound was inches away from his corroded artery. How does he get a pass?

Antonio Callaway cited for marijuana possession...

Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Antonio Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license by Strongsville (Ohio) Police on Sunday morning.

According to the incident report, Callaway was pulled over Sunday at 2:59 a.m. for "failing to yield for oncoming traffic." It was at that time the officer discovered that Callaway's license was suspended and there was "a small amount of suspected marijuana" underneath the driver's seat.

Callaway is scheduled to appear in Strongsville Mayor's Court on Thursday, per the report.

The Browns traded up to select Callaway in the fourth round of the 2018 draft dispite a number of off-the-field issues during his time as a prospect at Florida.

Callaway tested positive for a diluted drug-test sample at the NFL Scouting Combine. His past also includes a sexual assault allegation (of which he was eventually cleared), a misdemeanor marijuana citation and involvement in a credit-card scam that resulted in a pair of third-degree felony charges. lol... Just saw it and cant believe the luck the Browns have. The Browns lose him to a League suspension, they will really be scrambling at the WR position.

It makes the conversation around trading Corey Coleman a lot more interesting.

 

Yeah, but they did this to themselves. Not only did they have a first-row seat to the Gordon show, but Callaway's incidents were consistent all throughout the years and months leading up to the draft. This guy hadn't shown any indication that he'd turn things around in the NFL, and as a franchise, you know that the hope you're riding on is slim. If you were a betting man, you'd bet on him getting suspended / in legal trouble during his first year, and you'd hope you'd get good enough odds to even make any money.

The Browns did a great job of bringing in Landry. However, they created a WR room wherein one guy is trying to get back to the NFL, another guy is predictably looking at suspension / early career exit, and a former first round pick is released. Luck's got nothing to do with it - they walked into this one.

 

I was trying to figure out how to word this story without offending Brown's fans.

 

When exactly was he traded? When exactly did the team find out about Callaway's infractions? Would put that trade into better perspective.

Well I was a little off on timing. My guess is 4 Games possibly reduced to 2.

IMHO should probably have contract voided.
